The Illusionists by Rosie Thomas, Dogs and Goddesses by Jennifer Crusie, and The Magician's Lie by Greer Macallister are three I've recently read. Hope I didn't accidentally deplete all the options in 2014. Oh and Night Circus by Erin Morganstern would definitely count.

I just finished reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I originally was going to use this book to satisfy the category of from your childhood but since have found a different novel for that. This book was one of the first novels that I read and reading it again just reminded me of how much I still enjoy this series.

I wondered if anyone was going to use any of the Harry Potter books for this prompt! I love rereading them every few years. I feel like I find something else in them each time I read them.

I totally agree! There really is something new to discover each time you read the books. I also find that I am reminded of all the differences between the books and the movies. My plan is to re-read the whole series this year at some point!

I just finished A Modern Witch by Debora Geary. Lots of witches, lots of magic. It was pretty ok, but it was also kind of bland. But it was a welcome change of pace after reading Revival, which was a lot heavier.

I started reading the"Undine" trilogy by Penni Russon for my trilogy but have now used these books for a book with magic. I loved the first two books, but felt the last book diverted so much from the story it almost made no sense.

I finished reading The Wee Free Men, by Terry Pratchett a couple of days ago. My husband read this book to our 8 year old daughter earlier this year, then she carried it in her backpack, reading it herself, then she insisted I read it to her, so she experienced this books three times in about 9 months. I can understand why she loves it so much. There is humor, some suspense, a lot of adventure, and an incredibly likable heroine. Tiffany Aching is not a perfect girl, very resentful of her little brother, but she has such a strength and courage about her. As you read, you see her become more secure in her own person and it is beautiful.

Another slightly twisted choice: I stumbled onto Briar Rose by Robert Coover which does feature some magic since it's a (pretty grim) rewriting of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale. I like the way it fits: it does feature magic, hence qualifying for that category, while being anything but a book about magic.

Yet another book I probably wouldn't have read without the challenge, even though it had been sleeping for years (not a hundred years though) on our bookshelves.

I, too, read The Night Circus but disagree with most of you. I found it a good book. I have nothing against it. I just didnt find I was reaching for it...and it really slowed me down. I was glad to finish it. GLad to know what happened but glad to move on to something else.

I also hopped on board the Neil Gaiman train and read The Sleeper and the Spindle. It was pretty great, and Chris Riddell's illustrations were very fitting. It's an interesting take on both Sleeping Beauty and Snow White and I definitely recommend it both for fans of Gaiman and of Fairy Tales in general.

Piers Anthony's Xanth series is my guilty pleasure lol I love them despite knowing they are trite with rampant horrible puns and borderline inappropriate/sexist in their sexual conquests... I went with one I hadn't read yet for this prompt (luck of the draw)
