Burning alive is nothing compared to the heat of his touch.
There are better ways to break up with a girl than having her roasted at the stake as a witch. Is it any wonder Ysabel has trust issues? She got her revenge, though, and it only cost her a slightly tarnished soul.
Working for Lucifer isn't all bad, until her ex-boyfriend escapes the bowels of Hell and she's forced to team up with a womanizing demon to fetch the jerk back.
As a minion in Lucifer's legion, Remy's seen a lot of things, but nothing can prepare him for the witch with the acerbic tongue - and voluptuous figure. The more she pushes him away, the more determined he becomes to seduce her. However, what's a poor demon to do when he accidentally falls in love and wants to keep her forever?
Welcome to Hell where you're screwed if you do and damned if don't. And just so you know, Lucifer has a special spot reserved for you...
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
Man... I don't like to give bad reviews. I appreciate any and everyone who can write a story and then toss it out to the world for consumption. I know I can't do that. But I didn't like this book.
The premise was cool, I'll say that. I love stories that explore the devil/Lucifer character. I'm sure he's a fun one to write! What happened to Ysabel really sucked, so I got the selling-of-the-soul-for-revenge thing. I probably would have, too.
But, it just wasn't executed well. I rolled my eyes and/or scoffed WAY too many times for one story. The sentence structure was weird, plot lines jumped and twisted all over the place. And I just couldn't see a woman who didn't give it up for FIVE HUNDRED YEARS falling in love with a womanizer within three days. I know we always suspend our disbelief with that stuff, as romance readers. But, come on! He didn't even do anything because break down her door a million times and spout sex jokes that a ten-year-old could make.
This one just didn't work for me. I'm a little surprised at all the great reviews, but hey! We all have different opinions. I think, with a REALLY great editor, this might have had potential to be a good read. The idea was there. It just fell flat for me.
3.5 stars. Okay, I have to admit this grew on me. At first Remy's constant sexual comments grated and the sexual innuendos and banter were so ridiculously bad it kept me reading for the sheer laugh at not with factor. By the time the actual romance started, where Remy began to admit he had feelings for Ysabel, I was hooked.
The story was funny when it wasn't trying too hard and Langlais's Lucifer was hilarious if a bit weaker than expected. But his evilness was proven in this technically funny but horrible line: "Lucifer bit into his foot-long dog--a daschund (sic) collie mix with a touch of mustard and hot sauce. Mmm, nothing like it.
The world was a little bizarre in that only perfect people went to Heaven and given that the concept of Heaven and Hell is a Christian concept where Jesus died for the sins that everyone has, the only one(s) inhabiting it would be God and possibly Jesus.
I did have a problem with the vengeance thing, especially when the hate had lasted 500 years. Damning someone to eternal torture in prison in Hell is pretty nasty. That 500 years later her hatred hasn't abated (especially for one guy whose only crime was boasting which only added fuel to the fire, pun intended). Interestingly, she was much nastier in this regard then he was: He admits to himself that even a few hours working in the prison would make him go insane while she walked through it with no problem.
I also hated the veiled sexism like when he referred to her repeatedly as a shrew and when he was so arrogant that insisted she must like him. I hated that she let him defend her by fighting a bunch of drunken idiots when she admitted to herself that she didn't need his help, she was plenty powerful enough to handle it on her own. But as this proves, she was very magically strong. I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that she not only refused him, but repeatedly responded to his advances by punching him in the stomach. She also proved that her magic was more powerful than his.
A sample of the ribald humor that I thought was ridiculous: "The slender pole of her broom whipped through the seam of his thighs, emerging from him like a three foot long, wooden dick. Grabbing a hold of it, he thrust his hips forward and with a grin said, "Screw Pinocchio's nose. Now this is what I call wood."
A sample of the humor I found funny: "You really should try to find a real spell book instead of relying on Google." There were frequent references to the modern world amidst the medieval insanity of Hell. She also frequently replied to his ongoing sexual banter with, "I hate you," at the perfect time.
The sex was vanilla and mediocre. The word "pussy" was used frequently which I hate. While it was frequently said that he didn't force her, he actually kind of did in a pushing until she relented kind of way. That bothered me.
Her resistance to trusting his feelings went on too long but then it would have been weird for it to be fine midway through, the admission of mutual love has to be the end of this kind of story. I think his declaration of love should have been further along in the story for her fear to not be ridiculous. But I loved the scenes where his feelings for her were obvious like when (not much of a spoiler, it was massively predictable).
At the end, . But there is a sequel and I think I may actually buy it and read it. (And you have to admit, that cover is hot and completely fits the character.)
A Demon and His Witch is a laugh your butt off sexy romance. Eve has always been known to lift reader’s spirits with her hilarious sexy novellas and she doesn’t miss a beat in this new series.
Remy is one egotistic demon that lets anything fall from his mouth, most of which irritates Ysabel to no end but yet she just can’t help having a crush on him all the while she is firing right back at him with everything she’s got.
I enjoyed the addition of Lucifer the Princess of Hell’s dad in this book, it made reading that much more fun.
If your one that doesn’t miss out buying Eves fun books don’t miss this series, if your one in the few that hasn’t tried Eve’s books what are you waiting for?? Go buy and see what all the fun is about.
This book was funny as only Eve Langlais can write. Ysabel is in hell because she has asked Lucifer to exact revenge on those that burned her at the stake. However, some of those souls have escaped from Hell so Ysabel has to find them and bring them back to Hell. Remy is a soldier in Lucifer's army and is tasked to help Ysabel with her tasks. They fall in instant hate, but also lust and it is cute to watch the two together.
I found this book fun and entertaining. Ysabeland Remy were a fun pair. Lucifer knew what he was doing when he was putting them together to collect the escaped souls. There banter was great. Even the banter between Ysabel and Lucifer was fun too. I can't wait to continue this series.
A Demon and His Witch is my first read by author Eve Langlais, but it is definitely not my last! I absolutely loved this book!
The story opens with our heroine, Ysabel – I love the name! – being burnt alive after being accused of being a witch. I purposely omitted being falsely accused because…well, she IS a witch. However, she has used her abilities mainly for the good of those involved and although her lover’s mother leads the crazed mob, Ysabel knows that her beloved will come to her rescue at any moment.
But he doesn’t.
Instead he stands by silently while Ysabel is murdered and in a fit of hurt and rage, she curses those directly involved in her death to Hell.
Great opening! From there the reader is reintroduced to Ysabel who is now Lucifer’s assistant and quite the handful. She’s at the end of her contract with Lucifer when he informs her that five of the souls she’s condemned have escaped from their hellish prisons and until they are recaptured, she will relive the moment of her death again and again. Ever helpful, Lucifer lends Ysabel assistance in the form of Remy, a demon whose specialty is tracking.
Remy and Ysabel were a hoot together! I haven’t laughed out loud so many times while reading a book as I have when these two shared the pages – a perfect combination of sexual tension and humor! But Remy isn’t all gorgeous looks and great abs – this man, er, demon…has a heart. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but one scene made me just fall in love with Remy. I mean, I love my alpha males and Remy is indeed all alpha…almost to the point of being caveman-like…but he’s such a lovable jerk. Ysabel is strong with just the right touch of sexy and feminine. These two were just perfect for one another. Also, Felipe, Ysabel’s pet cat? I can’t wait to see where that goes!
Having been raised as a good Christian girl, I felt almost guilty that I found so much enjoyment in reading a story that took place in Hell and that made me actually like Lucifer as much as I did. Almost guilty, I said. Not enough to stop reading this series, of course. In fact, I can’t wait to begin Book Two, A Demon and His Psycho. I really can’t say enough about this story but I will encourage anyone who may be considering adding it to their “to be read” list to grab it and move it to the top of the list. You won’t be disappointed! (Originally Reviewed for Blackraven's Reviews)
Eh, Is this a 3 or 2.5 star book? I'm not sure. The story was enjoyable so I guess I'll leave it at a 3 star review. The plot was completely predictable. There are no surprises whatsoever in this story. We know why the witch and the demon are thrown together. Ysabel is a bitter old witch with a body of a 20 year old. Remy is a hot half human/half fire demon who gets under Ysabel's skin.
The set up is cute and the characters were actually kind of fun. Remy is a sweet guy. I liked him. He's snarky and fun. Ysabel was a fuddy duddy. I didn't really warm up to her. After 500 years, she's still bitter? What a drama queen. She was naive and stupid in life and afterlife. I have very little patience for characters like her.
The secondary characters stole the show. Remy's lunatic mom is a stitch. I like her. Felipe the "demon cat" was pretty cool. I want a cat like that! I hope there is a story about him. He's a cutie pie.
This story is for those who like enemies to lover stories. It's a cute one.
Burned at the stake, she sells her soul for revenge. After nearly 500 years in hell she is almost free. The book is about the demon Remy and his witch Ysabel.
If you want some light fun with a touch of snark Langlais is the author for you and you'll enjoy this first book in The Welcome to Hell Series.
The banter between half demon Remy, a minion in Lucifer's legion, and witch Ysabel, Lucifer's assistant, was fun to read and the chemistry between the two well written.
The book is also well paced, although some what short, so I did wait until it was on sale before purchasing.
Whilst for me this isn't the strongest book by Langlais, when it comes to humour and snark, it's still a light, fun read.
Cute, fast pace read. I didn't find it funny at all and Ysabel had to much attitude that which I think is the norm for this author but sometimes too much is too much.
LOL this book was so much fun to read! Not only was it funny with all the banter between the two characters but the sexual tension and the delicious way Remy got Ysabel all hot and bothered was great!
This is a new series by Eve Langlais that is an off shoot of the Princess of Hell series as we see familiar secondary characters such as Satan and details about his family.
Ysabel was burned at the stakes during the Middle Ages for being witch and upon her death she sold her soul to the devil in exchange for tormenting for eternity the 5 soul responsible for her demise, including her lover who betrayed her. Since then Ysabel has worked as Satan's assistant and closed herself off to men and trusting anyone. Now don't think that this has lead to Ysabel being meek and withdrawn in fact the opposite. Ysabel is a terror even for Satan with her foul-mouth and hot-temper that no one dares to cross her path unless they want to suffer great pain.
Ysabel is faced with the task of retrieving the 5 soul who have escaped from prisoner otherwise she will spend eternity burning up as she did upon her death before it drives her mad. Until she captures the souls each day she will experience her death with the duration increasing by one minute each day. To ensure she is successful Satan teams her up with is best warrior Remy, a half-demon who is beyond gorgeous and knows it as he is the biggest man-whore in Hell.
What happens next is a book full of laughs as Remy's constant sexual innuendos drive Ysabel crazy, but at the same time slowly breaks down the walls that she has erected around herself. Before long both start realizing that the impossible is happening; they are falling for each other and hard. The only problem is will either one be able to accept what is happening and embrace the chance of experiencing love for eternity.
Paranormal fans will love this book as it delivers on all fronts, humor, sexual tension, a gorgeous alpha hunk, secondary characters that you want to learn more about in following books and an explosion of passion that may be too hot even for hell.
Eve Does it again! In this wonderful new spin-off of the Princess of Hell series we're reintroduced into Eve's quirky version of hell where everything isn't fire and brimstone. Well, there is heat, but of a different variety ;)
The story revolves around Ysebel who was burned at the stake for witchcraft. While being trussed up by the villagers she's sure of the fact that her lover will ride in on his white horse and save her. Needless to say it turns into a really bad night when he shows only to watch with the rest of the villagers while she burns. In true scorned woman/witch fashion she uses her dying breath to make a deal with Lucifer to ensure that those responsible for her untimely demise are punished. Little did she know that in exchange for her revenge she would be subjected to 500 years as Lucifer's personal assistant. With only days left her in contract Ysebel's dreams of a nice quiet afterlife are shattered when the souls that she bargained her servitude for escape. Due to the fine print in her contract she must recapture the souls or she's doomed to relive her death everyday until she finally loses her mind.
Always helpful, Lucifer offers Ysebel the services of one of his best trackers; half demon Remy. With his Adonis looks and sharp tongue he's everything a woman could want. Except if you happen to be a love scorned witch with a supreme distrust for good looking men. So leads us to hilarious verbal sparring and extremely hot chemistry.
I absolutely loved the story and world created in A Demon and His Witch, but I have to admit my ultimate pleasure in reading this book was Remy. His crude sexual one liners filled my inner teenager with glee.
Hot, funny, and a happily ever after every witch deserves. What more could a girl ask for?
If you’re looking for an easy read look no more. This series is so silly and ridiculous but I love every second if it. Ysabel is a witch who sold her soul to the devil in order to take revenge on the people who burned her on the stakes 500 years prior. Remy is a half demon tasked to help Ysabel find souls who escaped from their hell prison and those souls happen to be exactly the ones she brought in the pit. Remy is so full of himself 😅 but this feisty witch doesn’t care. She is Lucifer’s personal assistant and pretty damn good at her job. The banter is hilarious, the smut hot and so well paced although a bit short.
Wow this book started out funny and interesting. Then went down hill from there. As soon as the Hero Remy entered the picture it got really bad. The whole of the rest of the book and ALL the conversations were nothing but crude sexual innuendos. I am not even exaggerating a little. It was pretty bad.
There were some funny moments and I did enjoy Lucifer quite a bit.
The story line would have been good, it even started out good. But the author ruined it with nothing but crudeness. It was like all of a sudden Remy shows up in the story and the entire book changes from hahaha this is a funny book to WTH! and WHY!.....
I will not be moving forward with this series. The writing became just to stupid. Some of the dialogue was so stupid and cheesy that I was SMH, doing a lot eye rolling, oh geez give me a break, who writes like this? There was more talk about sex than there was actual sex, there was only 2 sex scenes the rest of the book was all sex talk. Stupid bad porn talk. It wasn't even good sex talk.
As for the narration it was pretty decent, I think the men's voices could have been better but it wasn't bad. There was emotion in her reading. I would listen to her again, just no more of this series.
I picked this up expecting a funny, fluffy, sexy romp. What I got instead was an entire book of the heroine forcefully saying she wasn't interested and a 'hero' who never backed off, groping her when unconscious and such. The book is just CONSTANT innuendo and icky rape-culture insistence that regardless of what a woman says, if a man persists he'll get the girl. It even uses several of the stock phrases, like, "her voice said no, but her tone said yes."
If I'm honest, there was probably a time (years ago) when I could have read this and only noticed the funny bits (and there are some) and think, "it's so hot he wants her so bad." But growing up and learning to think even minimally critically about what I read blitzed it. This is frankly just gross. Which is a shame. I've read Langlais in the past and not hated it. Now I have to wonder if those books were better or I was just oblivious to their badness.
Ysabel made a deal with the devil, she wanted revenge on those who burned her alive at the stake, especially a boyfriend who played a part in her death. Now 500 years later, she is still tied to Lucifer and counting the days when her deal with him is done. What she had not planned on was the people she sought revenge on escaping and having to hunt them down and return them to hell, nor did she want the help of playboy demon Remy.
Remy wants Ysabel, Ysabel wants Remy but would never admit it. As they grow closer to finding each and every escapee the attraction continues to build and will they be satisfied with just a fling or is there something more to explore?
This was hilarious, I loved the whole Lucifer angle he is a hoot. What a way to start a new series, one of those books you cant put down until you finish.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
4 stars. I really enjoyed the humor & story. The h was so much fun, the H was genuine. I think the idea of Lucifer playing Cupid ripe with opportunity for some epic comic relief. I plan to follow the series.
funny and silly and definitely a different way to look at Hell, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I will definitely continue on with this series and honestly will get back to the Princess of Hell series as well.
Now I loved the female narrator in this one. Is she Eva Kaminsky? She sure sounds a lot like her.
I love the funny humanised version of hell for a romance as much as a doom and gloom version of it. I expected quirky Lucifer, sarcastic heroine and typical hero demon but despite expecting all of this from the book, it still lacked in some very obvious places.
The first thing worth mentioning is the conversation between Ysabel and Remy. It is for the majority and I really mean majority except for like two-three lines all about sexual innuendoes. So much cringe, I can't even. They are fine if used sparingly but every dialogue had something sexual that it was just lame. I don't expect intellectual conversations between a witch and a demon but there should be at least some dialogues to show they have something to form a connection? In a book this small that lacks character depth, storyline or novelty of world building, all I have is the dialogues. And for all the sex talks, there are only two sex scenes so obvious it wasn't some humping fest book so what's with the lack of non sexual talks?
The mission is so sidelined, no urgency or no curiosity. They did go one time to that prison to see how they escaped but after that nobody gives a shit. Lucifer tells her she will burn each minute more every day until she goes loco so you would think it makes sense to find as many as she can before the next day deadline but nooo they just find one and call it a day. Whaaat? At least give a reason to justify catching only one every day. And the ending, there is no bad guy here, I am not even sure what's mentioned is enough to warrant a whole book.
The romance was cringe with a douche fuckboy who can't stop thinking with his dick and a chick who deems all men are trash because of one for 500 years. The weird "plot" which is nothing but air. What's the point?
I LOVED this book! Eve Langlais always delivers an amazing story. Remy is a half demon, he is hilarious and full of sexual innuendos he is also sexy and known as a ladies man. Ysabel is a witch who was burned at the stake, betrayed by a her lover and made a deal with the devil to get her revenge. She is also pretty much a bad ass and has sworn off men. But the devil with his evilness has other plans for these two!
Now these two are teamed up to get the souls who broke out of hell back. Ysabel needs to do it fast because with these out her contracts void and there are gruesome consequences. Remy and Ysabel heat up the pages fast with their sexual tension. Soon we find the ladies man and the witch who has sworn off men for over 500 years falling for one another, but first they need to accomplish their mission because Ysabel's life is on the line.
Eve Langlais jam packs so much into one story. We get everything you would expect to a full length novel. I was stuck to these pages the whole time. I loved Remy and Ysabel! They where a perfect fit. Oh and there is the devil himself who I love!! Yes I said I love the devil. He is funny and weird and you just have to see him in action to understand.
I think this is going down in one of my favorite Eve Langlais books! Its hard to pick just one. But if you are looking for a a sexy read with a hot alpha demon with a funny and sweet side and a feisty heroine who can handle her own and stand up to the devil himself then look no further!
'A Demon And His Witch' is classic Eve Langlais fare - at least when it comes to her "traditional" relationship stories (I haven't read any of her mènage-flavored tales as that isn't my thing). A zaftig, snarky (anti)heroine meets a hunky, player (anti)hero and they trade barbs laced with sexual innuendo until he decides she's the one and the heroine finally succumbs to his considerable "charm". The end.
These stories are cute, definitely fluffy and often fun, but there wasn't anything new brought to the table in this one. In fact, apart from minor plot differences it seemed to read very much like 'Wickedest Witch', 'Date With Death', etc. So if you liked those sexy tales and are a Langlais fan then you can't go wrong with 'A Demon And His Witch'!
This naughty, often quirky and funny tale involves a nasty curse, the desire for vengeance, one hellish contract & a sacrifice made for love. Ysabel & Remy made me laugh at points with their battles and banter. The story doesn't shy away from the blunt or the sometimes crude and though there was lots of heat between the witch and her demon (they live in hell after all), there were also some very sweet, even touching moments between them amidst the crazy...
"You can call me Remy, but, when I get your thighs around my neck, feel free to call me God. It totally pisses off Lucifer's brother, which means brownie points for me."
OMG, Remy was so adorably crude, I mean, cute;-)
Really enjoyed this little story, psycho mother, demon eating hellcat with a secret, frigid witch, devious, match making ruler of Hell and all. Bring on the next installment.
HOWEVER: I did NOT approve of Lucifer's hotdog! At.All!!! Dachshunds are little angels, not food for the prince of the pit.
I managed to convince myself to finish this one for three reasons: 1. It’s a short book. 2. I don’t usually feel comfortable with rating a novel without finishing it. I felt the need to rate this one for my own reference. (I won’t waste my time with this author again.) 3. It’s a short book.
“She’s different.” “Really? Funny, she looks like a woman to me. Two legs. A pair of tits. A hole instead of a rod. Slap her with some of your famous sex mojo, fuck her good and clean her out of your system.”
Quick, hilarious and hot read! Welcome to Hell indeed *grins* the way Lucifer is described is so funny, and the way he is trying to be a match-maker is out of this world!
