Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Quite, lol.

Mhmm, and even when I was in college I would always walk past the free Yoga classes cause I had to head to class and been in there for the entire time the Yoga class was going on. So never had much of a chance with that either. That's why I'm quite frankly not mad at those guy's shirts that say 'Round is a shape', it so is! Just have to make my own that says 'Pears are shapes too!' LOL, as that is totally my body type.

No kidding. Even getting my legs up(or trying to rather) like they were doing in the video on that link was definitely working the heart rate for sure. Heck I was feeling the burn before the instructor chick was even saying can you feel it, haha.

LOL, I love that chick then for sure! I swear I never realized how Uncoordinated I am til trying out that 10 min routine. Which I kind of figured I would be anyway as I'll be the first to say I'm a tad rhythmically challenged on some things. But yea, thank goodness I kept my humor about me and was doing this at home FIRST before considering trying out any workout classes. I think I'll prep on the Yoga stuff too before trying that class as well.

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) | 534 comments I like the elliptical myself because it gets your cardio up and works your thighs out too. If you have access to one that has the moveable arms, that's even better. But, warning Will Robinson! It takes a while to build up...try to start with 10 min and work up to at least 20 (dr said 45 min is optimum). I think I was told to begin weight machines that do the large muscles (thighs, quads, back) first then progress to small muscles (biceps, forearms). I think the stretching thing is confusing because you hear both 1st and last...a bit of each, maybe? It is really more of a warmup and cooldown. Good luck!!!

message 3153: by Cindi (new)

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) | 534 comments And make the 10 min. slowwww til you can build up, speed up! But at least its a repetitive motion, not a routine!

message 3154: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Ya know, I think I'll need to get a mini stop watch. So when it comes down to doing some of this stuff I'm going to see if I can time myself and see how long I can go before needing to rest. That definitely sounds like a great plan on working on the larger muscles. Cause I noticed when I did try two of the machines for my legs they weren't so bad. Mind you I couldn't lift them that much but at least the legs felt better than my arm pits did trying the upper body stuff. Ahh okay. I will keep that in mind on doing a bit of stretching before and after. Don't think it could hurt to do either really that way.

Any ideas on a morning snack I could get in before the work out? I'm thinking cereal bars or maybe some of those liquid meal replacements or something. Tricky as I'm not much of a breakfast person, but popz says it helps fuel the muscles before going.

Oh you best believe a lot of this will be SLOW for me. If you have read some of my other posts, doing a 10 min at home cardio workout whips my butt alone for the moment. So I'm definitely not rushing things in the least!

Yea, popz has a routine like that. Just for him he likes to hop on the stationary bike and then do the weights. But for me I tend to get a little bored with most things at times and would find something a little different. But for sure any classes I'll be starting with is self defense. Get that under my belt.

I always thought home cardio routines (from a vid) were harder than a treadmill or elliptical...I did used to do a step routine (which I really loved) and a Cher tape (which was HARD).

You gotta find something to do while on the bike or whatever. I love to watch my San Antonio Spurs basketball so I would do my Nordic Track while watching and boy! would I get carried away! Then I'd take a break during commercials. I could go all night long that way!

message 3164: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I repeat, refer to my comments about that at home 10 min routine. To say they aren't going to start out fast it quickly goes there in no time. And before my feet even get properly placed and hands in the right directions with things they were on to something else. Thank goodness I kept my humor throughout and did not PULL something lol.

They have TV's on the bikes and I found my mom's MP3 player with some songs on there that we both liked. So that could help me get in the zone. Be good too for when I do the weight stuff eventually. But I'll have to figure out something to watch so early in the morning as popz likes to go for an hour or so before even 9 o'clock! I'm usually not very socialable that early in the first place. So should prove to be interesting.

What book have you read the most?

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I read Bride and Vane's Book three times and Valerius and Tabitha's twice if not three times as well.

message 3169: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Have you heard of Laura Harner plagiarising books. She apparently has withdrawn a few of her books from retailers. I really liked some of her books. Should I change my rating because she hasn't written those books but stole them from other people??

message 3170: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Huh. I've heard of Laura Harner--just finished a four-book series, as a matter of fact, and it wasn't too bad. But in all honesty, I hadn't heard anything about plagiarism until you brought it up, Manuela. And then I googled it ... and wow. I'm a little speechless.

Not sure what to do there, Manuela. I haven't found a total list of books that she might have plagiarized, aside from Come Home, Texas and her Deuce Coop series. Although if it were me personally, and I had read those particular books, I'd be tempted to change my rating to the lowest possible. But that would be just me, and on those books only. >.>

Hmmm ... quite a few books that I've read several times over. XD The ones that stand out for me, though, are Nora Roberts' Sign of Seven series (as well as her MacGregor Brides and MacGregor Grooms books), Lisa Kleypas' Smooth Talking Stranger, and of course, our own lovely AG's Styxx. =)

@charlotee - same here. read so many books a long time ago over and over. hm itd prob either be a nora roberts book, jennifer crusie or catherine anderson. dang O_O points to u for rereading styxx since its a HUGEEE book XD!

I changed it to one star but left the original review on that I actually loved the book. A lot have downgraded the book to one star and left their original review, some just stated that plagiarism is wrong ~which it is~ but I wonder how many actually read it and how many just jump on the bandwagon of stopping a thief from having a career in writing.

message 3179: by Cindi (new)

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) | 534 comments Laura Harner has been accused of plagiarism (and has withdrawn about 10 titles from Amazon) and one of the books she's mentioned as stealing from is "Vane's book by Sherrilynn Kenyon". Like I said, I find this VERY upsetting and hope she gets hers...Karma is a bitch, Laura!

message 3180: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Hot damn that is crazy. And no doubt about it coming back around to her for sure. I went back through and read some of the other comments too. Oh man, that is just beyond rude and ridic.

message 3181: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 49 comments OMG. In all honesty though it shows how wonderful Kenyon is that others would want to copy her work. It also shows how foolish they are to think that they could get away with stealing. Get your own material and imagination, if you can't then go for a different, more legit dream.

Just out of curiosity, Cindi, where did you find that Harner had also plagiarized SK's work? The only reason I'm asking is because I have been hunting for a complete list of the works by Harner that were pulled. And I've been looking for evidence that the books by her that I've read (Highland Destiny series), might be lifted from someone else.

So far, the only authors I've seen that have been victimized are Becky McGraw and Opal Carew, and I know that McGraw is taking legal action (to which I say "You GO, Girl!" :D).

For right now, I'm holding off on posting any sort of review or rating for the books I've read by Harner, until we find out more information.

message 3183: by Cindi (new)

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) | 534 comments Charlotte, I think it was on the Trout Nation blog but I will have to go back and check to be sure. And I think it was just a portion, not a whole book as other authors had lifted. I haven't read any of her books but I did download Highland Destiny (for free). My dilemma is: do I delete it or read it? Its one based on Ms. McGraw's title, I heard.

Alice said it well: find a different dream!

message 3184: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I checked her books as well, I had just finished continental divide when I heard the news. But she wrote that together with another writer who does not talk friendly about her. Basically they came to a verbal blow about the first book in the series so Harner bought the character the other writer had created and wrote three more books. I don't know if I want to read them now because I am afraid she may have taken them from another series (there are rumors about it). I haven't heard about any books from SK.
And that particular book she stole from that McGraw lady I kept my review but noted that the one star rating was because of the plagiarism. Someone told me to rate her book, but I haven't read it yet (even if it is pretty much the same as Harner's book).

message 3185: by Cindi (new)

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) | 534 comments I withdrew it from my TBR pile and counted it as 1 star.

Now I can't find where I heard about the SK copy...it was somewhere here then, I bet, or I wouldn't have gone to Trout Nation.

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments As it's that time of the year again for not only the turkey holidays but for the Christmas ones as well. I was wondering what everyone's plans will be for this year? Doing the traditional gift giving and cookie leaving for Santa Or going away on vacation? Oh and can't forget to ask if any one is reading any stories taking place around Christmas too.

Feel free to leave holiday greetings too if you wish. :)

message 3187: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I'll kick things off and say Happy Holidays for everyone. Then have to say for myself and my fam we used to travel to Cleveland and visit my aunt, cousins, and grandmothers up that way. But over the last several years have lost both of my grandmothers and even just a few months ago lost my mother as well. So we will be doing dinner out at a restaurant this year.

I have to admit that it is going to feel hella strange doing that. But, with changes like that comes new opportunities. And for once we are staying home/more locally. And as it is the tradition in my fam to usually get gifts for the younger family members. And with my cousin and his wife raising her two year old niece, looks like she'll likely be the newest recipient of some gift giving this year.

As for doing any holiday reading this year? I do have some holiday freebies, but not touching em til other challenges come up. As there is stuff I still want to finish reading for this year. That isn't holiday related. But I for sure have gotten in more than my fair share of holiday Egg Nog. ;)

message 3188: by BookPusher D (new)

BookPusher D (bookpusherd) | 130 comments So sorry for your loss DHfan :(
Holidays are always difficult when traditions change because of loss.

We are actually doing something different this yr, something long time coming, since my son's dad passed 13yrs ago. We are breaking with tradition and spending Christmas with my son's father's family. It is weird to be going to a diff state to celebrate Christmas. My entire fam lives in my city except for one sibling. It will be nice not running around from one house to another Christmas Eve and Day. I have no clue how they celebrate. We will be traveling on the Eve. We usually bake a birthday cake for Christ and my grandpa (who passed the yr I was born). My fam also usually plays this terribly funny game of White Elephant, where we give and regift the most rediculous prank gifts possible...this will be missed. But to stay connected all the women in my fam are joining me in my usual December classic book read. We decided to read Gone With The Wind :)

message 3189: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Holiday greetings to everyone! =)

And so sorry for your losses, ladies. I know that this time of year can be hard for some people due to the loss of loved ones. But good to hear that new traditions are being created. =)

(Gotta say, though, I like the sound of the White Elephant tradition you described, BookPusher. Sounds like a hilarious way to enjoy Christmas. XD And hats off to you for your tradition of a classic December book read. =D)

For me, Christmas is when we visit others, since I got (un)lucky enough to be drafted into hosting Thanksgiving dinner every year. XD So generally, the kids and hubby and I open our gifts on Christmas Eve, and then spend Christmas day with the hubby's fam. We also sometimes spend Christmas Eve driving around and looking at Christmas lights. =)

message 3190: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Thanks you guys. We are definitely making it one day at a time. I second that on the White Elephant gift giving game/idea there BookPusher. That totally sounds hilarious and like a good time.

I also remember when we used to go around and see the Christmas lights when I was younger. Loved it when there was some snow on the ground and as there is this one house on the way to the local Arby's, that every year whips out this like handcrafted Santa Sleigh and reindeer with the presents in the back. It is just soooo awesome.

That's really awesome too that you are trying out something new this year as well in visiting the other side of the family. And maybe can also introduce them to your reading tradition as well. That would be awesome if you could get both sides of the family into it as well. :)

message 3191: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments *hugs* to Dh. That first Christmas without someone loved is so tough.

Next week is my birthday, and I'll get lunch at work and I'm really hoping for another giant Nook gift card. My family birthday meal and cake I'm putting off to the next week so my dad can enjoy it with us.

We're doing things a lot simpler this year. My one brother who's married and has a kid refuses to come. That's a whole situation that's ongoing, not fun, and mostly of his own making.

Usually decorations are all through the house and it takes a couple of days to do it all. We're scaling back this year, and I'm looking forward to it. I'm doing the dining room as soon as I finish typing this. Tomorrow we're going to buy our trees and then I'll decorate them Sunday after church.

When I Was growing up we'd always go visit my grandparents, but we were always home on Christmas morning. I only have one set of grandparents left now, and my dad's work schedule makes it almost impossible for us to go see them as a family. May see if my sister wants to go up there for a day.

We have cinnamon rolls for breakfast on Christmas morning and gumbo for supper. That evening we go to our Christmas service at church then watch the Doctor Who Christmas special when we get home.

I love driving around looking at lights, but there's no good place around here to do it.

My own personal book tradition is that I read The Books of the Raksura by Martha Wells. I started doing it on accident, but it really enjoy it now. It's such a rich, incredible world and I never get tired of visiting it. There's only three books in the series right now, so it's easy to do.

message 3192: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Hello and Merry Christmas to all of you.

First I'd like to say to all of you sorry for your loss. My Dad passed away in 1999 and the first Christmas was really weird and strange. We kept to the traditions but it was different as a vital part was missing. It will get better with the years but there will always be that moment when you remember those no longer with you.

Since I was a small child I cannot remember that we ever visited someone. Christmas for me is staying at home with the family. (I think we never visited the others because they were living in small places and my parents place was big enough to cater for all). When we moved from East to West Germany we kept to the tradition of celebrating our family Christmas on Christmas Eve. We have been having the same food every year (Potatoes, Sauerkraut and Bratwurst) and after dinner we would pass the presents around, having fun watching Christmas movies and have lively discussions about anything and nothing.

Now that I am living in Australia with hubby and Marvin the cat (Fluser passed away in 2012) I try to keep up the tradition. Christmas Eve morning I will put up the tree and decorate it, then I will cook our Christmas dinner (usually one of the two times a year I am cooking LOL) and we will have our presents and watch TV or DVDs.

In 2013 hubby and I went back to Germany to celebrate with my family and it was bitter sweet. I have so many fond memories and my mom was so happy to have all her three children back home together at the same time.

In the weeks before Christmas we might go back up to Lobethal, a small town in the hills of Adelaide and look at their lights. http://www.lightsoflobethal.com.au/

Otherwise it will be a quiet celebration and a deserved rest from work for hubby and I. I will read a lot I think.

message 3195: by Cindi (new)

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) | 534 comments I also lost someone (my dad) a couple Christmas' back and I am so sad for the changes our fam is making. This year my mom, who's 80+, is just too tired to handle having Christmas dinner at her house so 2 of my sisters and I are taking her out on the 23rd to a nice restaurant. While this will make it easier to have my BF's kids at HIS parents house (and they are also beginning to rumble about the amount of work it takes) this year, I am still saddened by the change. Plus my half-bro and SIL in Calif are having marital difficulties after 43 (!!!) years and probably won't make it...

So I've read 2 Xmas novels so far ( Marry Me at Christmas (Fool's Gold, #19) by Susan Mallery Dead By Midnight An I-Team Christmas (I-Team #7.5) by Pamela Clare ) but now I've started a wonderful new book by a lady who goes to our church. The writing in The Christmas Portrait by Phyllis Nichols is just phenomenal and the story is beautiful, but it is about a young girl's 1st Christmas after losing her mother and the first 2 chapters are tear-jerkers...so much so I woke my BF up crying while reading them! But it is SO good and I'm loving it.

Ladies, I am so thankful for you all here and pray that we can help each other thru these holidays. It is, after all, the time of year we should MOST think about each other. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

But I'm definitely glad we have each other as well. :) I wish you a Happy Holiday as well Cindi. Sounds like change is a knocking on your door in various sides and angles as well. I really hope things work out with your half bro and his wife. So much time has been invested it sounds like. Hopefully some counseling may help. Also hope your mom enjoys dining out as well with everyone.

Oh cool, that is great that you got a copy of a book from your fellow church member. Definitely sounds very moving as well too.
