i like to leave detailed reviews, not with the mindset that i expect anyone is going to read them or care, but so i can look back on them in the future and decide if i want to reread.
here's how i rate things:
⭐️ - absolutely god-awful (either dnf'd or forced myself to finish)
⭐️⭐️ - terrible plot/ bad writing (forced myself to finish)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - nothing mind blowing but it was alright (this is what i end up rating most things)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - great writing, really enjoyed and would recommend!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - greatest piece of literature known to man, must have evoked a strong feeling (e.g. tears). so far i've only given two 5 star ratings
