Nina | 6069 comments No damage to your house or stable, I'm guessing.

message 2402: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) No big damage. Had to fix the fence in one spot & clean up some branches, but otherwise OK. The kids are keeping their fridge & freezer going with my generator as the rest of the road still doesn't have power. A lot lost power, so the crews are busy. Apparently one of the neighbors yelled at the power company dispatcher, so who knows when they'll get it.

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Storms can cause damage to trees and plants - always good news when the branches and trees don't fall on our houses, garages, cars. Mother Nature!

Weather for this week - rain rain and rain. Bad luck for folks who planned vacation this week. Ugh. That's the main reason we didn't reserve the cottage on lake for September. We rented in June for a week and were pretty lucky with the weather. We want to wait for the last possible minute to rent the cottage - no fun on a lake with rain every day.

message 2404: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We've got a lot of rain in our forecast, too. Yesterday we only got 1/2", but it was a drippy day. Too wet to mow, even to weed most of the day.

The kids got their power back at 10pm Saturday, 26 hours after ours came on. Some of that was due to recent changes to the electric system. The company changed the southern half of the road to a different route & that was fixed. There was also some confusion since my house is on a separate circuit & it was fixed, so the northern half of the road was in limbo.

I talked to a few of the linesmen & I'm sure the situation would have been cleared up much quicker if our neighbor hadn't yelled at a dispatcher at 4am. I let the linesmen know who was who. They know & like me, my kids, & a couple further down the road, so I have a feeling that the neighbor will be getting a disconnect on his line & will get power a lot later than everyone else. He has a whole house generator, so it shouldn't bother him much (save for the expense) now that he's replaced the battery on the system & it's working again.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments It's a wet day here too. At least it's a relief from the heat of the hot sun.

message 2406: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments In the eighties here and what a difference a day makes; not ninety degrees and up like most days recently. We welcome a nice day in summer/rare.

message 2407: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Oh we do miss power when it is off. Glad you are back and Ok.

message 2408: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Cooling down here too.

message 2409: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments 80 here today with high humidity. keeping doors and windows closed and all ceiling fans on. Luckily for me I'm heading off to work which has AC!

message 2410: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Yes, high humidity!!

message 2411: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments In the eighties and low humidity and that 's the good news but still way under the rain gauge as we are next to severe drought. Why rain goes where the least need it is beyond me.

message 2412: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments It's been pouring here the last few days.

message 2413: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments The weather here is great; in the eighties and low humidity but we are in extreme drought and are envious of your rain.

message 2414: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I hope you will get some rainy weather soon, Nina.

message 2415: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments This humid weather is making me crazy. Some little breezes but the humidity still in the air. Ugh.

message 2416: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I agree about the humidity. So uncomfortable!

message 2417: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Back to the nineties and we don't welcome those temps. Still no rain but maybe some day.

message 2418: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Finally, almost two inches of rain last night. The lady who does my hair said they are twelve inches below normal for rain this summer. She lives in a suburb not terribly far from me but the rainfall has definitely been sporadic as we are only about four inches below.

message 2419: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It's hot as blazes here. My shop is almost unbearable. When I was done turning a bowl last night about 6pm, my shirt was soaked. It felt a little cooler with the sun behind clouds, so I weeded one of the roadside gardens. None of the flowers in them have done well this year. I have more weeds & grass than flowers.

message 2420: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Hot here too. They predict a lot of rain here this week and possible storms. Yes, the weeds are really flourishing.

message 2421: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments PS - Glad to hear you at least had SOME rain, Nina.

message 2422: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We just got 1/8" in a downpour & have a 70% chance of more tomorrow. We could use it. Very hot & muggy - 92 before the storm. Highs should drop down into the mid 80s for the rest of the week.

message 2423: by Joy H., Group Founder (last edited Aug 07, 2018 04:10PM) (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I wonder if we'll ever see temps in the 70's again!

message 2424: by Nina (last edited Aug 09, 2018 04:45PM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Even this afternoon came a brief but welcome shower. We are thankful for any little bit. But, so thankful we are not in the CA fire zone. One of my friend's was evacuated for three days but thankfully her house was spared. Her daughter's neighbor's homes on each side of her burned to the ground. She was spared. They live in Redding, CA.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments How awful!

message 2426: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Last few days here - less humidity. Actually able to sit on back deck, drink my coffee and watch the birds.

When I went back indoors, just moments later a large male turkey ventured in the yard. Kept looking around to see if there were more turkeys, but just the one. He stayed in yard for about 20 minutes - walking around an eating things off the ground. Not sure what he was eating but whatever it was kept him in the yard. I stood inside watching.

message 2427: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Thanks for posting, Linda.

message 2428: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) That's neat, Linda. It's gotten hot here again. I think some of the hummingbirds have left. They didn't empty both feeders (32oz) on the back deck yesterday, although not a huge decrease yet.

message 2429: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments It is ninety one here today and predicted seventy eight tomorrow. Thank goodness.

message 2430: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We were in the 90s too. I sweat through my shirt in minutes after going outside. Soaked it before I came back in 2.5 hours later & I didn't even do all that much.

message 2431: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Three inches of rain last night and seventy nine today so maybe it's headed east from here.

message 2432: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Very warm here!

I've only seen 2 female hummingbirds at our feeders on a regular basis throughout the day. Haven't spotted the males.

They'll be leaving soon ...

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Weather forecasts have been so terribly unreliable. Last week we checked the weather, called to rent the cottage on pond (we were there in June) as the temps were high 70's and just yesterday it all changed. Depending on which weather source temps for Wednesday are anywhere from 84 to 90 with high humidity. That's the day we were going to the cottage.

The cottage has no a/c. When temps are just right its a wonderful cottage with lots of breezes coming through all the windows. However, the cottage is mostly exposed to sun.

We had to cancel. The owner was very understanding. Said if things change just call - September is a slow month for rentals. Keeping my fingers crossed as I wanted to go kayaking, hubby was going to fish. I was going to get to do some reading.

The pond (very large body of water) is just steps away from the cottage and its quite private and serene. (My house is in the woods and serene too just missing a large body of water!)

message 2435: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) That's a shame, Linda.

message 2436: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Linda, I hope you get good weather for your September rental.

I know, right!

message 2438: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Our new plan is to go to Brown Tract Pond campsite - non-motorized boats - either tomorrow or Monday. This campsite closes on Labor Day. We used to camp there with our RV - hubby said lets take fishing gear, your kayak (yay!!), picnic lunch and spend the day.

Another day we'll ride up to the Ausable Marsh - on one side of the road its a Marsh - I can go kayaking and on other side of road is Lake Champlain. Hubby can fish from shore on both sides. Probably bring another picnic lunch.

Another day (a hot day) we may go to the movies in nice reclining chairs.

I'd still rather be at the cottage - maybe there will be some cool days this month and we can rent the cottage for 3 days. I'm hopeful.

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Weather - a cool morning. Rained last night. Overcast this morning. Glad to have some relief from the humidity and heat but its coming in a day or 2. Such weird weather. Never had such a string of hot and humid weather. Hoping this isn't a new trend.

message 2440: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Linda, I hope your plans work out well for you.

message 2441: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Have a nice Labor day weekend everyone. Mine will be quiet except for buying books at B & N for great grandchildren. But our flag goes out.

message 2442: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Happy Labor Day Weekend to all!

message 2443: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Labor Day was quiet. A good thing.

Wednesday going to be hot. Either going to a museum or to the mall and browse.

Still have some hummingbirds. They haven't left yet. Jim, do you still have some hummers?

message 2444: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Yes, it's still hot. :)

message 2445: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Raining and about eighty degrees but down to seventies the next few days; plus more rain. Yeah..

message 2446: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We're about 90 with similar humidity. The grass is loving it & we're going to have to mow the fields again soon. Doing anything outside is a chore, though. Just too hot & sticky.

message 2447: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Perfect weather for at least the next few days; fifties at night and seventies in the daytime and then a few days later in the eighties. Low humidity and no rain for a week. My garden is happy as is the gardener/me..

message 2448: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments It's cooling down here. No sun today.

message 2449: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Chilly today - 61 this morning - & rainy all day. 1.5" last night, not much accumulation today, just misty & wet.

message 2450: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Still perfect weather for our Royals baseball games.
