Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I love reading about the crafty projects here, and seeing the wonderful photos. Really nice y'all : )

Gave a funny book to cat-loving sis-in-law for her recent birthday, Crafting with Cat Hair: Cute Handicrafts to Make with Your Cat.

Had the desired effect - hysterical laughter :D But I'm betting she'll actually try one or more of the projects.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments Cool, TJ. Never thought about making crafts with cat hair.

message 405: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Laughing at Travis, Rusalka and Lexx. Tp sounds like a useful bookmark. old train tickets are more my thing (to use as bookmarks not to wipe my arse) ;-)

I'm hoping to be able to post a pic next weekend of our solar box for the roof of our boat which my partner is making. I will be contributing by painting it.

CFDeeDee I've been working on a table set for more than 1 year I guess ! I know that is so long ago, but in my defense; I'm lazy ;P
I thought of making it as a 6 pieces set for plates, but then I thought of adding mug wormers or something like that .. But also; I'm lazy ..
So I guess I'll stick with the 6 pieces plate set.
So far I'm working on doily number 5 I guess !
You just have to love crochetig doilies :D

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments OMG Peggy, the monkey and the bear are so cute. I've just got into crochet and I completed my first project, there are some gaps where I can see the stuffing, but for my first project I think it looks cute. He's sitting on my bookshelf. I'm not sure what to call him yet.

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments Thank you =]

It was really fun. I just grabbed a kit from a carft store. I have a few ideas for my next project yes. I want to make a unicorn for my friends baby. I would love to make a granny square. I want to make a xmas teddy with little hat and scarf. Currently I'm following along with a subscription magazine called 'The Art of Crochet' it goes on for 120 issues. I'm on issue 3 so far and you make a giant throw.. this one.. Each week you learn a new square.

I like that name, he does look like a Horatio, what's funny is I was thinking of his name beginning with a H, I thought Hector but didn't know.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I love that throw by the way! I did a crochet-along once to make a blanket, but I quit after week 10... That was 1.5 years ago, and I'm still at week 10 ;-)

I like Horatio and Hector as names. Which is basically no help at all ;) I suck at being decisive!

message 428: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments Hehe, thank you. He is adorable I can't stop looking at him. How about picking it up again Peggy? Do you buy patterns or get them offline?

No I don't know about H'Angus the Monkey, whats that's about Almeta?

I found a really cute pillow dog here

message 429: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Does anyone know of any good craft or repurposing ideas for old phone books? We are cleaning out my mother-in-law's (is it mother's-in-law? that just doesn't sound right) house and I have a good 2-3 foot high stack of old phonebooks. I've googled around for some ideas but nothing has really caught my attention. They are more than likely headed to the recycling bin, but I thought I'd see if anyone here has any suggestions.

message 430: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Have you checked out Pinterest, KimeyDiann?

A couple of links from Pinterest in regards to repurposing phone books :)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11456 comments H'Angus the Monkey is the official mascot of Hartlepool England's United Football Challenge. He gets himself in the news by "running for mayor" and some other not always appropriate pranks.

message 433: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee That is very cute Sarah ❤️.. Try out amineko dolls .. They would look nice along with the monkey

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments This is what I finished this weekend:

The colours are a little brighter than in the picture, but it gives you an idea.

message 445: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments Wow, Janice, such a neat work! How long did it take you?

message 446: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments I started it a year ago at last year's retreat. I did about 18 blocks before I changed my mind about what I wanted to do and the blocks gathered dust for a year.

I spent the day on Thursday ripping the sashing off of the blocks. I then did the remaining blocks, sashing and borders this weekend. It measures 60"x 60" so it's not a big quilt, and if I had started it from scratch on Thursday, I still would have finished it. It still needs to be quilted and bound. It may gather dust for another year. :)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments There's two historical fiction book where quilting is quite important (both in different time and place): The Last Runaway and The Invention of Wings

message 449: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments I've read three of Jennifer Chiaverini's Elm Creek Quilts series - The Sugar Camp Quilt, The Lost Quilter and The Aloha Quilt. They were all quite good and informative. The Lost Quilter dealt with the Underground Railway and the role quilts played.

message 450: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments Sounds interesting. I'll take a look. Thank you.
