We have 2 Lab brothers, 6 years old, that rule the nest. Today I took them to the vet for their yearly checkup, shots, heartworm etc...and it ended up costing me more than my medical expenses for the whole year. Fish are looking good right now!!! Ha Ha!!!
Lol Chris! How do you manage 7?! I can barely handle 2... Mind you, Ham IS the size of three... BUT STILL? Ok Ter'e, I HAVE to ask about the Parrot. Me, I'm scared of birds, but do parrots naturally pick up words (like in the movies) or do the require a lot of teaching?
Janet: reading us for night time. As much as I love a great book, we're WAY more fun! I mean, where else are you going to hear about donkeys, parrots, 7 cats & my fat Ham?! ;p
Sue! Lol :-) What can I say, animals don't come cheap!!
Terri! Ain't that the truth, been really funny tonight! :-D

Janet Sandhu wrote: "Seven cats?!! Goodness! Do they get along?"It took a few years, but they generally tolerate each other (sort of). Two are pretty bonded and like to share a cat bed and groom each other--sweet.

They do take a lot of time, especially since 6 are seniors and are all on meds and several need encouragement to eat all their food. One needs subcutaneous fluid twice a day, and 3 of them get an extra meal in the middle of the night (new meaning for On Demand--LOL). They are worth it though--they are my kids.
Ruth!! You're here! I'm so glad to see you!what have you been up to? Besides looking after your FIL/cat? Lol
Hi Everyone! I’m Jamie and live in Omaha, NE. I joined a couple of days ago…way back when there were only 508 members! :) I love a good story so I read a lot of different genres but I’m a sucker for a good mystery/suspense. This group looks like a lot of fun and I’m excited to find some new authors to read!
With Lola.......the Blue Crown Conure.........(she is about 200 grams)......it is repetition, repetition, repetition. I pour water for the dogs and Lola says Wanna sip???? I pop a wine cork, Wanna Sip???? When she wants to be cute, she says Waz Up????(in her up voice). She also asks for kisses and if she asks loudly, she kisses loudly. If she whispers, and asks for a kiss, she gives a whisper kiss. She cries.....WAAAAAAA and then tells herself Quit!!!!!!The funniest tho, if we have left her for any length of time and we come home...........she hollers GET ME!!!!! Oh yes, she giggles like me!
When I travel, I tell her how many days I will be gone. Each day, my son tells her Mommy will be home in 6 days.......then 5 days.......etc......on the last day, Lola is all perked up and says Thank You all day long. Dave is also a member of her flock, so she lets him babysit her and she never plucks!
She loves to bow and say thank you. She is a really good, non-screeching bird.
She once heard a couple gunshots....at 2 a.m. And she stayed quiet and rang her bell til we got up and investigated. If anyone comes into our yard, she throws a fit to alarm me ( and Charley, the Havanese). She is like having my own alarm system.
And yes, she has nailed me twice.........to the point I should have had stitches. Twice in 8 years? I'll take that. She is really a sweetheart.
Ruth wrote: "Wait a minute. Are you talking about CATS? I nodded off. Lol."Whoa!! I wondered where that was going! Good for you for caring for him, Ruth. Iam in charge of 3 oldsters--my Mom who has been in nursing home since breaking hip in 7-12. She is 88 and also has dementia and Parkinsonism. My dad is 95 and is in senior independent living so I need a close watch on him. I am also responsible for his 97 year old big sister who is also in Nursing home. I am her legal guardian. This is main reason why I did early retirement last fall!

Welcome to the group Jamie! I hope you haven't been affected too badly by all the bad whether in the midwest!!
@Christine: it is a complicated, love/hate relationship. :)And I wasn't aware of that! I thought my greatest appeal was being well-read, articulate, a good cook while still managing to do most of the housework. Nope, it was the cats. Ha.
We have a pony, a horse, 3 adult goats, 3 kids (goats lol) 2 guinea pigs, several hamsters, 4 fancy mice, a few goldfish, 2 pot bellied pigs, some ducks and chickens...Did I forget anything? lol
Hi, I'm Tensy from Kansas and I recently joined the group. I'm an academic librarian, and unfortunately I only get to read books AFTER work. I prefer literary fiction and science fiction to mysteries, but I do like one every so often, especially in audiobook format. I get frequent grief from my brother-in-law, Joel Goldman that my book preferences don't include more mysteries, so I am joining this group to rectify that!
Hey guys, I'm Ishita ! I'm from Indore, India !I love reading ! I'm a sucker for old books :p
My favorite authors include Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters and the Shakespeare !
My favorite genres include classics, romance and thriller/mystery !
I absolutely love a story that has a mystery/suspense/thrill to offer !
Have fun reading :)

Do the piggies get to come in the house? I hear they make nice pets.

I looked him up as his name looked clickable and ended up buying his Jack Davis series of 3 books on Amazon! They look good, so thank you for introducing me to Joel Goldman and his novels!

Hi! My name is Rosa Miller. I'm a suspense-thriller writer from The Netherlands. Thank you so much for inviting me to this group. I published my debut a half year ago and the second is on its way. In about a few weeks "Sun Tzu Daughters", the US version of my debut, will be ready for publishing. When I am not writing, I read of course. My favorite writers are Ian Fleming (I love to re-read a great classic) and Dan Brown (Deception point is one of my favorite books).
Welcome to Ishita, Tensy and Rosa
