Charlotte Durkin | 46 comments It sounds like many of you are quilters. Wonderful to find like-minded souls in the world! I keep telling my husband that I have no serious vices (don't smoke, don't drink much alcohol), so if I spend money on fat-quarters and books, he shouldn't mind!

Janice, I really like the way you used the background fabric into the border. It makes the secondary design in the center really pop! BTW, I have a UFO from the very first quilting class I ever took, some 25 years ago. I chose the quilt as you go method, and while all of the sampler blocks are quilted, hand-sewing all of them together has not been on the top of my list!

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments Thanks Charlotte. It's great to have another quilter in the group. Books and quilting go hand in hand. Judy listens to audiobooks while she quilts. I haven't tried that yet.

Sarah | 18549 comments Just got back from my first quilting and patchwork course - thought I'd post here what I made. I'm pretty pleased with them considering they are my first attempts at patchwork.

Nice, I especially like the cushion.

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments Impressive Sarah! You did a great job of matching your points. Half square triangles are not an easy block to start with!

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments You all make such beautiful things! The quilts are amazing, there must be so much time invested in them. Awesome!

I started crocheting. My aim was to make amigurumi animals, I bought a box for beginners to do it, but they assume at least basic knowledge of stitches and I had no clue how to even start a stitch. So I watched some youtube videos and practiced stitches on the couch for a couple of evenings. Took out another colour of wool, got extremely frustrated (turns out the wool was not very suitable for crocheting), quit for a few weeks, and then I bought a box containing everything to make a little owl.

And here it is:

It has one larger wing and one larger ear and well, some more issues. But I made it by just doing it and not doing things 10 times over when I wasn't completely satisfied, just to see what I could create. And for someone who has two left hands and never made something creative in her life, I don't even think it's too bad ;-)

message 163: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Awww, he's so cute! And your "issues" just give him more character. I think you did a great job for a beginner!!

message 164: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Love the owl Peggy. I think you've done fantastic. What's next?

message 165: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I love it Peggy! You did really well! :)

message 166: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh, he is sweet! You did good, Peggy. I found that crocheting little animals needs more "freedom" to assume their unique characteristics. It used to frustrate me that I could not make them perfect and I usually did too much re-work. I will not tell you how many projects I simply gave up on. I am glad you chose to accept his little flaws as your creative perogative and you are happy!

message 167: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks everyone!

Sarah, I think I'll try a pumpkin next. I want to make it for a friend who's from Canada and misses the real Halloween terribly every year. It's quite small so I hope I can finish in time :) And after that a cute little mushroom and a cute little snowman.

message 168: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5190 comments That's great Peggy. Most would a scarf as a 1st piece. You took the challenge. Out of curiosity, if you do not mind. What do you mean by real Halloween?

message 169: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments The Halloween like it's celebrated in Canada and the US, where people decorate their homes on the outside and dress up and go trick or treating.

Here (in the Netherlands) I think 80% of people don't even know when Halloween is. You can find some Halloween-candy in some supermarkets if you go look for it, and there might be some Halloween-themed party organized somewhere, but it's nothing compared to North America.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I've also made a tiny bee and a dog to surprise my sister. Crochet is so much fun!

message 176: by Snoozie Suzie (new)

Snoozie Suzie (snooziesuzie) | 937 comments I've just finished sewing up the knitted dogs hat I made for small! I have two animal hat books, but used a mish-mash of different patterns to get it how I wanted it and the right size for him (and to last more than one winter). I haven't photographed it yet but when I do I will try to link in in here. I'm rather pleased with it.

I now need my sister to measure her youngest daughters head so I can knit her a mouse hat. I have been waiting months for this one itty bit of info, so for now I am knitting a Flopsy the Bunny soft toy instead.

message 177: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks everyone!

Those hats sound supercute already Suzie, I hope you can upload some pics!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments Ralph's the best, so that sounds great Suzie.

I'm so impressed Peggy. I've never got the hang of crocheting. I cant get it to work at all. Everyone, especially my Mum, tells me it's the easiest thing in the world, but i can't do it. I shalt complain too much really, as thanks to tailor/needlework artist Mum I've learnt many other skills. But it's so frustrating!!

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11456 comments Debra's at work right now, so I'm posting her masterpiece.

The Blue Heron and the Red-Winged Blackbird play significant roles in Debra's and Jeff's lives. Maybe she can elaborate later...or not!

You and Cherie may remember months ago when I was testing out photographs for an art project. You caught it seconds before I deleted it. This is the result of that experiment.

You weren't suppose to see this!

message 192: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments If it wasn't so expensive I'd be doing these mosaic classes every week. I loved doing it. 20 hours worth of work, not to mention the agonizing over what to actually do.

I'm very happy with the results and think both Almeta's and mine turned out better than we thought. We suck at acrylic painting, but aren't bad at putting together mosaic puzzles! Our teacher was pleased. That was awesome!

I love the Crochet Peggy =D is it easy to do? Harder or easier than knitting do you know?

Beautiful Glass Mosaic work Debra and Almetta =]

message 200: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments I really like yours, too Debra! There was a time that I thought I might like to try this art. It really appeals to me. That, or stained glass. Similar.

You should both be proud of your accomplishments.
