I found the plot of the second half of the book a bit derivative, but I liked its descriptions of storms and the juxtaposition of the fantastical and the mundane (a bit like films like E.T. and the recent Stranger Things TV show). This is one of several novella-length works by famous horror writer HP Lovecraft, and quite a good place to start with his work as it's a bit more character-driven than a lot of his other stories. Current rating: 4.20
