Adrian Hawkins So how does the discussion work? I know it can't be in real time but just wasn't sure how this works. Excited to read NOS4A2.

Brad Cundiff | 1 comments Hi! I'm Brad and I'm a lifelong fan of Uncle Steve.

That sounds a bit like the first step in recognition of an addiction, but it's one of which I'm proud. I devour just about anything King writes. I first read The Stand when I was 13 or 14 (borrowed my older brother's copy for an entire summer) and have since read everything in the King universe.

My favorites are the classics - It, The Stand, 'Salem's Lot, The Shining, DT series - as well as a few of the lesser lauded ones - Cell and Gerald's Game.

Looking forward to sharing my love for King's work with like-minded Constant Readers.

Cynthia (cynwes) | 6 comments Hi ! I'm Cyndi and I'm addicted to Stephen King! Everytime I read a new SK book the only thing I dread is coming to the last page! King is on my list of people I would love to meet, but given that will likely never happen I am content to look forward to novel after novel. I also have a passion for literary non-fiction and anything that can give me a new view on old and new subjects. Happy reading everyone!

EDIT: I forgot to say that Hearts in Atlantis is my all time favorite followed closely by IT and Lisey's Story.

Scott | 88 comments Welcome Cynthia & Brad!!

message 105: by Christine (new)

Christine O'Dell Hello, My name is Christine, I'm looking for a great SK book to read. I'm not interested in the horror stories, but the real deep, solid writing that he is known for. Here is what I have read so far: The Stand, 11-22-63, Under the Dome, Joyland, The Green Mile, I've read the 1st 3 books of the The Dark Tower (but I'm taking a break), the Desperation books. I've heard Insomnia is good. What should my next book be?

message 106: by Scott (new)

Scott | 88 comments Christine...maybe Hearts in Atlantis or Lisey's Story

message 107: by Scott (new)

Scott | 88 comments actually...I would say Delores Claiborne instead.

message 108: by Christine (new)

Christine O'Dell Thanks Scott, those will be next on my list. I see that another all-time fave in this group is "It", but I think the subject matter could be tough since it involves kids. Maybe someday...

message 109: by Scott (new)

Scott | 88 comments Christine...good call. 'It" ls great but another biggie. Since youve read The Stand and Dome...Delores is a little more portable. Hope you enjoy!

message 110: by Amber (new)

Amber | 7 comments Hi! My name is Amber. I recently discovered goodreads as I am always looking for something "good to read". (There was my first lame attempt at a joke). I picked up my first S.K. book when I was in 4th grade and stole my mom's copy of "It". I have been and avid reader and fan of his ever since, trying to read every book, short story under his name or his pseudonym. Last year I finished the Dark Tower series and also 1964, solidifying me as a fan forever ;) Looking forward to popping into this group everyone once in a while!

message 111: by Lizearianne (new)

Lizearianne | 1 comments Hello i'm Lize 22 from the Netherlands. I just finished the Dark tower series for the second time and just didn't know what to read next. In my country SK is not that populair so i don't really can discus his work. As an Hugo fan that's more that annoying. I love to read your massages so i joined the group. I can't wait for "Dr sleep" . I just need some books to read for the meantime. (I'm sorry for any incorrect spelling ;) )

message 113: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments I'm Nick Iuppa, I've written 7 horror novels, (e-published one) and I'm an enormous King fan. As of today, because the situation keeps changing, I feel pretty safe in saying that I've read all his novels (including all the Bachman Books). I've read several of them a few times or read them and listened to the audio books too. My favorite is Wizard & Glass, but I also like Salam's Lot, Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Gerald's Game, and even a few that Steven says he doesn't like... like Rose Madder.

message 114: by Ash (new)

Ash (ashie) | 1 comments Hey,
My name is Ashley, I just joined goodreads yesterday. I'm impressed with the website. It seems like I can find out about alot of good books here. As well as keep track of those I want to read. I have always loved reading, and Stephen King has always been my favorite author. Whenever I go to browse the library, (with nothing already in mind) I always find his section first, lol... :)

message 115: by Ian (new)

Ian Mcmillan | 4 comments I am new to Good Reads and am enjoying reading the reviews and suggestions of books by my favourite authors. I am currently re-reading The Shining in anticipation of Dr. Sleep set for release in my area of the world on Sept. 24.

message 116: by Nika ♥Marie♥ (new)

Nika ♥Marie♥ (mylknhoney) Hello All,

I have been reading since I was two. My mom use to read Stephen King to me when she was pregnant with me and continued on until for a long time. Horror and mystery has always been my genre of choice and because of my Mom love for Stephen King he has become my favorite author.

My mom passed in October of last year from cancer so when I want to spend time with her now I pick up one of his classics and read it and it's like she's there with me.

My mom and I had a unique relationship because she did the weird things with me, she took me to see my first horror movie when I was two and I distinctly remember it being a nightmare on elm street film and she said I laughed the whole way through it.

message 119: by Mikela (new)

Mikela Livingston Hi all. I'm Mikela. This is my first day on Goodreads. King is one of my fav authors and now his son Joe has been added to that list. Will be nice to share with other fans.

message 120: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Hi Mikela, welcome. I'm pretty new here myself, but enjoying the conversation a lot. Would be nice to hear your thoughts on your most favorite (and least favorite) King works. Check out the topic lists and let us know what you think.

Nick

message 121: by Thami (last edited Aug 19, 2013 04:52AM) (new)

Thami Mzolo (thamimzolo) H Everyone,
Wow, so many people in this group!
I'm Thami from South Africa. Carrie was the first novel I read when I was 12. Been hooked since then. I've read every single novel except The Wind Through The Keyhole. I'm re-reading The Dark Tower (for the 4th time). I will get to Wind Throgh the Kehole after Wizard and Glass.
Only problem is I picked up NOS4A2 after I finished The Waste Lands last week. So Roland and his ka-tet will have to wait a bit :-)
Glad I found this group!

message 122: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, my name is Rachel and I'm from Auckland, New Zealand. Am a huge fan of Stephen King and been reading his books since I was around 13. I still have to read a couple more of his books to be up to date (I did balk at the sheer size of The Dome).

message 123: by [deleted user] (new)

I meant under the dome - duh.

message 124: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments It's a fast easy read though. Dive in and you'll love it.

message 125: by Rainier (last edited Aug 22, 2013 08:26AM) (new)

Ive read Under The Dome, 11/22/63, The shining, IT, Joyland and I read the first in The Dark Tower series. I couldn't quite get into it though. A few people have said to read the second book as its much better.
:)

message 127: by Rainier (new)

Rainier | 22 comments The second and third book of the Dark Tower series are great as it introduces more characters.

The book is really different to the movie I thought.

message 134: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina Govin | 1 comments Hello...I'm Sabrina. I've been a Stephen King fan for around 30 years. Love his books!! His wife, Tabitha, also is a good read.

message 135: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 1 comments Hello, my fellow book junkies! My name is Ashley, and although I'm relatively new to goodreads, I'm absolutely in love with this site. I just recently started to read Stephen King and have been absolutely elated to find such an expert story-teller. My first exposure to King has been the Dark Tower series- I'm waiting on my copy of Wizard and Glass to get here through an inter-library loan. I can definitely say so far that this series is one of my, if not THE, favorite reads of all time. I'm excited to be a part of this group and to read and discuss the next book on the list, Joyland.

message 136: by Felipe (new)

Felipe Gálvez Valenzuela (er_felipe) | 24 comments Hi! I'm Felipe (26). This is the first time that I post a comment on a group EVER. First of all I have to say sorry about my use of English, I'm from Chile and most of the books I read are in Spanish. Nevertheless, I've been a King fan since a couple of years ago and I can't stop reading his books (although I don't have enough time to read). I hope I can improve my English so I can participate on your discussions on King's books -and maybe other writers that I haven't met yet- Saludos! Un gusto compartir con gente con gustos similares en libros :D

message 137: by Nick (new)

Scott Nicholson (scottnicholson) | 20 comments Hi Ashley, Felipe, and Sabrina!

message 139: by Pj (new)

Pj (MiniBandit) | 4 comments Hi All! I joined GR yesterday and took some time winding around it. I was so excited to see this group come up. I have read King since I was a teen. I have devoured all of his books.

My favorite is The Stand, It, Shawshank Redemption. I was kind of 'meh' on Under the Dome and could not get into the Dark Tower series. After reading some of the comments here though I may should give it another shot. I really look forward to reading more of the threads here and getting different perspectives of his work.

message 140: by Felipe (new)

Felipe Gálvez Valenzuela (er_felipe) | 24 comments :) thanks!! Nick, In case you need some help regarding your hispanic character, don't hesitate on asking me question that you think I can help.

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Felipe wrote: ":) thanks!! Nick, In case you need some help regarding your hispanic character, don't hesitate on asking me question that you think I can help."

Thanks very much, Felipe. The writing's going well right now, but who knows what might come up as we get deeper into the story. You might want to take a look at the first book which is already out, you can preview the early chapters on Amazon for free. The book is called Alicia's Ghost. The sequel is about to go to the proofreader but we still have time to accommodate changes if you think we're wrong about anything.

message 142: by Scott (new)

Scott | 88 comments Felipe..if you havent read Joe Hill's books...worth a read and a fun departure from King.

message 143: by Rainier (new)

Rainier | 22 comments I liked Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill. Not into ghost stories but this one held my interest.

message 144: by Felipe (new)

Felipe Gálvez Valenzuela (er_felipe) | 24 comments Nick, I'll have that in consideration, thanks!
Scott, recently I saw a book called "cuernos" (horns) at 6 dollars at a library, so as soon as I have the money -and the time to go there- ill buy it. Thanks for your recommendation!

message 145: by Felipe (new)

Felipe Gálvez Valenzuela (er_felipe) | 24 comments There aren't many options here in terms of American writers, and if there are, books are quite expensive in Chile. That's way I'm always looking for special offers so I can expand my little book collection :D

message 146: by Kirstie (new)

Kirstie | 5 comments Hey, I'm Kirstie, 22, UK.
I love Stephen King - My favourite book is definitely Cell. I know it seems to have gotten good and bad reviews but I loved it. I'm currently reading the Dark Tower series with The Stand and Under the Dome to come after (or in some downtime between reading the series!).

message 147: by Akolesar (new)

Akolesar | 1 comments Hello! I am Amber and actually just joined Goodreads this evening. I have loved Stephen King's works for as long as I can remember. My mom was a huge fan and I have all of her books - I started with It as a young girl. I have read several books multiple times.

Loved the Dark Tower series. Lisey's Story was hauntingly romantic. Full Dark, No Stars was one of my favorite collection of short stories.

Enjoy, Constant Reader!
