Yep. I remember thinking, when I saw Lion King, that it was Kimba in different colours.

October 2023 Word of the Month - Celebrating 100 Years of Disney / THE LION KINGThe Lion King, released in 1994, is an animated, musical/drama feature film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation. It holds the record as the highest-grossing traditionally animated film in history. In 2016, the film was chosen for preservation by the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
Containing elements of Hamlet and Macbeth, the story centres on Simba, the lion prince, who must overcome the loss of his father and his villainous uncle, Scar, in order to take his rightful place as the king of the Pride Lands. It must also have been inspired by, Kimba the White Lion, the 1950s Japanese manga series, as it bears many similarities.
Simba, son of Mufasa and Sarabi, is destined to be king of the Pride Lands, but when Mufasa is murdered by his treacherous brother, Scar, Simba is tricked into taking the blame, and exiled. He finds refuge in a jungle oasis with Timon, a wisecracking meerkat, and Pumbaa, a gluttonous warthog, who raise Simba as his adoptive fathers. Here, Simba leads a joyful life of "Hakuna Matata", with no worries until the outside world catches up with him.
Simba is forced to confront his troubled past when he discovers that the Pride Lands have fallen into disarray during his evil uncle's tenure. He manages to overcome the usurping Scar with the help of Nala, his lioness friend and future wife; Timon; Pumbaa; Rafiki the mandrill, shaman and Royal Mjuzi; and, Zazu, the highly anxious red-billed hornbill, advisor to the crown. He is then able to take his vital place in the "Circle of Life".
