Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments Judy wrote: "Lovely, Janice. You do beautiful work! FYI to non-quilters, Janice's pattern is not an easy one. It is not easy to get all the points in a star to line up perfectly time and time again."

Ahem! This quilt won't bear close inspection. There are a lot of points that got chopped. We were talking about it and decided that if someone was looking at the quilt to see if all my points were perfect, they were being anal. I commented, "Besides, it's none of their business!" To which, one of my friends burst out laughing. Maybe it had to be one of those "had to be there" moments. LOL!

But, in the scheme of things, there is so much going on in this quilt, that once it's done and all put together, nobody is going to notice the booboo's.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I love your centre piece. I immediately see Fall, and feel like all the beautiful colors of Fall are around me. My mom did quilting, so I have an idea of the work involved.

April | 970 comments WOW, Janice! I am speechless! You do amazing work! I admire quilters. I do have some idea of the amount of work involved. Your quilt is going to be beautiful! I hope you post pictures of the finished product! Are you making the quilt for someone special?

message 58: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments Thanks April. This one is a keeper. It cost too much, and I've put in too many hours to give it away -even to someone special. I'll be sure to post a picture when it's completed.

message 59: by April (new)

April | 970 comments Janice, About 7 years ago, I taught myself to crochet. I have made afghans for my nephews, my parents, my brother, my cousins, my daughter......but I haven't made one for myself. I keep meaning to, but I just haven't got around to it. And, I do understand the expense! If I want to make a quality afghan/blanket, I need quality yarn. They are expensive and very time consuming! It's so nice that you are making a quilt for yourself! I haven't crocheted for about a year, but I'm starting to get the bug for it. However, it will have to wait until we are moved and settled. If that ever happens, I will be sure to post pics. here.

Thanks Kimberly!

Kimberly | 2033 comments I made this choker and earring set last night...I finally found all my beads that I thought got lost in our move last year. I'm a bit rusty so I'm going to stick to basic designs like this for a bit.

Kimberly | 2033 comments Thanks Ladies!
@Judy No, I didn't make them as a gift the choker was a trial run since I'm rusty. I'm making another one with longer strands of wire so I can wear it :)

@Chelsea I've always loved beading and when I was 16 a bead shop opened up about 20 minutes from my house with huge discounted prices so thats what got me started. I'm still like a kid fooling around with bead patterns but I'm hoping to make more professional looking pieces :)

I made these last night and today :)

Sorry if I'm scamming the folder it's just nice to have a spot to show off what I made. I'm going to be opening my own etsy store this week to sell some of them!

Oooo, Kimberly, looks like you are off to a great start.

Do you have any DIY books to recommend?"

I've never used any books but I've heard

Bead Simple Essential Techniques for Making Jewelry Just the Way You Want It by Susan Beal is a great book for starting out.

message 76: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Wow, Kimberly, they look great! I used to love beading - I had boxes and boxes of beads, which I believe are now stored somewhere in my dad's garage - if he hasn't thrown them away!

Good luck with your Etsy store!

message 77: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments It's been a long time since I got my crafty hands out, but last weekend I thought I'd take a break from reading and made this: Untitled
It still needs backing, but I couldn't be bothered unpacking the iron yet!

Kat I love it! Its so cute! Was it hard to do?

message 79: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Thanks Kimberly! This one was pretty easy, I completed it over two evenings. Now I'm onto some much bigger ones - I'd forgotten how addicted I get to cross-stitch!

message 80: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Very nice Kat! Is it a book mark? Amy and I do counted cross stitch too, but neither of us is very into it right now. I used to do it a lot, but I get board easily and cannot remember the last time I finished anything. Amy's stuff is all at my house because she did not have anywhere to store her things after her last son was born. Someday we will get back to it.

message 81: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments I used to do a lot of cross-stitch and have a few unfinished projects. One is from 1992... I know that because it's a sampler and the verse reads (in part) "Wrought by the hand of Jan, in 1992".

Someday....

message 82: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments That's so pretty Kat.

I too have several unfinished cross-stitch projects. I really should try and finish the Christmas ornament ones. I'm not even sure where they are :)

message 83: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments I made these Yesterday (Darren took me to the bead store!)

My favourite is the book hook :)

message 84: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments I started when I was about 9 years old - there's boxes of completed ones stored in Australia. I hadn't done it for several years, and for some reason the other night I remembered I had the kit upstairs.

As soon as I finished the bookmark I went an unearthed an old unfinished one and started it up again. Hence the reason I only read one book last week!

I actually made some cross stitch bookmarks for Christmas one year.......hmmmm, maybe I should go dig through my stuff at my mom's

April | 970 comments I'm in the midst of packing up our home of 11 years. So....I have made a HUGE MESS!!

message 89: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Cann't be too bad after only 11 years, April. You should see what 35 looks like! I really need to start getting rid of stuff. My girls want to move out of the country rather than help me go through the garage shelves.

message 90: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments Hehehe... we're all going to be unearthing those unfinished cross-stitch projects. If it gets quiet in here, I'll know what's going on.

Cherie, this entire situation is a mess. Last March, my parents and my husband and I decided to move out of state. My parents have lived in their home for 32 years. We packed up a lot of stuff to put in storage and list their home. OMG! It was terrible!!!
Now we are packing my home, putting most in storage and will live with my parents until their house sells. Once that happens, we will pack again! AND, if we don't find the house we want, we may have to rent for awhile which would mean moving 2 more times. AGGGG!!! I shouldn't be complaining so much. Once this is all over and done with, we will all be so much happier. :)

message 92: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh, April, I wish I could give you a huge hug!

I do not want to think about moving or packing. I will help Amy with her stuff when she finally gets ready to move to Canada and get my boxes out of her storage unit. We have been talking about it for about 2 years now, and haven't done a thing.

message 93: by April (new)

April | 970 comments Thank you, Cherie. Really, I will feel better in a couple of weeks. Afterall, we are fulfilling a dream to have the family all in one location.

When is Amy moving to Canada? And where are you now? That will be difficult for you!

We are in Oregon. The boys and I are just waiting for the government to do whatever it is they do with all the paperwork we sent off. The move should happen sometime this summer assuming all goes well. And yes, its going to be difficult for both of us.

We will be moving to Edmonton, my husband works for intact insurance there.....although we have discussed him transferring to Calgary to be closer to my oldest son in Montana. His sister actually lives in Grande Prairie where you are. That's like 4 more hours north isn't it?

Howdi Neighbor! Actually, I think you mentioned that before. Yes, I'm about 4-1/2 hours northwest of Edmonton. Your sister-in-law lives in Grande Prairie? I might know her.

message 98: by AmyK (new)

AmyK (yakyma) | 1045 comments Yes, I think we talked about it another time before too....lots of threads since then :) Her name is Tanya Dunnett. Wouldn't that be a small world if you did?

message 99: by Janice, Moderator (new)
