Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments Wow busy morning here, it's 9:20AM and the snow is really coming down here. So glad I have the day off and I can give my Jeep a rest. Looking forward to playing in the snow later when more is on the ground. My son is so excited he woke me up this morning screaming "It's snowing!!!"

Kathryn, so glad to hear you guys had such a great day. You deserve it after a tough week of work.

Janie, I understand getting the bug to just play some games. I have a few on my phone I'm addicted too.

Terri, I understand what you mean, but I consider my self a serious reader because of my love to read whatever I can get my hands on. I won't say I'm well read because I do tend to stick to mysteries and horror novels. I do read some classics and general fiction, but not enough to be well read. Hope you have a great Sunday too.

10:57AM Wow I slept a long time! Did not get up till 9:30 UGH! I hate when I do that. I don't do it often but dang if I do my back is screaming! LOL So now I plan on getting some serious reading done. Later this afternoon we are going to go get the grand blessing so he can stay with us tonight. Tonight is rest day from Insanity YAY!

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments 4:49 p.m. EST Oh, I so needed that. I'm just letting Dmitry sleep, too. He says he has to go in tonight to do "some things" but he can do it after the store is closed. Apparently he is the only one who can do things like change the menu board panels and reprogram the registers... in that case, I'm wondering why they don't pay him a decent wage to encourage him to stick around. *sigh* Anyway, I'll be finishing my book tonight and then I have a 2nd pass on an edit job to do tomorrow. I have three blog tours going on this week: Gateway to Reality, Wildflowers, and the Godling Chronicles, so I need to set up the guest posts I have, and then read the Godling Chronicles. Busy week!

Yeah, I think I'm with you on this, Cindy. I consider myself a serious reader but I think well-read means something different, but I'm not quite sure what (but it probably includes Shakespeare, lol). Check this quiz out from the Christian Science Monitor http://www.csmonitor.com/Books/2012/0...

That's an awesome link! Thanks Chuck. Taking the quiz now but I dare say that I may not be as well read as a 10th grader.

Oh and it's 21:34 and I'm watching Miss Congeniality.

message 2814: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments I'm with Chris on the "serious reader" idea. I just read whatever I can put my hands on, and I read to be entertained and enjoy myself. While I will someday read Shakespear (as an example), I just don't see the point in forcing myself to read something just to say I read it, y'know? *shrug* Of course, people look at me funny when I say I've never read such-and-such a novel, but our high-school English teacher knew how to encourage us to read by having us read popular novels and things we would find fun (mostly), and I think that's probably the best way to approach high schoolers. Sure, throw in some more "traditional" once in awhile, but then even it out with Dune or The Pigman, you know?

5:35 p.m. EST Almost done with all the e-mail that piled up while I was sleeping the day again. It's chilly and humid out; not actually raining, but enough moisture in the air that it feels like it might rain any minute. Sorta reminds me of winter in Portland, OR! Dog has been out, I have my editing manuscript for tomorrow, and soon I'll be back to reading the most excellent Mind Games by Nancy Griffis.

6:45PM And we just got home from dinner and picking up our grandbaby. So now gonna check out GR and then read some more. Gonna finish this book tomorrow, today would be preferable though lol.

I have to say that as far as reading goes. I don't read for a title I read because I enjoy it and whatever books come my way I read them. I won't force myself to read something that does not interest me so I can be called "well read". I think what is the point, because I know when I read a book I am not enjoying I don't retain the info anyway. LOL

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments I have trouble maintaining focus on audiobooks. My brain is always wandering off and then I realize I've missed things. The only way I can listen to an audiobook is while doing something fairly mindless, like putting together a jigsaw puzzle or playing some sort of solitaire on my computer. Heh.

3:55 p.m. EST almost through with my e-mail, then some editing, then probably a short nap, then finish my editing... We'll see what happens!

3:08PM Just got the grandbaby down for a nap. A little peace and quiet for me.

Yea, no way I could audio books sorry guys, I would not retain the information as well. I could be biased though too because there is nothing like a book for me.

message 2835: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments 5:06 p.m. EST GAH! Okay, anyone on here know much about high-capacity MP3 players (120gb at least)? I'm trying to decide whether to go with the Cowon, which I've heard has wonderful sound quality, but horrible customer service, or an iPod, which I've heard has fairly decent customer service, but the newer generations are sorta cheaply made and crappy... I could pick up a Gen 7 iPod with 160gb for about $20 less than a Cowon with 120gb. My husband is pushing for the Cowon, for the sound quality, but I'm terrified I'll use all my gift certificate on this hugely expensive thing and it'll end up being a hugely expensive paperweight, y'know? But I have over 60gb of music already and a lot more to collect, and the 48gb I managed to squeeze onto my SanDisk is not enough of my collection to make me happy. Why doesn't SanDisk make a high-capacity MP3 player? That would be awesome, I know they make good-quality product! Anyway, opinions, anyone? This is distracting me from my editing because I keep arguing back and forth with myself... LOL I was about to go and order the Cowon, but then read the negative reviews and stopped... *pulls on hair*

Yeah, not really important in the overall scheme of things, I know. I still have to figure out how to pay March rent and all our bills but that gift certificate is burning a hole in my Amazon account, y'know? LOL

Okay, lemme finish clearing out the e-mail and maybe I'll sleep on it. I'm so *tired* today...

At first I was terrible at absorbing info when listening to an audio book. I had to train myself how to listen again. Now I listen to books while at work so I can always be reading.

There are times if the book isn't interesting I space and totally miss parts. It happens, but I enjoy them. Audiobooks are not for everyone.

I would go with the iPod because they are very well made and will last a very long time. They are also very user friendly. It also sounds like the better deal because you are getting more storage for less and that is really what you are paying for.

The sound quality on at least the older iPods is great, and now that Apple has the Ear pods headsets, the sound is incredible. I have not used one of the newer iPods but my iPod Classic has lasted for 8 years with no issues. I have been impressed with Apple so I am loyal to their product, but that is just my opinion.

message 2838: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Chris, I've heard that Generation 5 was a really good generation, but the one I'm looking at is a Generation 7, and I've heard about a lot of problems, including the hard drive locking up, general hard drive failure, lines appearing on the screen... One reviewer had his replaced 3 times and kept having the same problems. Another had purchased his a year before and when he started having problems he took it to the Apple store, and they said sorry, can't do anything about this, but we'll give you a 10% discount on a new one... O.O Damn, if I pay $200+ for something, it better last freakin YEARS and not give me problems, y'know? Dmitry has an old one but the battery is dead and he claims it cannot be replaced, the the iPod cannot be opened to replace it or something, but I remember it did work quite well. GAH... *headdesk* But yeah, I've also heard a lot of people with iPods are very happy with them. If I could pick up an older generation, I probably would, but the oldest ones I found were 6th generation, and they were MORE expensive, oddly enough.

iPods will let you use .mp3, .wav and various other types of files, though, right, not just their own type? I have a fairly nice set of EarCandy ear buds that I received through My Coke Rewards, so hopefully they will work for it... meh. Anyway, thanks for the input, that actually does help, despite my dithering... LOL

5:27 p.m. EST SLEEEPY. A bit more e-mail to clear and then I'm taking a nap.

As long as you can import the file to iTunes it will work on the iPod. It isn't hard to import them and it usually does most files like MP3 and wav. The battery can be replaced, I haven't done it yet but I fix Apple stuff as a hobby and I was looking to fix my wife's iPod classic battery and it was only 15$ for a new battery if you do it yourself. Still, not an easy repair and I haven't done that one yet.

Glad some of my info could be helpful, have fun shopping for a new MP3 player. That is always fun in my book..

Tee27 congrats on the new baby. Is this your first.
