So, I finished this book today, and I still kinda don't know what was going on. Things became a little more clear as I read, but I had a hard time picturing things, or really knowing the whys or hows. It was definitely interesting and entertaining, and once I settled in to just enjoy the story and not worry so much about "getting it", it was a lot easier to like. This book was stunning! (The audiobook was great too.) The characters - especially Harrow and Gideon - were great fun and well fleshed out. There was mystery, intrigue, adventure, and wonder. I just loved it.

It was hard to keep track of the characters. There were character studies in the back of the book - which I enjoyed - but it would have been nice to have a Dramatis Personae in the front too.

This book really surprised me. I don't know exactly what I was expecting, but I certainly was not expecting such an entertaining ride!

Gideon was a delight throughout. She's full of wit and, yes, sick of everyone's shit. Even so, she is surprisingly sensitive. I grew to really care about her, and I wanted to see her succeed in escap ...more

I loved the idea of this book far more than the execution. I wish I had any sense of Gideon’s goal/want/need or any ability to follow the plot and its convoluted cast of characters. An interesting world weighed down by its secrets - too many of which kept the reader in the dark until it was too late. So disappointing.
