Jim (jimmaclachlan) The Wikipedia page has some good photos & explanations about killdeer.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killdeer

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We're supposed to get to 60 today. I don't know what the temp is now as it was mid 30s while we were looking at trailers this morning. Now a big storm has rolled in & I'm typing one handed while Lily shivers across my lap. She's scared to death of thunder storms. A 45lb pointer is too big to be a lap dog save on the couch.

I didn't realize they are birds!

Nina | 6069 comments Good info and photos. Now I will know what kind of bird if one appears here. Thanks for submitting the web site and give Lily a hug from me.

Mary JL (maryjl) | 527 comments We have had several snow storms--three in one week. Then it got about 40 foue days ago. Unfortunately at the same time very heavy rain.

Lots of flooding. Missouri Valley, Iowa only 30 miles from omaha--mandatory evacuation. North Bend Nebraska--flooding. Norfolk, Ne starting evacuations due to flooding. Council Bluffs, Iowa )directly across the Missouri River from Downtown Omaha---several streets closed due to flooding.

message 2657: by Mary JL (new)

Mary JL (maryjl) | 527 comments I live in an apartment about four miles from downtown Omaha. Usually safe from flooding although a few streets down near the river are affected. But many Nebraskans will lose a lot from the combined effects of snow melt and rain.

message 2658: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Sorry to hear about the flooding, Mary.

message 2659: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) That's terrible, Mary. We've got storms blowing through today. There's supposed to be a tornado watch this evening. Bad weather all over, I guess.

message 2660: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Rain here and heavy winds but not flooding; thank goodness.

message 2661: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Finally a nice day near fifty five degrees just in time for our huge St.Patrick's day parade.

message 2662: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Happy St. Patrick's Day!

message 2663: by Nina (last edited Mar 22, 2019 07:54AM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments At least the weather is good; sixty three degrees predicted for afternoon. Making some progress as they believe the water is gone in the basement; now the ceiling is to be repaired and the dehumidifiers are working full blast to try to dry carpets and my nice neighbor has dried the throw rugs. Life goes on but not as usual yet.

message 2664: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I'm glad things are going better, Nina. It's a nice day here, although it started out cold. It's low 50s & the breeze is strong & chilly.

message 2665: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Glad to hear things are improving, Nina.

message 2668: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I see your test, Linda.

message 2669: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Cold out. Sunny.
30 minutes south of my home the snow is almost gone. Can see grass.

My yard is still covered with snow. Deck is clear. Driveway area - where it was plowed - still 5 feet deep in some areas.

message 2670: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments The piles of snow will be around for a while, I think.

message 2671: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It was a gorgeous day here. Started out in the upper 20s, but warmed up into the 60s by late afternoon. I spent all day out doing chores & hope to do so again tomorrow.

message 2672: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Hope we get 60's soon. That would be nice.
Current temp here is 40°F.

message 2673: by Mary JL (new)

Mary JL (maryjl) | 527 comments Omaha, Nebraska has finally had a dry week. Omaha itself did have some flood damage but not nearlt as much as the rural areas. Only three people dead so far but thousands have lost their homes; roads and bridges washed out; crops destroyed; livestock drowned.

The economic blow to the state economy will be huge. Rxperts predict millions of dollars loss in agriculture alone. And rivers are still high and April rains yet to come----not over yet!

message 2674: by Mary JL (new)

Mary JL (maryjl) | 527 comments To put it on a samaller, more personal level. Omaha has had 'minimal] damage but....Spoke to a friend today---lives six blocks from me but I am at the top of a hill andhis house in on the bottome of his street.. He has much water damage to his basement affection the foundation of his house. Repairs will be about $4K. So, he did not lose his house but how many people have that much extra in savings/ Not many. Flood insurance is hard to get and high priced.

message 2675: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) That's so tough. I hope the spring rains don't hurt you all any more. It's one reason I never bought any bottom land, though. I cleaned up after more than enough flooding as a kid. We had a creek running through our farm. During Agnus, a tropical storm in the early 1970s. we saw it rise 13' & cover about half the farm.

message 2676: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments MARY, I'M SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE FLOODING.

message 2677: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Yeah it will be seventy in a couple of days. And I bought a fern for the patio today but it's still inside for a while yet.

message 2678: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments And now more rain predicted; so terrible.. Enough already.

message 2679: by Linda (new)

message 2682: by Jim (new)

message 2686: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments CURRENT TEMP HERE IS: 52°F

message 2687: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Yesterday morning snowflakes as large as a half dollar and then sunshine in afternoon and no sign of snow.

message 2688: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments STRANGE WEATHER!

message 2689: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Supposed to be seventy degrees by end of day tomorrow. I was going to take advantage of the annuals/mainly pansies/that are on sale but forecast for next weekend is for a cold front with temps in the thirties at night so am postpone the flower buying until that blows over. I am so tired of cold fronts. The reconstruction of our downstairs has yet to begin/major work expected; almost entire new decor and carpet. Ceilings repaired and sheet rock and so forth. Wonder if it will be done in my lifetime.

message 2690: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It was in the 70s here today. Gorgeous! Everything is popping, so I decided to take tomorrow off to get stuff done. Of course, there's now a 60% chance of rain. Sigh.

message 2691: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Sorry to read that repairs are going so slowly, Nina. Hopefully they'll get done soon!

message 2692: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, I hope the repairs will be done soon.

message 2693: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Mostly in the seventies; almost eight degrees this coming week but a cold front near the weekend with lows at night in the thirties. Maybe it is the last cold front; hopefully so I am get my plants out. All the trees are blossoming and that is a time of beauty in our city.

message 2694: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments 70's sounds heavenly, Nina.

message 2695: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Our weather has been warm, but wet. Yesterday was clear & dry though so I got a lot done. Not so much Friday & today. I did get all the tractors oiled, greased, & powerwashed. I also did some gardening, planting a bunch of seeds Marg got me & some more gourds from the few that grew last year. I have no idea what I'll do with them since I still have dozens leftover from the banner year 3 or 4 years back.

message 2696: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments TEMP WENT UP TO 60 F TODAY HERE!

message 2697: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Mostly upper seventies here then cold front later in week. Hope the flowering trees aren't zapped.

message 2698: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Good luck to your blossoms, Nina!

message 2699: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments First cold weather and now eighties; my pansies don't know how to react. Maybe I'll go read them a poem.

message 2700: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Poor old pansies!
