Cora I really like Zoya, but I don't think she would be a good match for Nikolai. They make good partners, but I feel like she should stay single because it shows her independence. I also feel like Nikolai had truly loved Alina, but he was too much of a gentleman to show it while she was still pining after Mal. And Alina had probably also loved Nikolai, but too obsessed with the idea of Mal to realize it.

Foenix The book answers the part about Alina and Nikolai. And why does Zoya have to be single to show independence? Why can’t she want marriage or romantic love without it lowering her strong and badass image?

Cora I'm saying that it's cliche that every one has to end up with a romantic partner. But you don't have to be single to show independence. That's ridiculous. And I think the point is: Zoya was a HORRIBLE person. Admittedly, Leigh Bardugo decided to make KOS all about her just because of her sudden liking for Zoya. Giving Zoya a tragic past doesn't justify what a nightmare she'd been back at the Little Palace. Cracking a girl's ribs because the girl had beat her in a fight, and terrorizing the other Grisha. I'm not sure about other's opinions, but how a character is portrayed in the original series/book is basically considered their true personality (because it's what the author had in mind about them when the book was published). And a major part of Zoya's character had been her prickly, negative, and undevoted personality, which makes her a poor match for Nikolai.

She Who Reads Thank you for saying this. People keep on judging Zoya without knowing her background story :((
