~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I'm throwing an engagement party for my son and his fiance over Christmas at my mom's house in New Orleans, so that has taken precedence over everything. That and obsessing over going to see Les Mis.

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments How's it going Amanda? We haven't heard from you this week. Are you enjoying Sweet Magik?

Amanda A | 723 comments Sorry ladies! It has been a busy and stressful week at work. I can't wait for next week and some time off for the holidays. I will have my book finished by Thursday evening and before the next item is called. I apologize for being such a slacker this week.

I decided to change my book to Branded by Fire (Psy-Changeling, #6) by Nalini Singh . It had the same items I was shooting for in my original pick. Review will be in my next post.

Amanda A | 723 comments Week 2: Body Part - Bone
Branded by Fire (Psy-Changeling, #6) by Nalini Singh
Finished 12/12
4★

I love the intriguing Psy-Changeling world that Nalini Singh has created in this series and this book was another enjoyable installment. Riley, a wolf, and Mercy, a leopard, are leaders from two different packs within the Changeling species and always seem to be at odds with each other. They are thrown together to find a Changeling researcher who was kidnapped from their territory. The tension turns into a sizzling romance that is fun to watch as it develops. I really enjoyed the witty banter between the two and found it funny that Riley always called Mercy "kitty". I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series and can't wait to get to Hawke and Sienna's book.

Snow: "his blood a scarlet flower across the snow" ~ KL 384
Bra: "very aware of the sweat molding her black sports bra to her body" ~ KL 3357
Bone: "pure muscle over solid bone" ~ KL 238
Musical Instrument: "She's closed up tighter than a fucking drum." ~ KL 2638

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Great review, Amanda! I just finished Kiss of Snow, and am reading Tangle of Need this month. So sad to see this end! Hawke's book is every bit as good as the hype!!

It really was a nice diversion. The only bummer was that I was so tired I fell asleep while trying to read in the evening. I love this series too. :-)

Weather: Sunshine

message 118: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments Sunshine is a good call for us since none of us have claimed it yet Of course it puts Amy's target items on hold for another week.

Several teams have already claimed sunshine so that will put us ahead (not that I am the least bit competitve mind you). Have you noticed that 3 teams aren't even on the spreadsheet yet. I wonder where they are?

message 119: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Thanks, Sheila! You must have heard me. I'm just subbing today and they get off next Friday. Finished 12/15

The Bone Bed (Kay Scarpetta, #20) by Patricia Cornwell The Bone Bed by Patricia Cornwell

This is #20 in the Dr. Kay Scarpetta series. I have read all 20 and for some reason I am getting to like the books less and less. It just seems like a lot of this book is spent on Kay's paranoia that those around her are keeping things from her or involved in activities that she feels they shouldn't be. I think I probably gave the first 19 books five stars. This one I am going down to ★★★★.

Sunshine - Sunlight filters through the surface, the water green and clear just below page 105

Bra - The bra underneath is loose around the chest, the cup several sizes too big page 154

Toe - a reddish staining on the shrunken bottom of her toes page 145

Fruit - Benton opens the refrigerator and retrieves a jug of orange juice page 308

message 131: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I think this week I will go for Toe and fruit. Any suggestions on what other words I should look for to help the team?

message 132: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments I'm trying to go for the hardest stuff first. How about hood Leslie. Almost every time I found hood it was talking about a car hood or a criminal or "the hood" as in neighborhood.

message 133: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Ok, sorry Team 4. With the new submitting point system it is going to be too hard to track partial points.

Sheila I can't give you credit for post 127 Sunshine until the whole team gets credit for sunshine. So because I can't give you credit for the post yet I can't give you credit for the bra. If I start just giving credit for some of the items in a post and not all of them I am going get mixed up and end up missing something.

Hope that makes sense.

message 134: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Also, Sheila does your book have a refrence to sunlight or sunshine or the glow or rays of the sun. Your sentence just refrences "sun" it is kind of implied it is because of the light, but the sunshine isn't really mentioned there. I'll take it if it is the best the book has.

message 135: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments Dawn, I wasn't sure how you were doing the uncalled points. Thank you for clarifying. When the whole team has posted, I'll request the sunshine point. Can I repost for the bra point at the same time?

Also I edited my post 127 to use a sunlight reference rather than just sun. I hope that is OK.

Thanks Dawn for a great challenge!

I actually decided to go for hood and found it in my book. Can't do toe because it's in the same group as curly hair (duh).

Amanda A | 723 comments Week 3: Weather - Sunshine
Paradise Valley (Virgin River, #7) by Robyn Carr
Finished 12/15
5★

This is one of my favorite series so I devoured this book in one day. A visit to Virgin River always feels like catching up with old friends. This installment has four stories developing simultaneously, but one of my favorites involved Rick Sudder, who readers have watched grow up over the course of the series so far. He returns from Iraq wounded and feels like he does not deserve the love and support of his friends and family in Virgin River. Robyn Carr always knows how to pull at the heartstrings and she definitely did so with all of the stories in this book.

Sunshine: "A little daily sprinkling and some spring sunshine" ~ KL 3803
Necklace: "that diamond pendant necklace Rick had given her" ~ KL 1328
Tail: "her tail wagged so violently it sent her whole body into a quiver" ~ KL 126
Fruit: Grapes and apples pictured on cover

message 138: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments Amanda, I've never read any Robyn Carr books before but this sounds really good. I'm going to have to find book 1 of the series.

message 139: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I have Virgin River on my TBR for next year. I've heard such good things about this series, and I love books set in small towns and you get to know all the quirky people. Fool's Gold is another good one by Kristen Ashley.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Tangle of Need (Psy-Changeling, #11) by Nalini Singh
Week 3: SunshineTangle of Need 12/17/12 *****stars
Sunshine (p211 the bright Sierra sunshine)
Curly hair(p.48 curly blond hair)
Fruit(p.72 bottles of fruit juice)
Hood (p.425 pulled back the hood of his cloak)
Review
Wow! I loved this book. Everything that has been happening is coming to a head and the tension is ratcheting up. Hawke and Sienna are also a main focus of this story and their relationship continues to grow. But the main focus is on Riaz and Adria, who is Aunt to Indigo. She is a dominant wolf who was in a poor relationship with a less dominant male and she is very scarred by the experience. Riaz is a lone wolf who met his mate, but she is married to another. He has come back to the pack to heal and when he meets and gets to know Adria, there are many sparks. Their struggles to overcome those obstacles is absolutely riveting. So many paranormal romances focus on the concept of a mating bond between a couple and the question always arises about free will to choose a partner. Nalini Singh answers that question in this book and she answers it definitively. Beautiful story.

message 142: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Well, this is the last book in the series until sometime later in 2013. It's been an amazing series to read. I have loved all of them. But I agree, these team challenges are rough on my TBR and my budget LOL!

message 143: by Sheila (last edited Dec 17, 2012 11:23AM) (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments I always pay pretty close attention when someone rates a book 5 stars or uses the word WOW in their review. Also Leslie congratulations on finding both Curly hair and hood in the same book.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 675 comments Sheila wrote: "Oh Great, another great book report! This is NOT helping me reduce my tbr one bit guys."

My tbr list is endless. It doesn't help when I work at my public library and I'm surrounded by all the books. Also, hopefully, I'll have my sunshine book finished by tonight or tomorrow, we shall see how it goes!

message 145: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I was pretty amazed as well, Sheila. I also found grapes and truck for the Words with friends team challenge! Great book all the way around LOL!

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 675 comments Arise (Hereafter, #2) by Tara Hudson

Finished: December 17th
Rating: 4 stars

Review:
I wasn't as crazy about the first book in this series when I read it last year, but book two was a lot better in my opinion. The story had more action and the characters were more likable too. I can't wait to see how this trilogy concludes when the third and final book releases in June 2013!

Items:
Sunshine: Although the windows were shut tight against the cold, all the shutters lay open, flooding the room with sunshine. (Page 272)

Glasses: His light-brown hair was so short, I'd be hard-prssed to call it anything but a buzz cut, and I could barely see his eyes through the glint off his wire-rimmed glasses. (Page 91-92)

Elbow: I propped myself up on my elbow, glanced over his shoulder at his bedside clock, and fell back onto the bed beside him. (Page 17-18)

Emergency vehicle: "We think you've been poisoned-we're calling an ambulance right now." (Page 321)
