Hello Nick! so kind of you to show interest in my book, it's called "The Songs of the Gods" you can find it in Amazon ( I am not sure if posting links here is encouraged), either paperback or Kindle format. I translated it my self from Greek and it was not easy because my English level is very poor, especially compared with my Greek level :D

Well in every day conversations I guess I am ok but translating poetry is a whole different thing, I do try my best though, so nice of you ;)

I don't know if posting links is encourage either, but I can't find it on amazon, so you'd better post. I guess we can ask the group if that's okay. If not send it to me as a personal message on my page.

Erin (ems84) | 2669 comments Hi everyone. I just became a member to this site yesterday and I would already call myself an addict, haha. I am a big Stephen King fan. I don't know how it all started, it seems I have been collecting his books for as long as I can remember. I am glad I came across this group today.

Claire Birrell (cbbizza) | 1 comments Hi all. I'm Claire, but my friends call me Bizza. I first started reading Sai King when I was 12 and it all started with Christine being recommended to me by my local librarian. I have two young girls so don't get as much time to read as I would like, but they are worth it. I have most of his books but find that some are very difficult to get, but that doesn't stop me from trying.

Hi Bizza, I think you'll enjoy the conversations here. I know I do.
Aren't there a lot of used versions of almost everything King wrote available on amazon for next to nothing? I'm sure you looked there, but try again. Also thanks for mentioning Christine. I think was a great place to start. A terrific book and great descriptions of wintertime which King has stopped talking about over the last few decades. Guess his winter home if FLA has made him forget.

Stacey | 2 comments Hello, I'm Stacey and Stephen King is one of my all time favorite authors. I've been hooked since I read IT when I was 12. I've read almost all of his books and it is my goal to do so. I am eagerly waiting for Dr. Sleep to be released! I have not yet read the Dark Tower series so that is also next on my must read list.

Glad you're here, Stacy. Wonder if there are any references to the dark tower in Dr. Sleep. Guess we'll find out pretty soon. Good luck with the tower series. Be interesting to know what you think of that controversial book 4. Also, there's a pretty hot discussion going about the last book. But stay away from there till you get through it all. There are lots of spoilers.

I think the early pages of Cujo... the little boy with the real monster in his closet... are still the scariest thing I ever read in my life.

Josephine Nolan (filmsandbooks) | 17 comments Hi, I'm Josephine, editor at Films & Books zine (http://filmsandbooks.com). I am a long-time fan of King's work, from earliest to today's great works. Hi all

message 168: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Hi, Josephine. Welcome. So, what are your most and least favorite King works?

message 169: by Josephine (new)

Josephine Nolan (filmsandbooks) | 17 comments Hi Nick, Favorite of all time, no matter how many of his works I read and appreciate remains The Stand, which I know doesn't make SK happy because it's one of his early works. It's my benchmark. Under the Dome, which I recently finished, felt like it mirrored aspects of The Stand, mixed with a bit of Lord of the Flies -- I enjoyed it a lot, even though not every reviewer agreed. I'll be reviewing Doctor Sleep imminently, and really look forward to revisiting an old friend from The Shining (problem with my reviews on SK, they're slightly biased:) I'm eagerly anticipating 11-22-63, which I put aside as a personal book to review new releases, but I have great hopes there. I really practically grew up on his older works, which I still reread from time to time, including 'Salem's Lot, Dead Zone, Carrie (probably among the most iconic and still a classic), Green Mile ( a hugely memorable read). I even liked Firestarter, Cujo, etc.
I've had trouble getting into the Dark Tower world, even though it borders and overlaps with all King's work. That first book, Gunslinger, just stops me cold, which is most bizarre considering how much I like King (and fantasy, I'm a big fan of several fantasy epics). I'm going to try again, I keep promising myself.
Among my least favorites (doesn't mean I didn't like them) was Cell and a few of the shorter works. Pet Cemetary was brilliant, but hard to read for me.

I read the stand and under the dome and then listened to the audio books too. I liked the stand much better the second time through. Now it's right up there near the top. 11/22/63: read and listened too. I enjoyed it the first time but liked it even more the second time through. It isn't related to the dark tower but it draws heavily on IT. I think the gunslinger is maybe one of the weakest of the dark tower books. They get better immediately after that. Blast your way through that gunslinger, then enjoy the others.

message 171: by Josephine (new)

Josephine Nolan (filmsandbooks) | 17 comments Thanks Nick, I'll try that on Gunslinger, it's short anyway. And I know SK was 19:) My friends all rave about it.

message 172: by Shell (new)

Shell (shellcampbell) | 341 comments Welcome Josephine!

I agree with Nick, if you can get through The Gunslinger, I think you'll find you'll enjoy the rest. If you're a King fan, the DT books are so worth reading IMO :)

Sam Phillips (spoook) | 34 comments Hi!

My name is Sam. My favorite Stephen King book is Insomnia. I actually enjoy most of his books, that are not about aliens.

I also perform magic, and his novels inspire my presentations.

I really enjoy how his novels play off each other. I often wonder just how far King's experiences with the paranormal reach. How far down the rabbit hole did he go?

Hi Sam. Based on my readings of his non-fiction, it doesn't sound like king is too into actually exploring the paranormal. Not like, say Arthur Conan Doyle who hired scientists to prove the existence of ectoplasm and ghosts. Don't think king tried to contact dead relatives as the Sherlock Holmes author did.

message 180: by Michael (new)

Michael Hello. Mn name is Michael. I read my first Stephen KIng book when I was about nine. I 'borrowed' my mother's copy of "Salem's Lot,' read it in secret, then got so scared after lights out that I threw up in my bed. I was fortunate to attend the University of Maine back in the late 80s where I got to read a few of his (then) unpublished books, like "Blaze" and "Aftermath" and "The Sword in the Darkness." So that was cool. My fraternity brothers and I used to go to his house in Bangor on Halloween and check out all the action. I actually bumped into SK, literally, at the movie theater in Bangor one Saturday afternoon way back when, but I was too tongue tied to say anything intelligible.

I think I have read all of his books with the exception of "Blockade Billy" (because I could care less about sports) and "Black House," which I have tried to read three times. "Dr. Sleep" should be here tomorrow!

message 182: by Ken (new)

Ken | 2 comments Hi everyone - I'm Ken, I live in beautiful Western Australia and I've been hooked on King for about 30 years. Favourite books? The Stand, The Talisman, The Tommyknockers and the Dark Tower Series.

More recently I quite like 22.11.63 which I thought might have been his best for some time. I remember many years ago a few close friends and I were 'slightly' drunk one stormy night (there may have been other substances involved) and at some point we ended up with flashlights looking for 'Bob Gray' in the big shed out the back of the farmhouse where one of the boys was living. Fun times.

Jeremy Hanes (jerjoe76) Good Morning, my name is Jeremy. Long time reader of King. I feel like I was reading King before I even read See Jane Run books. So happy to find this group. Looking forward to lots of conversations about the works of Stephen King. Hello all.

message 185: by Matt (new)

Matt (batteryacid) Hello group. My name is Beth and I've just started my A levels (English Lit, English Lang, Philosophy and Ethics, for those interested). Mr King got me first interested in books outside of the TA section so for that I am thankful. My Dad passed on all his novels to me so I feel like a small part of him has been passed to me. I can't wait to give The Stand (my first read of King's) onto my child so they can discover it and hopefully enjoy it as much as I did:) Nice to meet you all!

message 186: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany King (tifking73) Hi Everyone!
I am looking forward to reading many more Stephen King books and meeting new people along the way. I am currently reading Under the Dome. I have a B.S. Degree in Biology and am currently working on an M.S. Degree in Public Health. I work as a QC Lab Tech at a pharmaceutical company in Indiana. I usually read books in the horror, thriller, suspense, sci-fi, and classic genre. However, I am open to any book that might interest me. I hated reading when I was younger, but now I love it. I look forward to many interesting discussions in this group.

message 187: by Josephine (new)

Josephine Nolan (filmsandbooks) | 17 comments Hi Tiffany. Under the Dome was a great book, hopefully you'll love it. I highly recommend Doctor Sleep, which just released, if you like King. I just finished and it's a masterpiece. Nice to meet you!

message 191: by Sebastien (new)

Sebastien | 15 comments Hello all !

I am Sebastien, from France. Started reading King when I was around 9, and ended up bumping into IT. I still have nightmares today. I have always been particulary keen on King's intro words and his characters helped me ask me some good questions growing up. I have been a bit dispapointed by his last works, particularly Under the Dome that lacked any special ideas out of the pitch. My favourites are Wizard and Glass (because Cuthbert mainly) and Hearts in Atlantis that was my first understanding that King was a bit more than a guy with good ideas, he was a true writer. Additionaly Hearts made me like more the 'realistic' King, even though I still favour its more fantastic stories. I am still looking forward to read his new books, hoping he can hook me up like he did with IT, Shining or even Girl who lover Tom Gordon (crazy bear thing !) and also Desolation...Out of King I like mainly sci fi (like Charles Wilson) and fantasy (but without elves or dwarves), and I really dislike the new vampire/zombie endless girlie series. I look forward to exchange with all of you people !

message 192: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Olds | 27 comments Hello my name is Dan. I've been actively looking for a local reading group in my area with similar reading interests. With little success I thought I would look on Goodreads and found this group. I am a huge Stephen King fan. I like horror, realistic fiction, some sci-fi, and anything that keeps me up late reading. I am looking forward to reading some good books and having thought provoking discussions.

message 193: by Aditya (new)

message 195: by Mike (new)

Mike Parnell Hello, I'm Mike. Read Cujo in 1982 when I was 10 (I wasn't supposed to read King, but I checked it out of the library and told my mom it was Lloyd Alexander as I hurried by). Hooked ever since, including his son Joe Hill - I love how they reference their previous works in each other's books. Joyland and 11/22/63 are great examples of how good an author, not just a horror author, Stephen King is. Great to be here in this group, I'm 100 pages into Doctor Sleep.

Bob | 2 comments Hey everyone,
Just a short intro here. My name is Bob and I will admit I am an avid Stephen King fan. I have been since the beginning. I remember staying up late, very late many nights reading books like Carrie, Cujo, and many of his other earlier classics. If a book came out under his name, I bought it. To this day, he still ranks as on of my favorites. In fact I just finished Joyland.

message 198: by Terri (new)

Terri | 41 comments Hi I'm Terri, I've been a member of this group for a so I thought I should introduce myself. I love to read horror, post apocalyptic, and dystopian. The only King that I have read is The Stand but I have It and Pet Sematary sitting on my bedside waiting to be read and looking forward to reading a lot more.

message 199: by Carol (new)

Carol Greenspan | 6 comments Hi, Terri: I tried reading The Stand on two occasions and for some reason just couldn't finish it - too depressing and downbeat. I am just starting Justin Cronin's The Passage and while also about the end of the world, find it much better written and more intriguing than The Stand.
BTW, I think you'll really like It, it was one of the first SF books I ever read and couldn't put it down. Other SF books I really enjoyed are Salem's Lot, Desperation, The Shining, and Cell. I'm looking forward to reading Dr. Sleep, the sequel to The Shining.
