Welcome to Hell #2

A Demon and His Psycho

Rate this book
Warning:This story centers around a grumpy demon holding onto an ancient vow and a perky psycho (with killer tendencies) who is determined to make him snap. There's cursing, melt-your-screen hotness, messed up religious tropes and snort out loud fun. If you enjoy raunchy humor, sizzling moments and already know you’re going to Hell, then dive on in.

I'm not crazy. I just have anger issues.

With a giggle and an outrageous mouth – perfect for things other than talking – Katie comes flying into Xaphan’s life, upsetting centuries of self-inflicted misery. How can he stay true to the one he lost when a bubbly psycho, with mismatched eyes, keeps consuming his thoughts – and awakening his desire?

So she was a tad bit nuts, Katie’s insanity came in handy as the Devil’s favorite problem solver. But killing’s not on the menu when a dragon goes missing, and worse, Lucifer teams her up with Hell’s grumpiest demon. His rejection of her advances only makes her more determined to seduce him. And despite her violent reputation, a part of her is oddly tempted to let him live.

Welcome to Hell where the rules are always changing, the ash is constantly raining, and Lucifer is watching, waiting to steal your soul…

A Demon and His Psycho by Eve Langlais

Book 2 of the Welcome to Hell series. Paranormal romance with erotic elements. Can be read as a stand-alone.

Irreverent, funny and sexy. Includes lots of demon killing in an offhand, lost count manner. Although there is a competition at one point. Certainly the focus is sex and romance and making that forever connection.
Satan himself, is written from a comedic view, so don’t look for anything serious here.

Bottom line, Satan is successful in his matchmaking and this story is hot. Pun intended.

I listened to the audio version and have a paperback and ecopy. The narration was done by Mindy Kennedy, who did a fabulous job differentiating between the characters. I enjoyed her energy and accent. Mindy made this story pop.

Funny as the first!

I enjoyed this second book to the Welcome To Help series. It was as funny and entertaining as the first book. I loved the contrast between grumpy demon Xaphan and the giggly and perky Katie. But both are extremely dangerous and lethal.

I love how The Devil is basically playing a cupid. Yes, I know it is because he has the intention of creating an army, but it is still cute. I'm hoping as I continue this series that we start to discover his master plan.

This was not only hot but funny too. Katie was too much fun with her wacky answers but she's also witty too. She definitely knows how to get on Xaphan nerves but no matter how much she tries to get his attention.
When Xaphan finds out that he is partnered with Katie to find the missing dragon, he isn't happy but doesn't have a choice. The fun banter between the two is fun but also the extra heat is also hot.

A light fun read, Langlais is good at creating quirky characters and filling her work with humour. Prefer this book to the first - found it to be funnier.

I love this series! I love the thought that Lucifer is playing matchmaker to add numbers to his army. I love the couples that Eve creates. I love the situations that she puts them in to put them together. I enjoy the quirkiness that makes what would seem like a dark book into a humorous read.

Katie is krazy. She not only loves her job as executioner, a job that she excels at, she lives for it. It helps her with her anger issues, which she has plenty of. Katie is not just a little off, she is way out there. Meds to treat psychosis were developed with her in mind. She is also the polar opposite of Xaphan, and the woman that landed him in Hell to begin with.

Xaphan is a touch grouchy. He is used to working alone on the mortal plane. Lucifer has decided to give him a partner for his current job, to add insult to injury Lucifer has sent him on a job to find a missing pet. The perky barely dressed blonde starts off as an annoying chatterbox, she turns into a temptress that he cannot keep his mind off of. The things that she makes him want to do to her forces him to question his loyalty to a vow he made three hundred years ago to another.

Xaphan shows Katie something she has never experienced before, descent man. Katie believes all men are selfish pigs. Xaphan is different from everything she has ever known about males. Katie makes Xaphan think and feel things he didn’t know he was capable of. She also tries his patience and makes his question his own sanity. All in all this makes for a fantastically great book.

I can easily visualize Lucifer in a fancy suit kicked back in his office, mischievous gleam in his eyes, rubbing his hands together, head thrown back and laughing at his skills when it comes to pairing his employees.

My only complaint is that the guy on the cover is wearing entirely too much clothing.

“Awesome” is what came to my mind when I quit reading this latest story by Eve. I’ll be placing this one under my new faves. This story is much longer then Eve’s other novellas and with the added length I really got to know the characters in depth and I feel like the rest of you will notice it and find it very satisfying.

Who would have guessed that Lucifer had a match making service? Well, leave it to Eve for her to make him master at matchmaking the most evil villains out there. This series is so fun to read, like the way the Lucifer, Mother Nature and Muriel is added to the story. This time around Lucifer’s granddaughter has lost something very dear to her and he needs the right kind of evil to get it back. This is where Xaphan’s and Katie come in. Both drive each other crazy while they work on their assignment from Lucifer. Xaphan reminds me of grumpy in Once Upon the Time and Kate, well let’s just say she is in a class all of her own. She so psycho no one wants to cross her path because she’s the type that would carve you up before you get a chance to say “hi” LOL

This is a very fun and sexy read that’s not to be missed. Read it as a standalone or in series order whichever way add it to your list and get to it soon.

Teaser
He caught it, stunned “You’re completely and utterly psycho”
“Why thank you,” she said, as she held a hand to her chest and preened. “I do try my best.”

If you take your readings seriously, this shouldn't be your cup of tea.
But if you like cartoons and action and that your idea of fun could be a mix of Tex Avery, Tarentino and DC features (ahem... the hentai versions), then this story is for you.
The heroine is very likely based on Harley Quinn, while the hero would be more like a dark knight type, a bit moody and too righteous for his own good.
So far, I have great fun with Eve Langlais, knowing that when I read one of her novels I can expect a fast paced, entertaining story and many good laughs. And sometimes, there's nothing better than that.

This is similar to the first book A Demon and His Witch, except the main characters' personalities are switched where we've got a grumpy hero and a psychotic heroine instead. It boggles the mind to think of Lucifer playing cupid though. Another fun read.

Who would have thought Lucifer being a perfect match maker? lol The man in charge of Hell himself is setting up couples and they are falling in love. Seems odd but he is trying to build his army.

Katie is a crazy psycho. She enjoys killing. Unfortunately in her human life this is what cost her, her life. Even if she did only kill scum bags who really didn't deserve to live. Sadly Katie has a bad past and trusts no man. Now in Hell the even call her The Black Widow. Even if she doesn't trust men, the girl still has needs! But the men she decides to satisfy those needs with never see the light of another day. Remember I told you she was a psycho.

Then there is Xaphan who made a ridiculous vow some 300 yrs ago to never love another. And the crazy mofo has kept it. That is until a little psycho vixen walks in with her sexual innuendos and starts to shatter Mr. Grumpy's well kept walls. And its a good thing she does, a man that looks as good as Xaphan does should not be self pleasuring himself at all! Unless he is putting a show!

This dysfunctional couple was no easy match. Him with his burdens and Katie with hers. Even is she breaks through his shell and gets him in bed she still plans to kill him.

I have said it tons of times before but I freaking love Eve Langlais! She always gives me exactly what I want in a book. I feel almost like repeating all my gushing love for her again and again. But I don't want to keep saying the same thing! You just really need to check out her books! Trust me! And Welcome To Hell series is becoming one of my top favorites of hers. I can't wait to Lucifer's next pair he sets up!

Welcome to Hell indeed! This is a place that you might not mind visiting because the denizens may be damned but they seem to be having a great time, at least those in the inner circle. Lucifer is an egotist who enjoys making mischief for his minions. This is a fun series that keeps giving you some interesting takes on demons, witches, and other residents of Hell.

When his granddaughters pet dragon goes missing Lucifer decides to pair up Katie and Xaphan to bring it back and punish the thief.

Katie comes flying into Xaphan's life upsetting centuries of self-inflicted misery. How can he stay true to the one he lost when a bubbly, mismatch eyed psycho keeps consuming his thoughts. She is nuts but Katie's insanity comes in handy for the devil as his favorite problem solver. Xaphan is one of Lucifer's favorite soldiers and he does not want to see any harm come to him, even though he set him up with a psycho killer. Xaphan has held onto his vow to never be with another woman for 300 years, but for some reason can see himself breaking it.

The story runs fairly quickly and the characters are definitely interesting. Fun ride!

4.5 Stars Ok really this whole series/world is just plain fun. There were some great giggles in this one as well. I actually really enjoyed Katie more than I expected I would after the first chapter. She was quite the evil little good murderer. But her antics antagonizing Xaphan were more than a little amusing in my mind. I find it hysterical that Lucifer is playing matchmaker with his demons in order to rebuild his army. All of the shenanigans come while chasing after a kidnapped baby pink dragon...ummmm yes please!

What happens when a grumpy, celibate demon and a peppy, murdering psycho are forced to team up to find Lucifer's granddaughter's lost baby pink dragon? Sexy, fluffy fun with an evil twist as only Eve Langlais can deliver!

This one very much reminded of Langlais' 'Bunny and the Bear' - with the seemingly air-headed and über-bubbly chick annoying the pants off the grumpy, reluctantly interested gruff guy - only more, well, evil (they do live in hell and work for Lucifer after all). There's a match-making Lucifer trying to repopulate his army, lots of innuendo, frisky one-liners, and a cock that just won't stand down when one certain psycho prances about. All in all, 'A Demon and his Psycho' was super sexy fun!

Okay, on one hand Katie is dangerous and psychotic which are not the qualities I look for in a heroine. She is really bubbly and sweet which masks her truly deadly and crazy core. Xaphan starts off seeming normal but turns out that he is almost as crazy as she is. Now, if these were humans on earth, I'd find their wholesale slaughtering very, very disturbing. However, since they're in Hell and slaughtering demons for looking at them funny etc. then their bloodlust is a little more acceptable.

Overall, this is a wonderfully funny and sexy story. Both Katie and Xaphan are unrepentantly psychotic but they can find a very lustful HEA in Hell.

A Demon and His Psycho is another fun read from Eve. This time Lucifer matches up a demon who refuses to break a vow he made to his first love, a love he scarcely remembers after three-hundred years and a psycho who loves to push peoples buttons, kill and have a lot of fun. Katie’s personality was big, hilarious and I enjoyed seeing the depth in her character grow as she started to let Xaphan in. I also enjoyed seeing Xaphan cave in to his desires and realise that not everything might be as he remembered. Throw in a stolen pink dragon and an adventure to find it and this was a seriously fun read.

I dig this.

It’s that simple. I rounded it up to five stars because it is funny as hell!

Katie was likeable at times and totally freaky at other times! I loved her quick words, and sassy attitude.

Grumpy (or wait I mean Xaphan ) was my favorite!
Big, loyal, tough and true to his word.

These books are very short and light, but they have a complete storyline, full of action and funny as hell writing.
It is that writing that keeps me coming back for more!

And DON’T get me started on Lucifer and Gaia 😂😂
I approve !

Nothing screamed made-for-each-other-couple like matching murderous tendencies.

I was one part fascinated, one part horrified at Katie's behavior. Total fucking psycho. Total fucking entertainment. I know this is part of a series, which I fully intend to read, but Katie and Xaphan deserve their own series. Manic pixie murderess and her demon boyfriend just wrecking things and making out hardcore atop a pile of dead bodies. Best seller.

Review originally posted at RabidReads.com.

I read the first book in this series last summer. I picked it up as a freebie. At the time that I read A Demon and His Witch, I didn’t realize it was a spinoff Eve Langlais’ Princess of Hell series (which I loved and first introduced me to Eve). Lucifer is the same character in both series and we do see characters from the first series in this one.

This book has Lucifer pairing two of his best henchmen together to search for his granddaughter’s pet pink dragon which was stolen. Both our hero, Xaphan, and heroine, Katie, are humans who sold their souls to Lucifer for something while they were still alive. Now they live in Hell and run errands for Lucifer.
Katie is Lucifer’s executioner and she loves her job. She is also a Black Widow. She will kill any man that she sleeps with. Katie is a wackadoodle (sorry, I just love that word and it fits Katie so well).

Mismatched eyes rolled and Katie shook her head at him. “It’s a baby. Like duh. Only adult dragons can fly.”

“Well how was I supposed to know it wasn’t full grown?”

“Because a full grown dragon wouldn’t chew on rocks, silly. Only teething babies do.”

“See, she’s proving to be an asset already,” Lucifer exclaimed, rubbing his hands together. “I knew I making the right choice pairing you up”

“You’re both insane,” he muttered.

“Thank you,” they replied in chorus.

Xaphan sold his soul to Lucifer to protect a woman he loved when he was a living human. He made a vow to her. He was very loyal to her and wouldn’t sleep with anyone but her. He has kept this vow for over 300 years. Then Lucifer forces him to partner with this crazy chick who dresses in a very revealing.

They start off looking like they are worse pair ever. Xaphan is a very controlled guy who always works alone. He also usually works on the mortal plane. Katie is a talker and seems to never stop talking. She is crazy. She spends most of her time going after demons in Hell. She knows all the ins and outs. She is much smarter than she seems.

Lucifer has become quite the matchmaker. He is a favorite character of mine. I really liked him in the Princess of Hell series and I’m still enjoying him in Welcome to Hell. He has great lines about playing golf against his brother, God. He is also dating Mother Nature.

This book is everything you would expect from Eve Langlais if you have ever read her before. I love the characters that she creates. The way that these two characters overcome their differences and pasts to come together. The secondary characters really add to to the story.

Another from Eve Langlais, and there are so many elements to enjoy that it is hard to pick just one. Lucifer is front and center in this story, perhaps in a marionette master sort of way: it is his machinations and matchmaking that is pairing his loyal minions with one purpose in mind: increasing the demon army in hell.

Katie is an executioner: she loves her job. No she really LOVES her job. Katie has anger issues, and is clinically diagnosable. But there is a deliciously wicked twist to Katie: she has adopted a very bubbly, giggly demeanor that makes her appear harmless, when she is anything but.

Lucifer enjoys Katie, in fact she is one of his favorites for getting a job done properly. But he needs her to team with Xaphan to find a missing dragon. And, somewhere in his devious brain he thinks that the two are the perfect team: for this job and for life.

Xaphan is a grumpy, semi-antisocial ex-warrior with a train load of baggage. Unused to working with anyone, the last thing he wants to do is run in search of someone’s pet, and certainly not paired with the chatty she of the questionable sanity Katie.

The two are cleverly paired: from annoying to distracting, there is something about Katie that Xaphan just can’t ignore. Even with the fact that she is known for killing every man she has ever had sex with. See, Katie doesn’t see that as odd: they all did something to break her trust or hurt her. She was just evening the odds. Yet Xaphan, with his peculiar honor and his pining over a long lost love show her what a good man can be, and is. And their interactions are priceless: the personalities just manage to play well with one another in dialog that is clever, witty and feels appropriate to their situation.

Both characters experience a wholesale change in their long-held opinions and attitudes, as they come together with sparks and steam. Their connection develops slowly, but is all the more convincing as their reliance on one another grows and strengthens. I could picture Lucifer with a satisfied grin on his face, as his plans for these two come to fruition.

I received an eBook copy of the title from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

HOLY WOW! If Katie's psychopathic tendencies don't make you giggle... wait. What does it say about me that I find her particular brand of crazy highly entertaining? Don't answer that.

Right. So. Katie and Xaphan. She's Lucifer's favorite assassin, he's a demon determined to uphold his vow. Which drives Luc absolutely bonkers, btw. What sort of demon holds true to a vow he made three hundred years ago? Xaphan, that's who. But when he breaks it, he breaks it in a big way.

Honestly, he and Katie are made for one another. They both have skill sets that are in demand and they both relish the kill. Oh, and they both have some anger/jealousy issues. THOSE TWO.

As always, Eve Langlais has created characters who are as bloodthirsty as they are turned on. Katie is sassy and wicked good with her knives and Xaphan has a mouth on him when he finally unbends enough to unleash it. Together, they're downright combustible.

So I read A Demon and His Witch and loved it, so my quandary was which book to read next. I really really really wanted to read the one about the Witch's cat. I went to the author's page and read the beginnings of all the rest of the series, including the cat one. And they all looked exceptionally awesome, except for this one. For me, a giggling girl and an old heavy-hearted guy just did not sound appealing. But the author's page kept suggesting, with every intro I read, to read the books in order. So I thought, fine, I don't always read in order and this book isn't really calling to me, but this time I'll do it and at least I'll progress into the whole Welcome to Hell series in order and get this one out of the way too.
So I read A Demon and His Psycho. And the whole book was fast-paced and interesting and well-written, and to my surprise I LOVED both of the characters! At the end, when they're questing and he then proves without a shadow of a doubt that he's over his past, it is INSANELY AWESOME!
I cannot recommend this book enough! I LOVED it!

Another brilliant book in the series.

I loved that we already know that Lucifer is playing match maker with some of his better staff. It gives us a whole new way to look at him especially the way some of them get away with talking to him.

Xaphan is our moody demon, a man who made a vow to his lover three hundred years ago and still lives by it ever faithfully.

Katie is the fun loving, bubbly psycho intent on seducing him and getting him to lighten up. The problem is that after she sleeps with a man, she feels vulnerable and ends up killing her lover after the first time.

On a mission set by Lucifer the pair set out to find Lucifer's granddaughters pet pink Dragon. The pain both rub watch other the wrong way and the right way. It is mainly Xaphan that struggles with the feeling she brings out in him. Both also have a psychotic possessive side.

Loved the wit and banter between the two, especially when Xaphan started to loosen up.

Welcome to Hell! And welcome to a great series. If you haven't read book 1, go back IMMEDIATELY and read it. Then come back to "A Demon and His Psycho."
I absolutely am in love with this series. It is so much fun. I don't care how bad your day at work was, if you sit down in your favorite chair and pick up this book, suddenly all is right with the world.
Ok, maybe a little dramatic, but it is fun. If you're looking for mysterious and sensuous, then stop right there. It's hard to be mysterious when Lucifer is getting ready to play God in the golf tournament of the century.
But I digress.
Xaphan is a demon who has taken a vow to his long lost love, and Katie is just the psycho chick who can make him break that vow. She is crazy with an outrageous attitude and will to do anything to get Xaphan to smile....among other things.
I love this series! Keep 'em coming!!!

Eve Langlais continues her ‘Welcome to Hell’ series of books with ‘A Demon And His Psycho’, which inline with the first book is outstanding. Having read Langlais before I knew her style to be fun and creative with deep emotional character interactions – I wasn’t disappointed by this book, rather enchanted that once again Langlais is able to dig into her imagination and produce another phenomenal series.

Lucifer is again matchmaking, in this second book, and Xaphan and Katie are his intended victims. With the amazing twists and turns along with some steamy sex scenes this book is a must have for fans of paranormal romance, romance with a twist, or Eve Langlais.
