I want to read Teardrop and it will be my first Lauren Kate books but then I read the blurb and the main character's name is Eureka? I don't think I want to read it anymore.

That's funny! I'm sure there's worse names! It would be funny in bed though!

Lol, I don't know whether America Singer is worse or not but I tend to pay attention to character names. If I don't like their name, I often don't read the books.

I told my boyfriend that the girl who plays ugly betty was called america and he didn't believe me. he told me 'nobody is named America!'. He was wrong.

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments It always makes me laugh when people are called after places.
The last time i seen someone in a book with the name "London" i kept laughing, because i kept thinking of people named "Birmingham"
You'd die of shame if you were called that.

I remember there was an article in the sun a few years ago about a couple in australia who had had their children taken off them by child protective services after they had named them 'bedroom', 'kitchen' and 'toilet'. what were they on?

message 3457: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments Seriously?!

Imagine asking one of them where the other is.

"Kitchen, where's Toilet?! "He's in the bedroom"
"No, not Bedroom. I'm looking for Toilet"

Or shouting "Toilet!" when you've lost him at the shops.

message 3458: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments I remember an article a few months ago, where someone who loved facebook named her daughter "Like"
And someone name their son "Hashtag" because they loved twitter.
Ridiculous.

That is nuts! My next door neighbour told me a year ago how a friend had named this kid 'Bo' and I said 'B-E-A-U?', and she said 'No, B-O'
I was like - they named their kid 'Body odour'?

message 3460: by Tati (new)

Tati Isn't that the name of the kid in Monsters, Inc.? Still, a bit of an odd name.

The kids at school are going to take the micky. they're going to say he stinks or something.

message 3462: by Tati (new)

Tati Yeah, kids can be really mean when they want to... (And I had no idea that BO also stands for Body Odour)

message 3463: by Rachmi (new)

Rachmi | 4882 comments My senior high school friend's name is Happy New Year. I'm Indonesian and when I was at school English isn't a language that I have to learn but still I find it is an odd name. When I asked his name and he told me, I was like "huh, are you serious?"

message 3464: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments How about all these celebs kids names?

Jamie Oliver's and Bear Gryll's kids names are ridiculous.

Jamie Oliver's Oliver's are called
Poppy Honey Rosie Oliver
Daisy Boo Pamela Oliver
Petal Blossom Rainbow Oliver
Buddy Bear Maurice Oliver

Emma (foreverlookingforward) | 108 comments I'm just thinking our generation are most likely going to call our kids after book characters ... So there is going to be a class full of katniss' and peeta's and Ky's (matched) Xander's (matched) and other fandoms :/ and our parents are going think that they are wired names :3 I mean in Victorian tune there was some people called their kids Toilet :/

message 3467: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments I love Katniss's character, but there is no way i would call my child that.
You know fair well what their nickname would be.
Ha ha.

Did you like Fallen?

message 3476: by Tati (new)

Tati Nope, but I persisted reading that series until Passion. Then, I decided it was not worth it to spend time with the fourth book.

message 3477: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments I thought Fallen was okay at the time, but it got worse with every book.
I read Fallen when it first come out though, i'm sure i'd hate it now.

message 3478: by Tati (last edited Oct 30, 2013 09:57AM) (new)

Tati I got it as a gift from the publishing house I kinda worked for, but I disliked it, and it was such a sales success here in Brazil... Goes to show that the fact that a book is a bestseller doesn't mean it's good.

message 3479: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90920 comments Mod
I was really disappointed with it. I finished it an immediately listed it for sale on amazon. i got another copy about a year ago from a car boot sale for 20p and thought i'd give it another try. don't think i'm going to bother now though!

message 3480: by Tati (new)

message 3484: by Tati (last edited Oct 30, 2013 12:28PM) (new)

Tati I know it doesn't help, but I'm not looking for a specific type of book. They just have to seem interesting.

Anyway, I'm going through your to-read shelf LOL

Rosal May Ruda (rmruda) | 11 comments I had really this funny experience resulting from my book addiction.

I was walking down the narrow alley reading a book, intensely, and I had not noticed that I veered off course until I heard a splash and a squish. And I was like, WTH? And I look down, not a bit surprised when I found my foot at the drainage. I promised that very day not to read and day dream while walking.

I was drooling over the hot guy in the book.. I tend to space out, too. So when people ask me questions, it usually takes seconds to shake off my stupor.
