Lauren (laurenjberman) Finished Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost - which was a fun read but not exactly the brilliant masterpiece I was expecting given the hype. Cat and Bones's banter is great but their romance didn't really grab me. Maybe it will in the next book.

Now listening to Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson, #2) by Darynda Jones - pretty good so far.

message 502: by Alisa (new)

Alisa Finishing Twice Tempted (Night Prince, #2) by Jeaniene Frost which was ok. Not sure why everyone is so excited about it. I'm going to start Seduced by the Storm (ACRO, #3) by Sydney Croft It got moved to the top of my tbr pile because I only need F to finish the character name challenge and the heroine's name is Faith....lol

I like the Cat & Bones book but I agree. I think they're fun but I consider them kind of a "starter" vampire book. As you read more in the genre you find books a lot more detailed, complex, etc.

I do love Bones but the series lost momentum for me in the last few books too. I heard that she is wrapping that series up w/one more book. Not sure. I know there is one more in the Vlad series too but that won't be a read for me probably.

It is a good thing that she is wrapping both of them up. I hate it when series go on too long. I wish that Vlad would have only been one book. I will probably will read the next one, but will get it from the library.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments @Darcy and Alisa that is just disappointing about Twice Tempted. I was looking forward to it. But I am in total agreement about Cat and Bones time to wrap that one up.

I feel like there are a lot of series that it is time to end. But then there are a lot that have ended lately.

message 510: by Alisa (new)

Alisa It might just be me Dawn. There have been a ton of 5 star reviews & happy readers.

message 511: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Took a break from fantasy and went into historical romance. I read The Viscount Who Loved Me (Bridgertons, #2) by Julia Quinn Thief of Shadows (Maiden Lane, #4) by Elizabeth Hoyt

I tried The Brides of Rollrock Island by Margo Lanagan and I just could not get into it so it ended up being a DNF

Still not quite ready for fantasy just yet so I am going to read Replay by Ken Grimwood The Racketeer by John Grisham

message 512: by Alisa (new)

Alisa Finished Night Demon (Night Series, #2) by Lisa Kessler A unique take on vampires but it was just ok for me. Not sure why I'm not clicking with this series.

FINALLY reading A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2) by Kresley Cole and loving it. Don't know what took me so long to get to this series.

Thethriftybooklady (readingdiva8511) | 109 comments I tried reading Fifty Shades Darker but could not get into it as much as I could the last two. I'm thinking that it was because I haven't read a PNR/UR in awhile and needed to get back to my roots so to speak. So for now that book is still on my to read list.

But I have started The scent of Shadows (First sign of the Zodiac) by Vicki Pettersson. I've heard a lot of good things about this author even from Kim Harrison when I went to a book signing not that long ago. Kim Said that Vicki was one of her favorite authors in the PNR/UR genre. So I'm really excited to see what this book has in store for me.

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) read The New Recruit by Andy McNab , ended up rating it 4 stars. now thinking of reading Leviathan (Leviathan, #1) by Scott Westerfeld

Those both sound good. Especially Levianthan. Let us know how it is.

message 517: by Alisa (new)

Alisa I'm reading Oliver's Hunger (Scanguards Vampires, #7) by Tina Folsom which I'm enjoying. It was weird at first because this character's been in every book in the series & all of a sudden she comes w/this new plot for him with no set up. He's always been the good guy now not so much.

Also listening to Medium Raw A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook by Anthony Bourdain (thank you Dawn) I'm soooooo slow at audio books though I probably won't finish this for months.

I'm going to read Kitchen Confidential Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly by Anthony Bourdain next. I've been wanting to read it for awhile & just realized I could get it free w/my Prime membership. Yay!! Just downloaded it last night.

will do - though so far i can tell you Levianthan is one of the best sci-fi books i'v read.
you know how sometimes in sci-fi the authors can go a little... out their in their discriptions? well Levianthan has little drawings ever now and then to help you figure out exactly what the "thing" looks like. lol. very helpful indeed.

How is Unwind? I keep looking at that book. Unique plot concept. Is it any good?

message 527: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) I'm only 26% in, although I'm liking it, the changes in POV were a smart move from the author, the concept is so unthinkable that I'm drawn to the book and scandalized by it at the same time. The nonchalant way that people deal with the process and the politics is almost crude. Kinda like the fight to the death issue in the hunger games.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Alisa wrote: "How is Unwind? I keep looking at that book. Unique plot concept. Is it any good?"

Time to get back from UF Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop And One Last Thing ... by Molly Harper Kitty's Big Trouble (Kitty Norville #9) by Carrie Vaughn Salt Sugar Fat How the Food Giants Hooked Us by Michael Moss

message 533: by Alisa (new)

Alisa I finished God Save the Queen (The Immortal Empire, #1) by Kate Locke which I thought was really good. Will definately be reading the other books in the series. I got sidetracked a little and read Wallbanger by Alice Clayton which was great. I don't usually read contemp romance but I had heard a lot about this book. It lived up to the hype. It was hysterical and was a great romance story. Despite it's greatness I can only dwell in the "real" world for so long. Back to PNR. I'm starting Burning Alive (Sentinel Wars, #1) by Shannon K. Butcher

the idea is fantastic, just at the start theres a lot of tech jargon (which to me was a tad confusing, until i got the hang of it) and some other stuff that was somewhat necessary i just found it a tad boring, but my house mate read it the day before me and loved it.

Alisa April is my month to get caught up on all the series that everyone else but me has read. I'm trying to at least read the first book or two in each this month. So far I read A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2) by Kresley Cole No Rest for the Wicked (Immortals After Dark, #3) by Kresley Cole I liked them both. I am now reading Burning Alive (Sentinel Wars, #1) by Shannon K. Butcher which I'm also enjoying a lot.

I started it once before and couldn'tget into it. But I had a lot of people tell me therest of the series is really good. I'm now over half way through and I'm enjoying it a lot more then the first time. Enough that I will read the next one.

Alisa I just finished Burning Alive (Sentinel Wars, #1) by Shannon K. Butcher it was blah for me. I liked the unique world she created but I didn't like the heroine. Not even a little. She was one of those ones where you keep hoping the bad guy will actually get them. I will probably try the next book because I hear the series gets much better. Not going to be on the top of my tbr list though.

I was then cruising through my kindle trying to decide what to read & I came across The Queen Is Dead (The Immortal Empire, #2) by Kate Locke I had no idea I had it (one of the many signs that I need to go to book rehab). It must have been on sale awile ago or something? (& yet another sign I need to go to book rehab). I'm quite happy about this development so I will probably be starting this tonight.

Sandra | 4734 comments Just finished Wolf with Benefits (Pride, #8) by Shelly Laurenston whilst I know a few of you thought it was hard to keep track of the characters, I still enjoyed it.

It was strange. Every character. including from the Magnus Pack, made an appearance or was mentioned, yet it all made sense.

It was like real life, where you know a lot of people and some of those people know other people who know some of the people you know. Overall, I found it quite well done. Plus that bit towards the end with Miki & Connall & the computer geek daughter was hilarious.
