The good news is that it will be easier for those of us with these lower numbers to double the number of books read!"

Looks like I'm at 63 out of 205 now. Almost triple the number I'd read from 2 years ago!

Reading the two currently-reading books now, so I should be at 65/207 after that = 31.4%. Can I reach 33%???

Repeat after me: "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can".

It's very addictive. :)

Richard Buro (rwburo1outlookcom) | 121 comments My current count is 78. at message 250 on Page 5 of this discussion, I have detailed information on all 78, when I read them, and review links for those read in the last 2 years or so. I am down 1 SF and 3 FAN books so far this year, and I finished 3 so far this one, one of them on the older TBR I am maintaining for myself.

message 360: by Emma (new)

Emma 49 and about 20 on my tbr list!

message 361: by Tessa (new)

Tessa in Mid-Michigan (asata) Would one of the librarians add Ted Chiang's Stories of Your Life to the bookshelf? It really should be on there...or maybe add it to one of the monthly reads, if that is what needs to happen.

The books on the bookshelf are the ones chosen for our monthly reads. They're chosen via nominations and then polls.

I thought the same think when I joined the group. First I was thinking I have read all the good ones, what kind of list do these people have? Then as I started reading the highest rated ones (I really miss the listopia list) I started thinking what have I been doing to miss so many great books?

I started the group having read about 60 and now I am up to 171. I think 90% is my final and achievable goal. That allows me to skip 1-2 a year once I catch up. The books for the most part have been fantastic.

message 367: by Tessa (new)

Tessa in Mid-Michigan (asata) 87

message 368: by Sterling (new)

Sterling (sterlingf) | 79 comments I am new to the group I only have 20. That isn't very good. I have already read 41 books this year but I have only read 20 on this list. Man I have way to many books to read. Oh well at least I love to read.

Wow, and good job. You are making some of us look like slackers.

message 376: by Coralie (new)

Coralie | 106 comments I also have just over 150 and, after 40 plus years of reading science fiction, I don't have to put much effort in adding to the number. I automatically added two this month as I had read both books and I have already read one of next month's - a nice, easy way to add to my tally (but I prefer to have something new to read with you all).

message 377: by Rob (new)

Rob (robzak) | 876 comments Hmm. I'm up to 74, which is pretty impressive considering I don't really have time to read along.

I love when books I've read already are picked so I can jump in on the discussion.

message 378: by Simon (last edited Apr 27, 2016 07:25AM) (new)

Simon Cambridge (simonjc) | 79 comments There are a number here that are on my TBR list. I've only done 35 as yet, but I imagine I won't be adding too many more for the moment as the top of my list is pretty empty of sci-fi and fantasy. (But since I have already read 'Starship Troopers', I might just squeeze it in for the coming month.)

message 379: by Richard (new)

Richard (thinkingbluecountingtwo) | 447 comments Quick update as I have been trying to read more from the club's bookcase. Now upto 97, must push for 100.

message 380: by Roberta (new)

Roberta (tawnyreader) | 89 comments I've read 36 so far, most without trying to pick a book from the list. I saw a few other books that I've read, but it's been so long, or my memory of them is so fuzzy, that I didn't count them.

Natacha 4E | 0 comments I've just joined and I'm at 12 books. There are some books on the list that I would like to read, and some that I dont' want to read. And a lot that I have never heard of.

message 388: by Richard (new)

Richard Buro (rwburo1outlookcom) | 121 comments Welcome, Sifra. I have been a member since late 2013, and I have read less than half of the list. You don't have to read all of the books. In your case, you found 22 you have already read. That's fantastic. The books are generally available in bookstores across the United States as well as electronic vendors like Amazon. We are always glad to have new members join. If you find a book that you want to read, there are several ways to do that. Check out Sarah Anne or Michael, our moderators, who can give you more group information if you would like to know. Or you can just send me a note, and I will do the foot work for you.

message 389: by Michael (new)

Michael | 1303 comments Actually, I'm not a moderator, I'm just very opinionated. :p

Kim and Sarah Anne are the moderators, but usually there are a lot of people willing to answer questions around here if you ask.

message 392: by Alia (new)

Alia Thirteen of the "read" list.

I feel inadequate.

message 393: by Lee (new)

Lee I've read about 20 on the 'read' list.

message 394: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I think I started the group with 11 and I'm up to 134. There's some great stuff on there that I never would have found on my own.

message 395: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (darthval) | 781 comments When I started the group I had only read 18. I am now u to 115.

message 396: by Michael (new)

Michael | 1303 comments Okay, you all convinced me to look at my stats. I joined 11/1/2012. Started with 18, read 47 since then (12 per year), for a total of 65.

Counting these can be odd. For example, I had already read Hitchhiker's Guide when I joined, but it wasn't on the bookshelf yet.

message 397: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments With Michael's comment I counted mine a bit differently. Since joining I have read 108 of the shelf books with 179 total and I am sure I only started out with 60 or so originally. That makes 10-ish books that I had already read but were voted on the shelf after the fact.

message 398: by Trike (last edited Jul 12, 2016 11:01AM) (new)

Trike Trike wrote: "45/133 with Hyperion being one I abandoned. By the side of the road. After punching it in the nuts."

3 years and 3 months later I'm up to 76/213. Some I've read with the club, some I'd previously read and the club added them.

2013 percentage: 33%
2016 percentage: 35%

I'm gaining! Also currently reading 2 club picks, Nexus and Red Rising, so that will increase the percentage, too.

Edit addendum: I also added 12 to this year's challenge to read club books, with 2 down and 2 currently, so if I get anywhere near that goal it will boost my percentage.

message 399: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I'm trying to make 150 by the end of the year. It does help that things get voted in that I've already read. I've read The Passage, and given the way the polls are headed... actually, I've read The Children of Men, too, so whichever wins the polls gives me a freebie.

I joined 6/30/14. I'm such a newbie.

message 400: by Kim (new)

Kim | 1499 comments I count previously read books when looking at how many on the group shelf, I just don't count them towards the challenge unless I happened to read them within the same year.
