Emma Blue You are not the only one, Kiiks.

message 2: by Shawna (new)

Shawna Perhaps instead of turning down your nose at those of us who love romance heroes and vampires, you should nominate your favorite male book character and see how many votes 'he' generates. Just a thought! :)

message 3: by Auntee (new)

Auntee Maybe there should be a "Non-romance" best male character list? It could be all "literary classics".

message 4: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Well said Shawna. If you haven't read the books or don't like the choices available, add to the list. That's what I did! It's a very simple process ...

Tammy Auntee wrote: "Maybe there should be a "Non-romance" best male character list? It could be all "literary classics"."

Best male character in a classic? I like that idea! Even the classics have a happy ending. =)

message 6: by Shawna (new)

Shawna That's a good idea Auntee!

Tammy wrote: "If you haven't read the books or don't like the choices available, add to the list. That's what I did! It's a very simple process ..."

Very true Tammy! I added a couple to the list that are non-romance, like Lonesome Dove because Augustus 'Gus' McCrae is one of my favorite male characters, ever!

message 7: by Z.A. (new)

Z.A. Maxfield I love Laura Kinsale's Male characters, they're some of my favorite men from Romance novels EVAH. Her Green Knight, for example or her Hawaiian ninja dude from The Shadow and the Star... The Prince of Midnight. That woman can write a man to love...

message 8: by Z.A. (new)

Z.A. Maxfield I do think for literary classics you can't beat Mr. Darcy.

Z.a. wrote: "I do think for literary classics you can't beat Mr. Darcy."

I've always preferred Edward Rochester, myself.

message 10: by Z.A. (new)

Z.A. Maxfield Edward Rochester. **shudders** Must be because I've only seen the films.

message 11: by new_user (new)

new_user Frankly, if you find Pip from Great Expectations to be the best male character, romance aside, then I can't sympathize, LOL. Now... Rochester or Darcy or any other number of characters in fiction, I can understand.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Ah, Edward! He's dark, mysterious, and wealthy. What more could a girl ask for?

message 13: by Kami (new)

Kami I tend to like the tortured soul/misunderstood/underdog male characters the best. Thankfully there are plenty of them to choose from!

Danielle The Book Huntress Right there with you, Rachel. If he's all of the above, sign me up!

message 15: by Kate (new)

Kate I can't believe I am the first person to include Pete Hamill's Forever and Northriver! I fell in love with the leads by the second page!

message 16: by Kami (new)

Kami Danielle, I'm usually content if the lead male is just one of those things, but all three... NICE!

You've definitely peaked my interest, Katherine. :)

Danielle The Book Huntress Great minds think alike, Rachel.

Katherine I need to check those books!

message 20: by Terry (new)

Terry Smith Angus McCaskill, from Dancing at the Rascal Fair was an interesting male.

message 21: by Rialyn31 (new)

Rialyn31 Jace Wayland of course!
He is funny ! Very sarcastic! Sexy and hot!
For me.. he is the Best Male Character! :)

message 22: by Northern (last edited Dec 21, 2009 05:57PM) (new)

Northern K Sunderland I can't seem to find Atlus Shrugged anywhere on this list. And there are so many incredible male characters to choose from!
Francis D'anconia, Ragnar Danneskjold, John Galt, for god's sakes!

Adding now...

message 23: by Northern (new)

Northern K Sunderland Kiiks wrote: "...romantic, lover-type characters?? Or vampires. I am so sick of vampires."

I agree. I guess unless you're a strapping, lustful lumberjack, or a brooding, teenage blood sucker you won't make it very far on this list.

Don't forget Hank Reardon!

message 25: by Deidre (new)

Deidre Edward Cullen? Really guys? Really? Ugh. I am ready for the new trend to set in. I am so sick of the vampire franchise.

message 27: by Ayushi (new)

Ayushi I agree atlas shrugged should be here

Adrianna [SypherLily] The Innocent Mage (Kingmaker, Kingbreaker, #1) by Karen Miller

Asher is amazing and by far my favorite male character out of any book I've ever read.

message 29: by Betelgeuze (new)

Betelgeuze Why on Earth is a book in which the male lead is a stalker with a scent fetish no. 1?

message 30: by Nallely (new)

Nallely Francisco D'Anconia!!!! I loved him in Atlas Shrugged! I agree this book should be on the list :)

message 31: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Edward Cullen makes me feel ill. I would have slapped him in the face and told him to take a midol. Lord, he irritates me.

Charles Lutwidge Dodgeson as a character in Alice I have Been is one of the most interesting. Not the best but fascinating.

Thanks for posting Hornblower!

message 33: by Hira (new)

Hira Why is Edward on top of the list?He doesn't deserve to be there.Man,I hate him.

message 34: by Cody (last edited Apr 11, 2011 06:44PM) (new)

Cody I don't mind some romance books, (who doesn't have the guilty pleasure of reading about intimacy and sex), but all the vampire books that have started coming out since Twilight are getting to be a bit much. I think it's time for a new fad in the book world. But that's just me.

message 35: by Taylor (new)

Taylor Kiiks wrote: "Another thing~why is it that the majority of the male characters this list revolves around must be romantic, lover-type characters?? Or vampires. I am so sick of vampires."

Agreed!

Kogiopsis *twitchtwitch*
PATCH is above Edmond Dantes? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? AND WESTLEY?
Someone please explain to me how a fallen angel who tries to kill his love interest multiple times rates that high.
I DON'T UNDERSTAND.

And Edward is #1??????

message 38: by Kogiopsis (new)

Kogiopsis That I expected.

But under no circumstances should Patch rate higher than Westley. NO. CIRCUMSTANCES.

So many things Anila, so many, many things. All we can do is shake our heads and weep for the future.

Colette-writer-reader-dork How could anyone vote any of the male characters in twilight as the best? Ugh!

message 42: by Kogiopsis (new)

Kogiopsis The mind boggles.

Agreed, agreed, agreed. I don't even like Mr.Darcy and I don't understand how Edward Cullen beat him. Or how Patch beat Harry Potter. Or how Daniel Grigori is on this list at all. Abusive jerk love interests who say over and over how little they want to do with you? That's what's required to be 'the Best'? *facekeyboard*

message 44: by Breanne (new)

Breanne This vote is for Ren and Kishan. Tiger saga all the way!!!!

message 45: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Hmmm...so we have a controlling, stalker-like, abusive sparkly vampire in first place for best character...Ok then.

message 46: by Rika (new)

Rika How is Edward Cullen the best ??????

message 47: by Heather (new)

Heather Becca wrote: "The Summoning

I don't want to look through the whole list. But Derek from the Darkest Powers Series had better be there."

i don't know, he kinda gives me the creeps. simon is much nicer.

message 48: by Christy (new)

Christy Try a new book, DREAM OF ME by Jennifer Froelich. Colin is not a vampire or a "god" or any of the other fads. He is just a really great guy who meets a real girl in his dreams. You will love him! Amazon has it.

message 49: by Emily V (last edited Nov 05, 2011 01:12AM) (new)

Emily V Frostbite's up there so that should mean Adrian! But he's still under Edward Cullen! He sparkles is that not bad enough???

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

Tam Lin (Sir John) in The Ballad of Young Tam Lin. Handsome, sexy, sensual, and torn between love for the mother of his unborn child, and his devotion to the eternal Goddess who is the Queen of Summerland.
