What Members Thought

I loved it. I read it in less than 24 hours, and really liked that neither of the protagonists was a skinny white kid that was actually really good- looking but didn't think he or she was. I was never Eleanor, or Park, but both of them are so underrepresented in books, movies and just about everywhere that I began the story loving them. And it's just such a real novel. No perfection, no pretense. I really did love it.

Have you ever put off reading a book because you know that there is no way it can be as perfect as it is, unread, in your head? That's been the case for me with Eleanor and Park. I've read Rowell before (Attachments) and I've purchased Fangirl, and I want to read it, but first I knew I needed to pick up E&P. So, as I sit here coming off of a brutal first semester of graduate school and many, many books read that have challenged me, I knew I needed to pick something up that would make me laugh, a

Does RR seed the pages of her books with crack or what? Like Fangirl, this completely enveloped me. It was bleak and intense and just like for the main characters the highs felt so high and the lows felt so low.

Every once in awhile there comes a book which takes your breath away, a book that you basically read in one sitting. This was Eleanor & Park.

I don't think anyone has ever written first love the way Rowell does. Dear god. Rip my heart right out of me, why don't you?

I finished "Eleanor & Park" by Rainbow Rowell yesterday, recommended by Kristen Schaefer. I essentially devoured it in one night. I have loved Rowell since Rita suggested "Attachments" and E&P is another example of Rowell's superior talent of describing the beginning stages of love. This one is about first love and she definitely captures the breathlessness of it all. Made me a little nostalgic.

I remember being 15. And this felt very true. Ah, first love. Who wouldn't love Eleanor? Or park??

This is the second book Rainbow Rowell book I've read, and it won't be the last. Her writing really resonates with me, and I can't wait to read more.
