I made these mini pine cone Christmas Tree decorations tonight with some left over craft stuff. I think they'll add a bit of colour to our tree :) I might even make more.

Here are some earrings I made on an earring display I made of plastic canvas last year.

Here's my new project I'm working on. Chinese lucky stars. I'm going to fill the jar up for my niece for Christmas...its going to take forever since in the jar in the picture I already have 139 made but I need way more to fill 'er up.

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments Those are awesome, Judy!

message 106: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Those are lovely Judy! Were they hard to make? I love how colourful they are.

message 107: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Oh I love those, Judy! As well as being pretty they're also useful!

I wish I could sew, but alas, my talents lie elsewhere.

Do you sew anything else in particular?

message 108: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Judy wrote: "What are they made of, Kimberly? Very colorful."

They're made out of origami paper :)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Is anyone using Pinterest for craft ideas? I found a whole bunch of craft ideas for the holidays.

message 110: by Kimberly (last edited Dec 07, 2012 09:07AM) (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments It can be hard especially if the paper gets to creased in the folding process then they don't always puff up. But it's pretty easy. I grew up around China town here so I learned how to make them as a kid. Once you get used to it it goes pretty fast. You can use other paper as well. Sometimes people use ribbon or straws (haven't mastered those ways yet).

Thes aren't mine but this is what they look like up close:

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Wow, you guys have been doing so much!

Good luck with the move, April and Cherie.

Ooh, small world, Janice and Amy. :D

Wow, Kimberly, cute pine cones, creative display canvas and beautiful stars. 139? They look nothing like that. Good luck!

Beautiful bags, Judy. Oh, I wish I could order a nightgown, any plans of opening up an e-shop? ;)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments I'm making cathartic Christmas decorations. Take one book you read this year that you do not want to inflict on anyone at a second hand bookshop or charity shop. I recommend anything by Paulo Coelho, particularly The Zahir.

Then do this to it:

Then take tacky christmas baubles and apply the pages to the bauble with wood glue. Cover the outside with more wood glue. Then you end up with these guys:

Use as appropriate. I'm keeping the black ones as is and hopefully making a door wreath. We'll see what it looks like. I'll post it so you can see, even if it's a disaster. If so, I'll pull apart and distribute the baubles around the house. Or what until next year when we may have a tree.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments The Alchemist is short at least. I didn't have that big a problem with it, but was not sure what all the fuss was about. Be very interested to hear your thoughts when you get there.

I started this on Tuesday thinking i could knock it over in a night. SO wrong. One of the Parental Units and 2 of my brothers are coming over on Boxing Day for Christmas round 3, so I need to get it done by then. I should have at least one decoration up in the house.

message 114: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments Also, to be fair I tried to sell this book first back to the bookshop I bought it from a few years ago. They were very adamant that they did not want it back at all, even for free.

message 115: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments As long as my Mother doesn't try to read them. There is a lot about sleeping around, lots of alcohol and I found one instance of marijuana in the first few chapters, and she may not approve of that on Christmas decorations.

That's funny! You don't want to offend your mother. :)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Nice idea, Rusalka. Well, don't kick me out but I do really like The Alchemist.

Kimberly | 2033 comments

I made this or my niece for her birthday.

I used electric tea lights, spice jars, and I used my star shaped whole puncher to fill them halfway with paper stars (I'll post a picture of them later) and some stickers to spell her name. It was only part of her present but she says it's her favourite. High praise from a 16 year old lol :)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Judy wrote: "That is adorable, Kimberly. What did your niece think of it? How old is she? Now that would be a cute idea to sell on your Etsy."

She loved it! She's got it all set up in her room now and yesterday was her 16th birthday. I feel way older than my 22 years now that she's that old. I can't believe time has gone by that fast I remember being there the night she was born I was the first person other than my mom and brother in law to see her.

& I will be selling them on Etsy! My brother is going to help me set up paypal and all that stuff next week sometime.

message 122: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Lol my nephew was born when I was 8 years old too! He was my late birthday present since he was born 8 days later.

I'm on Pinterest. I think the novelty has worn off. I used to visit daily, but now I only pop in when I'm bored or need a picture for a badge.

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments Thanks Judy. This picture is a bit dark so you don't see the true colours. The pattern is called Nigaloo Blooming. We don't have nigaloo here, so I think I'll call mine Daisies Blooming - or something like that.

Amazing sewing skills!
Beautiful pattern work!
Priceless!

You have really created a priceless heirloom for your family, Janice. I adore the pattern and colors. You really do very nice work! : ) Congratulations on the completion of your HUGE project. : )

message 143: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments Thanks everyone. I've decided it's time to finish up some of these projects I have. That one sat for about 3 years with the binding sewn on but not tacked down. I have another, bigger quilt that has been in the same state of being unfinished.

message 144: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Janice, love it. The pattern looks so intricate, I have no idea how you accomplished that! Wow!

message 146: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments My problem is that I didn't work on it continuously. It has sat for years in various stages of completion. I have many more projects on the go.... in various stages of completion. LOL!

message 147: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I think craft projects are like books. Some of them look so good, that you can hardly wait to get started. You buy the book. You buy or find all of the pieces of the craft project. You start to sew, craft, glue, knit, or crochet or you start to read, and suddenly it is not as much fun or interesting as you thought it would be. There is always something else or something different to start on. The great thing is, you can put the book down and read something else, or you can put the project away - and start on something else, or something smaller, or something totally different. And the old project or book will wait quietly for you to discover it again and give it some more attention, some more of your time. Some things just take longer than others to finish. Isn't it wonderful, though when we are done with one?

Janice, the quilt is so beautiful, no matter how long it took you to do it.

message 148: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments You nailed it on the head, Cherie. There's always something exciting to entice one to start a new project.

message 149: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments Or which poor neglected project should be revived next!

message 150: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments LOL! At this point in my life, I need to start getting rid of projects and materials that I will never finish.
