Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments It must be hard to know how to dress, with those fluctuating temperatures.

message 2352: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I saw our asparagus poking up yesterday & today it's snowing. Oy!

message 2353: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments bird feeder has icicles
deck is icy
ugh ugh ugh

Waiting until noon time to go out - understand roads are fine
just have to get out of house and down the tree-lined driveway - that's why I'm waiting until noon!! :)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Wise decision, Linda.

Enjoy your asparagus, Jim. :)

message 2355: by Mary JL (new)

Mary JL (maryjl) | 527 comments More 'roller coaster" weather! 75 on Friday April 13th and 25 degrees on Sunday Morning April 15th with snow! Light snow, granted, but still snow! And Omaha was lucky---the far western section of Nebraska had a blizzard warning, much more snow and high winds.

Oh meanwhile, across the Missouri river in Central Iowa, a funnel cloud was seen forming---though no tornado touched down, thank God!

Whatever else we can say about our weather, we can't gripe about lack of variety...........

Nina | 6069 comments Hard freeze tonight and then in upper sixties on Thurs..Yes, crazy weather here too.

message 2357: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Temp here is 38.3 F.

message 2358: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Finally bought pansies and hope to plant them in baskets on my fence on Friday. Still cold today. We have set all kinds of cold April weather this year. Unfortunately.

message 2359: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Current temp here is 49.3 F. Yes, chilly!!!

message 2360: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It got into the 70s today, but is supposed to be in the 30s tomorrow & below freezing tomorrow night. I made up hummingbird food, but I can't put the feeders out tonight due to high winds.

message 2361: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Poor little hummingbirds!

message 2362: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I haven't seen any yet, Joy. It's just about time for them to come by according to my notes.

message 2363: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments None of you mention cardinals. Are there any around your neck of the woods? They are here all winter.

message 2364: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We have a lot of cardinals around constantly. I can generally see half a dozen any time I look out at the feeders.

message 2365: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments You've heard the old saying, "A lonely petunia in the onion patch." Well, I have a lonely tulip sitting alone in my garden. I wonder where the others are. No sign of digging so they can't be stolen.

message 2366: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Finally in the low sixties and forties at night so I planted pansies in the baskets on my back fence this afternoon. Need more, naturally and because the local nursery has their geranium sale starting tomorrow that's where I'll be.

message 2367: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Good luck with your garden, Nina.

message 2368: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Thanks. The weather cooperated but I need to have knees ten years younger. It has taken me three days to plant and I still need a few more plants; herbs and one more hanging basket. Sometime I'll send a few photos on your email. I wanted to have the garden looking nice because I'm having my garden club for a brunch on Monday.

message 2369: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments That's a good motivator, Nina, having the garden club for brunch. I'm sure it will be lovely.

message 2370: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments The brunch went well but I am pretty tired this evening. They were supposed to just come here for rolls and coffee and the go tour one of our local gardens but they had such a good time eating and visiting they stayed two hours and forgot about going on tour. I served lemon blueberry poviticia, raspberry chocolate sturdel and homemade Apricot bread; coffee, mango lemon tea and Jasamine green tea. And fruit salad. It also happened to be my daughter's sixty eighth birthday so we all sang Happy Birthday to her and toasted with cranberry juice. I think a good time was had by all and fortunately I had my little back garden planted.

message 2371: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Seventy today so spring has finally arrived here. We had the coldest April on record so far.

message 2372: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Sounds like a great day, Nina.

message 2373: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Glad it went well for you, Nina.

message 2374: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments only 45 degrees, chilly, cloudy - at least there isn't any snow or ice out there today

Wednesday predict 77 degrees and partly sunny then get cool again

message 2375: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Wish it would warm up for good!

message 2376: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Finally it's spring/seventies and eighty some days; air conditioning in stores and in the car. Now all we need is rain.Trees in full lovely pink and white blooms and the fountains are on all over the city.

message 2377: by Joy H., Group Founder (last edited Apr 30, 2018 12:46PM) (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Sounds wonderful!

message 2378: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It's beautiful here, too. I'm busy changing the oil on the tractor & other equipment, putting gravel into washed out ditches along the road, & pulling bushes. We could use some rain too, but it's not bad yet. We were down to freezing Sunday morning, but the days have been about 60. Today it got warmer & Wednesday is supposed to be 80.

message 2379: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Trouble in "paradise" as we have strong winds gusting up to fifty miles per hour and hoping they don't take my red bud tree branches. Already have probably ruined my hibiscus tall plants.

message 2380: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Oh no! That's terrible.

message 2381: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Winds can be frightening. Hope they taper off.

message 2382: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Better today but some hibiscus didn't survive but at least the red bud tree's branches survived and that is the most important. One windstorm took a large branch from it. Now work on our street to we are marooned for the day. At least I can rest my three broken toes and not venture out.

message 2383: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Glad to hear the red bud tree's branches survived.

message 2384: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Ouch. When did you break your toes, Nina? Did I miss that?

message 2385: by Nina (last edited May 01, 2018 12:01PM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments I have a quilt rack at the bottom of my bed made for me by a loving woodworking friend that I have had there at one place or the other where we've lived for over twenty five years and never a problem; until one morning I got out of bed and in rushing past it I hit my middle three toes and OUCH.. The bones are tender on a ninety year old and I was certain they were broken. Everyone assured me there was nothing to be done and they must just heal themselves. I taped them to my one remaining good toe and that was OK for a while and now I have taped the two remaining two painful ones together and fortunately I can walk with not much limping..I plan to go to a granddaughter's wedding in CA in June so hoping they'll be OK by then..

message 2386: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Hope your toes will be OK, Nina.

message 2387: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Ouch. Hope they heal soon, Nina. Broken toes are no fun. Well, no broken bone is, but I seem to do OK with lower legs & arms. Much easier to deal with than fingers, toes, & ribs. I especially hate broken ribs, though. They just linger forever & keep hurting for months with just the wrong movement.

message 2388: by Mary JL (new)

Mary JL (maryjl) | 527 comments Currently in Omaha, Nebraska the current temperature is 97 degress F with a heat index "feels Like" 106!

message 2389: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Yuck! We got down to 85 today, but it's supposed to go up into the 90s this weekend & we have to get hay. Ugh.

message 2390: by Joy H., Group Founder (last edited Jul 12, 2018 06:13PM) (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments It's hot here too! I wonder if this is part of the "CLIMATE CHANGE" and the melting icebergs!

message 2391: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Not very humid the last 2 days although the temperature is rising. 72 degrees right now. Going out on back deck soon and get off the computer. Watch the birds, maybe a deer or 2 or 3 ...

message 2392: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Enjoy the birds, Linda. I wonder if they mind the heat. :)

message 2393: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Yesterday 100 degrees; Today is expected to be 97. We are hoping for relief next week. It is even too warm when I walk early around seven o'clock. Not a fun summer so far.

message 2394: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Stay cool as much as you can, Nina.

message 2395: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Gorgeous day yesterday and starting out to be the same today.

Good day for the opening of the flat track in Saratoga Springs. Tourists galore and lots of traffic.

message 2396: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Storms to start off the day here. Poor Marg got woken up in the middle of one early this morning by the dogs barking. She had just gotten her boots on & her rain coat over her nightgown when Pip jumped through the dog door with a dead racoon in his mouth. What a good boy!

I saw a fawn by the side of the road. I didn't have time to stop, but I think its mother might have gotten hit. I don't particularly want to raise a fawn right now. Maybe if/when I retire.

message 2397: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments On the National News this morning; thirteen at last count died on an upturned duck boat on Table Rock lake in southern MO. I had been on that lake several times but always wearing a life jacket. They say some of the dead are children. I wonder if they weren't wearing life jackets. Joy, I know you have sailed much in your life and didn't you wear a jacket?

message 2398: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Sad stuff, Jim and Nina.

Our kids always wore life jackets.

message 2399: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I got home from work today - another crappy one - & the power went out about 4pm. Cooked dinner of leftovers on the grill & finally decided to get the generator out at 8pm. I had it running & was just pulling the extension cord in when the electric came on. Well, that's better than dealing with all the plugs first.

Another round of storms blasting around us now. Some really big hail in places nearby, although we haven't had any. We did get over an inch of rain in 15 minutes twice today, though. High winds, lots of broken trees. I guess a sheer line went through. Broke one side of our crepe myrtle, one main limb of a rosebud, & then a maple across the street. Very narrow path of destruction.
