There were a few, maybe only two, books back in the 80s. All I remember is Wine Red Sea or Wine Dark Sea in one of the titles. But the heroine is taken by the mer folks because she can be transformed into one of them, given gills etc..... And the book was very good about tackling her adjustment to a life unsea. If this rins a bell with anyone I'd love to re read the books.
Found it.....Across a Wine Dark Sea by Jessica Bryan. It was very original and I loved it. http://www.amazon.com/Across-Wine-Dar...
There were actually three books in the Jessica Bryan series - Beneath a Saphire Sea (with a merman) and Dawn on a Jade Sea. I still have my orignal copies and think I may need to go back and read them again!
have you guys checked out Last Night I Swam With a Mermaid? It's only $25 and you can buy it at www.lastnightiswamwithamermaid.com
There is a brand new Mermaid book out there called NaLee you can find it at NaLee2010.com...342 pages of pure mermaid fantasy!! Check it out!!!
i can't wait to read this i think i will love this are these books realy good i realy want to read this book's so bad.
Ugh! I remember reading this book from my elementary school library ages ago about this mermaid girl. It was in a series and there was some sort of competition, but I remember she was betrayed by a friend near the end of the book. Not a lot to go on, I know, but if anyone has any ideas as to what book I'm talking about I would appreciate it! I really want to find this book again since I never got to finish reading the series!

YES I think I know what you're talking about. Some of them had legs, some didn't. There was an air chamber where they kept books. There was some sort of nursery that raised creatures that had a physic bond to the queen or something... am I thinking of the same one?

PourakaI'd love for you to check out Pouraka. It's an underwater romance. I think you will like it. It's new. There's a short story prologue that introduces it too on Amazon.
I'm really liking "Updrift", by Errin Stevens. She really "fleshes out" the whole nature of what being a "hygromorph" ("their term") really is - physically, spiritually, and how they function in their own society and with human ones. A bit of hot fish/two-legger bodice-ripping romance is involved as well. This new author keeps a thinking reader happy in all the ways a good book should, while maintaining her beautifully written prose to immerse us (pun intended) fully into the world of these magnificent beings.
I have to reccomend 'Salva Me - the untold story of mermaids' by Joanna Beatty. Its awesome! Its the kind of book you just cant put down, and it stays with you!
