August 2023 Word of the Month - Celebrating 100 Years of Disney / THE ARISTOCATSThe Aristocats is a 1970 animated film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released on December 24, 1970. The film is based on a story by Tom McGowan and Tom Rowe, and revolves around a family of aristocratic cats, and an alley cat who helps them when the butler catnaps them to gain his mistress' fortune.
Thomas O'Malley is a smooth-talking, streetwise cat who relishes his life of freedom out in the open with no rules and no responsibilities. All of this changes when he meets & falls in love with Duchess. He flirts with & serenades her but is a little perturbed upon learning she has children. However, O'Malley almost instantly bonds with the kittens and becomes like a father to them. When faced with adversity, O'Malley ferociously protects the ones he loves.
Duchess is the mother of Marie, Berlioz, and Toulouse. She is elegant, beautiful and ladylike; a pet to an aristocrat. She is kind and friendly to everyone, and devoted to her owner, Madame Adelaide Bonfamille. She is a caring and protective mother, encouraging her children to become proper members of French society. She also is a connoisseur of music and, presumably, teaches her kittens to sing and play the piano.
