I Just Finished Reading (or I'm Reading Next!)
I just finished reading Shadows claim by kresley cole. loved it! I'm now reading deception Cove by jayne castle.
Well, I am a sucker for a cable TV show so I am now reading the "White Queen" by Philippa Gregory. I have acquired the first three books of the series so I am going to be knee deep in the cousin wars for the month of November.
Just finished House of Sand and Secrets by Cat Hellisen, and about to start God's War by Kameron Hurley. Or New Amsterdam by Elizabeth Bear. Maybe both.
for customizable fantasy: read Entwined! I am putting on my to-do list :p Entwined by Cecillia Tan et al.
I've just finished Oryx & Crake by Margaret Atwood, which was okay. The style was kind of plodding and I couldn't connect with the main character, who just came across as a whining, formerly entitled adult-kid. The last quarter was really good, though, so I've picked up Year of the Flood to read next, along with The Night Circus.
I finished visions of heat which was really good. Now I'm reading wild invitation and I loved nate's and tamsyn's story.
I've been on a Zoe Archer kick since we read Warrior. I read the rest of the Blades of the Rose series, plusLady X's Cowboy (one of her earlier ones she's re-edited and released) and am on the last book of the Ether Chronicles - last book for me being #2, because I started with the chronological final book, Skies of Gold when Smart Bitches, Trashy Books highlighted it on sale. I think that's my favorite one in the series. The interesting part of the Ether Chronicles is that Archer trades books in the series with her husband, Nico Rosso. His Nights of Steel is the first "VF" novel I can remember reading that is written by a man. You can kind of tell from the dialogue and descritions, but it's not a bad thing at all. I think it would make a good theme one month, ladyporn books written by a dude!
If you're a fan of Rachel Vincent's 'Shifters', Patricia Briggs' 'Alpha& Omega', or Kelley Armstrong's Elena, check out Amanda Carlson's 'Full Blooded'.A friend of mine lent it to me last week, and it's a very good read. Now have to go and buy ALL the other books in the series. So much for my book budget!
I finished simply irresistible and now I'm reading Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews. I am really liking this book so far.
Just finished Looking for Alaska by John Green, and I'm in the middle of Blue Asylum by Kathy Hepinstall.
I just finished paranormal dystopian Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken. 2nd book in The Darkest Minds trilogy. and just about to start Blythewood by Carol Goodman.
Just finished reading Soulless by Gail Carriger, from the vaginal fantasy picks (I'm a very slow reader) , I found it a lot of fun & good humor. I'm about to read Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey. I wonder can anyone recommend Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter?
Carol wrote: "Just finished reading Soulless by Gail Carriger, from the vaginal fantasy picks (I'm a very slow reader) , I found it a lot of fun & good humor. I just finished
which was a nice surprise (even if some of the secondary characters were a little too shallow), I will probably start reading Siege and Storm (second book in the series) when I find some free time.
I just finished reading the Razorland series by Ann Aguirre (though now I see that there are more than the 3 I read). I read Enclave, Outpost, and Horde. Probably one of the better trilogies that I've read lately! It was great from start to finish (unlike Hunger Games and the Divergent series).
just finished this months pick, so now started with 'The Help' by Kathryn Stockett. only a few chapters in but loving the characters already
Rachael wrote: "just finished this months pick, so now started with 'The Help' by Kathryn Stockett. only a few chapters in but loving the characters already"Gosh I LOVE that book :)
Gotobedmouse wrote: "I am about 100 pages into Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner or as I remember in 1993 "The Stork Club" by Iris Rainer Dart. About to start "The Phantom Tollbooth" which is what my oldest is re..."
I love that movie/book. So clever!
SK, have you read The Mermaid's Song by Alida Van Gores? It's an older book and out of print, but if you ever find it in a used bookstore or library, I highly recommend it - best mermaid novel ever. Pure fantasy, though it does have a romance in it, only one sex scene, but just an amazing story.
I just finished the main pick for this month, and started Fire Logic by Laurie J Marks and I am digging it so far...
I'm currently reading The Duchess War and absolutely loving it ... can we have a Courtney Milan book at some point???
Well, let's see; I just finished the "Abhorsen" trilogy with "Sabriel", "Lirael" and "Ahborsen" by Garth Nix, "The Fiery Heart" the fourth book in "Bloodlines" the "Vampire Academy" spin off series by Richelle Mead, the third and final book in the "Asylum" trilogy by Lauren Hammond; "Beautiful Nightmares" and I just finished book one of "The Farm" series called "The Farm" by Emily McKay and have just started it's sequel; "The Lair" and I checked out "Safety Skills for Asperger Women: How to Save a Perfectly Good Female Life" by Liane Holliday Willeyz EdD, which, by the way, is really insightful and interesting so far! ^__^
I just finished Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Loads of fun. Pure 80s geek nostalgia. I was just about to start my current go to book that I've read quite a few times, The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon, but think I might start Legend by Marie Lu. Yes I have a YA dystopian obsession right now.
I just finished reading caressed by ice and mine to possess by Nalini Singh. Now I'm reading poison Princess by Kresley Cole.
I just finished poison Princess by Kresley cole and animal magnetism by Jill shelvis. Now I'm reading endless Knight by Kresley cole.
I just finished my first two romance books that were not for VF--Unclaimed and The Raven Prince. However, now it's time to get Guilty Pleasures finished before the next hangout. Plus, A Natural History of Dragons: A Memoir by Lady Trent for Sword and Laser.
I recently stumbled across this:https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
...and it's completely charming. There's an animated version of it that I believe you could find on Youtube, which I'm going to hunt around for.
Edit: Here's part 1 of that animation:

A fellow goodreadian, Alicja, recommended an author to me a while back, and I was converted after the first book by her I read:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...
So, my plan for the end of the year is to read this one:

...because that seems like a good way to round out 2013.

So far this month, I've read The Rook by Daniel O'Malley, Waking Up Dead by Margo Bond Collins, and Naamah's Kiss by Jacqueline Carey. I'm currently reading The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley.
Rebecca wrote: "I just finished Slave to sensation. Now I'm reading Visions of heat."Rebecca, sp have you finished the entire series yet? I love Nalini Singh's shifters. They are totally awesome!!
I've been reading the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning and I am super-addicted! On the last book, Shadowfever, right now.
I've just finished reading Larissa Ione's, Bound by Night, and I loved it! So if you're looking for a new series, I'm going to definitely be following it!
Ender wrote: "Read & skimmed We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed with Our Families (a book on the genocide in Rwanda in the mid 90s). Though the book is really poorly organized, I would recomm..."I read that, too. Heartbreaking and infuriating. :( Strongly recommended.
The most recent book I read was Elizabeth Hunter's A Hidden Fire.
I started The Mirror of Her Dreams, which Kiala has mentioned a couple of times on the show. I have already come upon some naughty bits, so it seems promising. On top of that, it's a serious fantasy novel with a female protagonist who is really interesting. I don't know her whole story, and it appears neither does she.
I juat finished Styxx by sherrilyn kenyon and it was awesome! Now I'm reading the alt book for the month goddess of spring by p.c. cast.
I just finished this month's main pick The Darkest Kiss Lords of the Underworld 2. Meh. Now I'm reading The Last Unicorn.
Teresa I haven't finished the series but I love it. I just bought Heart of obsidian and I can't wait to read it. I also plan on reading her other series too.
Just finished The Disillusionists Trilogy (mind games, double cross and head rush). I really enjoyed the series, though the fist and last book were much better than the second.
I loved the concept of the books which is really neurotic people could zing others with their crazy, thus expelling it from themselves. Great for them, not so much for the target. So, they only zap bad guys. Book would make a great Joss Wedon TV series.

About to start "The Phantom Tollbooth" which is what my oldest is re..."
Not at all VF, but, from what I know, quite amusing. I heard a bit of it read aloud years ago on a local kid's TV show. A bit Alice-in-Wonderlandish, although not so much weird, as odd.
