JennyWren (guinivere87) | 174 comments Ok. I added the date to my review. Sorry about that.

I'll be reading Renegade (Elite Ops, #5) by Lora Leigh for our Green Cover book.

AH | 2271 comments 2/12/13 - Finished my green cover book Black Heart Loa (Hoodoo, #2) by Adrian Phoenix - 4 stars.

This book picks up right where Black Dust Mambo left off and at a frenetic pace. Freak Hurricane Evelyn is headed for Louisiana. All the magic and wards are wonky. Meanwhile, all sorts of scary things are after Kallie, a young hoodoo. I loved the combination of all sorts of root magic, voodoo, and hoodoo. Oh, and Kallie keeps her clothes on for most of the book.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL! Oh, and Kallie keeps her clothes on for most of the book.

I'd forgotten about that series, AH. I've been waiting for an Adrian Phoenix book for a long time, feels like. I read both her series - that one and Maker's Song. The next MS book release date keeps getting pushed back.

AH | 2271 comments Steph, do you know if she's planning more of the Black Dust Mambo books? They're pretty good.

I checked her website and there is supposed to be a book called Black Moon Mojo in 2013.

message 109: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I don't. But, she did post this in response to someone who asked about future Hoodoo books, "January 6, 2013 at 10:50 pm ~ Another Hoodoo book will be coming." Nothing else I could find though. She has a short out in the series, Caught Forever Between, which came out early last year. I've yet to read it though.

She has the coolest website and she explains all the voodoo/hoodoo stuff too.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments She does. I haven't read it all, but I read through a lot of it a while back. I pop over occasionally to check for release info. Nada. :/

Megan L Harnett Bloom by Elizabeth Scott

Finished: 2/12/13
Review: ★★★☆☆

This story is about a girl who is average. She has the perfect boyfriend and their relationship is perfect. Or so it seems. Then she meets another boy Evan who she actually falls in love with. The author does a good job about showing how true love is messy and not perfect. I enjoyed it and it was a quick fun read.

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 1193 comments If I Die (Soul Screamers, #5) by Rachel Vincent

Finished: 2/13/13
Stars: 5

I am glad I re-read this book. I fell in love with Tod all over again. I read it again cause I am about to read Before I Wake. I need to refresh. I liked that it was fast pace and kept in the book. I am off to buy Before I Wake and in March I am going to buy With All My Soul. I can't wait to see how this series ends but I don't want it to end.

Stephanie (Reading is Better With Cupcakes) (imjustcupcake) | 255 comments The Goddess Test (Goddess Test, #1) by Aimee Carter

Finished: 2/13/13
Stars: 3.5

For the most part I enjoyed it. It was a fun, light and fluffy read. Easy to get through. However, another part of me wanted more depth to the characters. The relationships seemed very superficial. All of a sudden people became besties out of no where. The romance seemed to blossom quite awkwardly and unnaturally too.

Finished 16.2.2013

4 Stars

I don't usually go for romantiv suspense because there always seems to be a stalker involved and the mystery is really no mystery at all.
I liked this one though. The chemistry between the two main characters Nik and Mikayla was scorching hot. Tortured hero meets innocent little virgin. :-) I might check out more of Lora Leighs books. I#ve heard good things about the breeds series.

AH | 2271 comments 2/18/13 - Finished my red book - Hex Appeal (Phoenix Chronicles; The Shadowfae Chronicles, #4.5; Kate Daniels, #5.6; The Dresden Files, #11.9) by P.N. Elrod - 3 stars

Hex Appeal is a collection of 9 short stories. While anthologies are not usually my favorite reads, I found this anthology to be a quick and enjoyable way to spend a freezing cold Sunday. While most of the stories ranked in the 2 - 3 star range, 3 stories stood out for me:

RETRIBUTION CLAUSE by Ilona Andrews
I'm beginning to think that there is probably not a book or story of the writing team Ilona Andrews that I wouldn't like. I mean, who would think to combine the urban fantasy world of Kate Daniels and something as innocuous as insurance adjusters? Retribution clause takes place in Philadelphia, in a world where magic wreaks havoc. The murdered wife of a lawyer had a retribution clause attached to her life insurance policy and Adam and Siroun are sent to "collect". 4/5 stars

BIGFOOT ON CAMPUS by Jim Butcher
Figures that Harry Dresden would know Bigfoot aka River Shoulders. Harry explains the mayhem and destruction at a campus dorm to a campus cop. Oh, and there are vampires of the White Court involved. How I have missed Harry. 4.5/5 stars

THE ARCANE ART OF MISDIRECTION by Carrie Vaughn
Julie, a Las Vegas card dealer witnesses a cheater. She then sees something completely out of the ordinary and follows Grant out of the casino. A clever take on magic and illusion. 4/5 stars

HOLLY'S BALM by Rachel Caine
So when is a zombie not a zombie? When he has been resurrected by a witch. This short story is about a serial killer who resurrects his victims and kills them again. Nicely done. 3/5 stars

The other stories were not to my taste but fans of those authors may enjoy those stories.

Finished: 2/19/13
4 stars

This was one of those books that, for me atleast, felt pretty slow in the beginning. However, some where in there I got addicted to the story. I ended up staying up pretty late just to finish it. I had to know what was going to happen and how it was going to end.

Something I really appreciated about this book was that Mac was not nearly as annoying as she was in the first one. Totally stuck on her looks and what not. She is still some what stuck on them, but she isn't shoving her pink fashion sense down our throats quite as often as she was in the last installment.

It will be interesting to see where things are going in the next book. I have a lot of predictions about who is what etc. It will be interesting to see how right or wrong I am.

Megan L Harnett The Mating (Law of the Lycans, #1) by Nicky Charles

Finished: 2/19/13
Rating: ★★★★☆

This book is about a girl who is a werewolf. She is forced to mate with an Alpha of another pack to keep peace between the two packs. As she is getting to know her new mate there are all sorts of obstacles that try to keep them apart.

This is a good story and has been on my TBR for ever. I was glad I finally read it. It is a sweet love story. I think I liked it because even though it was and arranged match the two characters were not apposed to it and there were no temper tantrums or big fight scenes. They just were trying to make the best of the situation and eventually fell in love.

message 133: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments Megan, I've had that one on my to read list forever, too. I think it was one of the first freebies I downloaded. Good to hear that you liked it.

I read this book in one day. I found that I like this book more then I thought. Wendy was a good heroin and I was right with here falling in love with Finn. I am going to have to go out and buy the other two books in paperback. I have read My Blood Approves by her but I didn't like as much as I liked this book. So if you are new to this author I say read this book first.

RED COVER

Finished 22/2/3012
5 Stars

So sorry for posting late. I was away from my computer for the weekend.
Anyway, it~s on of my favourites and the book that first got my into werewolves. Clay and Elena are still one of my favourite couples although I'm having a hard time reading the other books in this series. Somehow the men and women of the Otherworld series are just boring copies to me. I love that the mate thing comes with an angle and that Elena doesn't just accept everything point blank. I love how she tries to seperate herself from the pack but always comes back when they need her. The secondary characters are well written and add to the humour and banter between Elena and Clay. SO five stars!

Megan L Harnett Ok I will post for another draw. I know this challenge is a little harder with the time limit being in the middle of the weekend. If you guys know you are going to be away for a weekend can you try and make sure your reviews are posted before you go away so it doesn't hold up the rest of us.
