Alternately, check out the author's Ruby Red (original title: Rubinrot) from the Gemstone trilogy. A lot of readers prefer that series. Seeing you liked Magic Bites and the Immortals After Dark series, I'm REALLY SURPRISED that you haven't even started on this series. Cole doesn't ever thrust you into a book, she takes you on a journey. While this story does start slow (Cole has a way of making everything has purpose in her books) but by Chapter 13, the game changes, by chapter 29, the ball starts rolling, and by the end, you'll be WTH people? And then you'll most likily be wanting to read the next book (which Last one I promiss.

Now I know you've read one of Eva Langlais book and gave it a one star. However, with her, some times her books are a hit or miss. While I can't say it's truely a PR/UF the world building is pretty much off the charts with this series.
