"Perhaps the best Honor Harrington novel; a departure from form in the tradition of the Great Escape."

"Most memorable of the Gaunt's Ghosts series to my mind. This is raw military sci fi, but not without a thematic backdrop. The investment and assault of a 40k Hive City with some badass supertanks thrown in. Introduces a lot of fresh faces into later books."

"Not raw military scifi, but the combat isn't there just to prop up the story or world either. Eventually boils down to housing estate rattenkrieg on the grand scale."

"A memorable novel with some really great scenes, true. The twist, while a great discussion point, makes for an anticlimactic and quite final end for those looking solely for entertainment. Furthermore there is more than a little dead weight. This book, as is made clear by sequels, is not intended as military science fiction and the decisions made by the sculptor reflect that."
