asked:
Is anyone else worried Zoya and Nikolai might be paired up in this? They are both great characters, but together? Disaster! Disaster for them and anyone unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity.

people say that Leigh just paired up the last two single people up together BUT I SAY she saved the best for last. I love their relationship in this book. We see the three years worth of friendship and trust and understanding of each others flaws/strengths in their interactions and this is what makes them a great pair! zoya is such a strong and powerful woman she'd make an amazing queen! And their romance in this book is kinda written like Kaz and Inej's where they obviously feel things for each other yet they know they have duties and obligations to attend/ they think the other person deserves better to so they suppress them 😫 Literally Zoya is the only one who can handle Nikolai THEY ARE PERFECT WOW I LOVE THEM SO MUCH AFTER READING KOS

i love zoya, nikolai, and the idea of them together. even though she seems like the complete opposite of what nikolai “needs”, i think she’s a lot more suited to post-r&r nikolai than anyone else is, mostly because she knows what he’s been through and because she knows exactly who she is and what she wants. either way, we’ll be able to see a lot more of zoya’s qualities and motivations in this upcoming book (since it seems like she’ll be a pov character), outside of the descriptions of other characters who, inexplicably, have some sort of bias (alina & matthias, for example: the former resents zoya for most of the series for her looks, powers, and for seducing mal, while the latter still had internalized prejudice against most grisha).

i love how zoyalai hasn't even sailed yet and it already bothers so many people 😌

I don't get what's wrong with them being paired up? I read the excerpt and their banter is fun and chemistry is present and I enjoyed it a lot. I'm definitely not worried and I'm going to read this. Let's not forget love changes people in good and unexpected ways.

I did not like Zoya. I would find it really unfortunate if Zoya and Nikolai paired up.
However, Nikolai and Nina...

First of all if it is Zoya I won’t read it...no matter how much love I have for Nik. Second, I can’t picture Nik liking Zoya that way. He fell for Alina and Zoya is pretty much the opposite of her.
Jade
I honestly think Nikolai needs someone, dare I say it, less full of her own importance. I grew to like Zoya but she is nowhere near my favourite. He needs a Genya-type.

nope, nope nopeeeeee. Come onnnnnnnn seriously???
no pplase Leigh!! don't do that to us!!!! Zoya is fine but hell nahhhh. she is not good enough for Nikolai. I am so passionately against it, my hands are shaking.
Nina on the other hand..... <3

You're all too biased toward Zoya because of her character in the Grisha trilogy. I didn't like her until she made an appearance in the Six of Crows series, and I already started appreciating her whenever Nina mentioned her because we saw a new side to her. But King of Scars really made me like her and become a true fan. She's underrated because she was an antagonist for a while in Alina's story, but in her own story, we see an amazing girl who does so much for others and keeps her true feelings behind a cold front. Despite all that she did in the past, she's trying so hard now to help keep her country going; she's practically one of the pillars keeping it up.

I want Nikolai to have a significant other, but not with Zoya

I’d like Nikolai and Nina together, if not, then I think Nikolai should stay single. I don’t know.. the way Zoya treated Alina was too much and she can’t redeem herself to me. :’)

I'm still bitter that Alina didn't end up with him but I seem to be in the minority.

I'm kind of getting a Nicolai+ Nina vibe. It's a bit weird since he's older but I feel like there might be something happening between them. I don't know.

Frankly, I don´t understand all the hate Zoya gets. In the original trilogy, she was more annoying than anything else. She was definitely not fleshed out enough for me to feel particularly strongly about her one way or another, yet it seems than some fans decide to dislike her for all eternity.
Personally, I am actually quite impressed with Zoya as a character in King of Scars. I don´t think the author is trying to artificially make us like her as some suggest; she has simply grown up and grown into a woman she was always going to be. As I got to know her properly in KoS, she´s actually became my favourite female character in the Grishaverse. She is haughty and abrasive, but she is also strong, practical, smart, decisive and her heart is ultimately in the right place.
As to her relationship with Nikolai, I love the ultra slow burn we are getting, and I think they are actually perfect for each other. She needs someone to brighten her up a bit and counter her cynical side, and he needs someone grounded enough to help him turn his ideas (which are fairly grand and romantic at times) into something realistically doable. They are already true partners at the beginning of the book and it only gets better as the story progresses. I am so excited to see where their relationship goes in the sequel.
Also, I have to say that I was not expecting this level of maturity from a YA series, and I am very pleasantly surprised. Finally, there is a realistic portrayal of what a solid relationship between equals should look like.

Read the excerpt here: http://grishaverse.com/books/nikolai-..... It's a pretty long one and I don't think you'll hate Zoya after reading it. Nikolai and Zoya have awesome conversations and the way she's deadpanning Nikolai is pretty cute. :P

Yes! Nikolai explicitly stated in Ruin and Rising that he was NOT interested in Zoya. I kind of feel like Leigh Bardugo is just pairing up the two remaining single characters left. He honestly should have ended up with Alina. Both him and Alina had first-hand experienced the Darkling's wrath, and it also would have solved the problem of his marriage (with Alina being a Saint).

Zoya is a bully. I have just started King of Scars (after reading Six of Crows duology and Grisha triology) and I still don't want her and Nikolai together. I love Nikolai's character. I would HATE IT if he ends up with Zoya.
Rozus
i hate ZOYA!! Mal and now poor Nikolai! what a girl

I know I’m late, but I finally read KOS last week. To be completely honest, I wasn’t sure going in. I liked Zoya in the Grisha Trilogy. I thought she was funny, and her lack of a filter was incredibly relatable. And of course I completely adored Nikolai, because duh. It’s Nikolai. Now that I’ve finished KOS I can officially say I’m a fan of the Nikolai/Zoya pairing. They see the world from two different extremes, so they balance each other out. And I love the fact that they’re friends, and that they’ve been friends for a few years now. They know each other backward and forward, they genuinely enjoy each other’s company, and they’re always joking with each other. I think one of the most important foundations in a romantic relationship is friendship, and Nikolai and Zoya definitely have that going for them.

I ship Zoya x Nikolai *Zoyalai?* it's true they are totally opposite in some aspects but KoS shows how they have bonded with eachother other with time. Love this power couple!

My money is on Nikolai and Nina...

I agree... I want Nikolai to stay single honestly. I know Leigh has said there will be a romance subplot but since there are four POVs I'm holding out hope
Also it seems to obvious for Leigh to do that and she's a surprising author!

OMG...what...Move on around for the next Queen of Ravaka. Zoya's earned it!!!!! Okay Okay she's not the I'll give you hugs and kisses type (yeah just don't approach her like that)..but if you have read this we get a vibe that Zoya has been through some things. And WTF...Nikolai and Nina...OMG..she loves her some Matthias and if she did he would haunt her thoughts. And Nina hasn't been 100% there for the Grisha unlike my Queen Zoya whose been fighting for the Grisha for years. And in this book Nikolai has some lusting after Zoya moments. To go back..in the Girsha Verse books...Genya mentioned that it would be good to have a Grisha on the Throne....back to present...Hello Miss Zoya. Nina doesn't have it all together to be Queen. Nikolai actually got Zoya to open up a bit about her scars, and Zoya has to stop herself to from affection. Now stop all this madness and let Zoya and Nikolai be together and have Lanstov Grisha babies.

Uh, first of all, that's rude, some people actually ship it and your comment just managed to annoy one of those people, second I'm more than ready for it.
mare
I'M CRYINGGGG the amount of people that doesnt like this ship bcs they hate zoya and now zoyalai is basically one of the best grishaverse couple other than kanej
Jes
I'm a little on the edge about this ship. I don't really think they would be a good couple. I really think Nikolai needs to reconsider. I mean it's Zoya we're talking about! She's not the nicest.
Ellie Rose
Their pairing may be a little harmful to any other characters in the vicinity, but if you re-read the Grisha trilogy, I think LB was planning it from the very beginning. Zoya's always one to comment on Alina and Nikolai, much like Mal. She's the one who takes greatest offense at the Lantsov emerald being given to Alina, even after the proposal. Ever since S&S it's seemed pretty likely, especially since Alina is always talking about how ridiculously beautiful Zoya is, and then how talented and handsome Nikolai is, it seemed inevitable.
E. M. Nikolaev
Honestly, with more development and their opposing personalities I think such a relationship could work well
Joanna
I like Zoya. What's not to like She's a tragic, powerful beauty.
