They All Saw a Cat
by
"Brendan Wenzel must have a busy art studio as he is incorporated so many forms of art in this book! The story gives a sense of how living creatures look at a cat - each a different perspective! The cat, too, shows different feeling & emotions. The reader will be intrigued with the animals & want to read this story again & again! I shared the book with my grandson, as he turned two. He was captivated! In the hands of a young child, an attention grabbing story is the ultimate test of greatness!"

What a delightful story told in under a hundred words - yet each word carefully chosen to evoke warm feelings and satisfaction! Thunder Boy Jr.
by
"Powerful story about a little guy looking to find his own identity - written by an insightful author, Sherman Alexie. The story is heartwarming with an element of surprise at the conclusion that will touch the reader's heart! The illustrations are warm and tender. The illustrator created a color pallet of "authentic brick and old wood" scraps scanned and computerized, from an dilapidated old house where her studio now stands. It can't get any better than this! What a great book for all ages!"

Ideas Are All Around
by
"Amazing picture book! Stead takes the ordinary & makes it spectacular. This has stories within a story - some happy, some not. He writes about nature's beauty, friendship, advancements in inventions, travel, & architecture yet also gently addresses war & poverty. The artwork is simplistic but captivating. Stead uses a simple camera to capture beauty in everyday life. He has created a wonderful story from a simple walk with his dog around town! "

Wonderful interpretation of colors...red, yellow, & white radiate through this story. How fitting to show that creatures...human and animals can be so different but yet be best of friends. Be a Friend
by
"You know how to tell a great children's book? When you start to read to a little one, and he/ she comes right over and has a seat in your lap to see the pages better. My little 19 month old grandson was very engaged in this tender story. He liked standing tall like a tree as did Dennis in the story!

A Morning with Grandpa
by
"When grandparents & grandchildren play, they create lasting memories. This wonderful story shares a generational bond as each teaches the other their exercise & relaxation techniques. The illustrations bring joy & laughter as grandpa awkwardly does yoga, & as the little one adds a feisty interpretation of grandpa's gentle tai chai movements. The book offers glossary, exercises, & further reading on tai chai & yoga. Add to a cultural diversity and grandparent collection. "

Freedom Over Me: Eleven Slaves, Their Lives and Dreams Brought to Life by Ashley Bryan
by
"A powerful, moving story of slavery & dreams of freedom. A heart wrenching story about those sold into slavery - how they coped - at the hands of their owners, what they were thinking and their dreams. The beauty of the story is how they learned to cope via family bonds, art, dance, music, and storytelling. A story based on historical documents brought to life through moving words and beautiful collages, portraits, and drawings to honor real people and real events in history."

School's First Day of School
by
"Delightful! Great children's book - sure to stimulate a love for school in little ones! The new schoolfront has a warm personification. Its face seems to smile and frown along with the actions of the story! The school has much to learn along with the children! He anticipates children coming on the first day but then he hopes they will return! The children anticipate the first day, too, but the teacher, playmates, lunch, playground, and the school's atmosphere are so fun that everyone wants a repeat performance on day two! The perfect book for children. Lots to look at in the pictures. Christian Robinson illustrates with warmth and accepting tones and shapes. "

Ada's Violin: The Story of the Recycled Orchestra of Paraguay

"Such a wonderful book to share with children. So much to gain from hearing this story where people work together to overcome insurmountable odds in a life of poverty. Through the joys and love of music and dedicated training on their handmade instruments of garbage, a group of talented young people bring forth a better life for themselves and their families. This book's illustrations are as intriguing as the story. They, too, have the look of building an amazing story, in collage format, from found materials and recycled objects. "A collaborative effort of the author and illustrator to create a refreshing book! Together, they have created a vocabulary lesson on homographs - words with the same spelling and sound but different meanings. Animals team up to show how words can be used (side-by-side) as nouns and verbs. Additionally, this would be a great kick-start to dramatics! So yaks yak and kids kid.
