88432 The Grave's a Fine and Private Place (Flavia de Luce, #9) by Alan Bradley

Would this cover work for Green 8? It's looks kind of a weird yellowish-green but in real life it's definitely more green but I'm not sure if it's enough.

I learned my lesson also this year! I picked up 2 long, difficult books and wound up giving up. I'm still behind my reading goal - but there is still plenty of time to make it up. :)

Could work for mini @ 4 colors this time? If no one else has one.

I'm not sure yet at this point what color cards I'll be reading next month - if I have one I'll post it, but I don't mind if others want to plan for it.

One month of UNO almost down! And we are doing great!

Mini: B40. Read a book that connects some way to life in a small town or village: places, activities, institutions, etc. or what you would like to have at your imaginary settlement = Author's family moves from a Baltimore suburb to Northern Minnesota - farms, cows, crops, etc.

Could also work for a building on the cover? Farm building

88432 Sorry for your loss Däna.

I'll finish my three books on the SS before the end of the month.

If You Lived Here You'd Be Home By Now could easily fit with Mini task B40 as that is what the whole book is about - Read a book that connects some way to life in a small town or village: places, activities, institutions, etc. or what you would like to have at your imaginary settlement.

Or it could fit with 9 as well as my other reads The Lincoln Highway or Interred With Their Bones. Read a book with at least 4 different colours on the cover (percentage does not matter, letters of the title/author count as well)

88432 I'm here and struggling to finish my two books so far - hoping my reading will pick up soon. I haven't been in a slump like this before - very unfortunate timing but I will pull through!
Feb 05, 2022 07:02PM

88432 @Alyana - no colored cards claimed here - and thank you! I hope to get my act together by March. Appreciate you reading extra!

@Annalisa - thank you! You will definitely be picking up my slack. I over-read in the Tower Teams so I am now paying for it - both a slump and picking "bad" books. Thank you again!

@Insiyah - great! Don't hold back! At this point my goal is 3 books (originally pledged 5 and now one won't count -- oops).

Thanks everyone for your support!

@Maggie - we got you! I hope things are looking up already. Keep going -- this is just temporary...HUGS!!!

Ack! I'm off to a bad start - I'll need someone to cover my deficit. It will be about 2 weeks before I can start and finish this book (it's super long) so if we have some speedy readers who can cover a couple for me that would be VERY helpful. *I'm looking at you Alyana ;) !

88432 Question - I started to listen to Possession in January but quit the audiobook to special order a print book to my library. It just now came in and it's huge. I am starting over with the book - this can count towards this challenge, correct?
Jan 30, 2022 07:06PM

88432 @Maggie - I appreciate your insights. After being a young child bookworm, I dropped off reading in later school years, picked it up again as a young adult, then dropped it, then re-picked it up in my 30s. I made myself finish most books even if I wasn't enjoying them. After audiobooks started working for me in my 40s I continued to push myself to finish reads while doing one print and one audio at a time. Now in my late 40s, I am getting frustrated with some audio, knowing that I would probably love the print. So I've now discovered that I should quit an audio and switch to the print if desired. I've also decided if I hate the print book I've started, I now have permission to quit. 100 pages is a good marker for me. I'm glad my reading hobby continues to evolve as I've changed. I think I just need to give myself permission to change (for the better!).

88432 I really need to finish the two books I'm on so I can get going 2/1! They're both a couple of slogs and I'm in a slump so the sooner I can get through them the happier I'll be. UNO is definitely a motivator!

I have some random other challenges I do, old books on the TBR list challenge and 12+4. Besides the Towers and Wheel, does anyone know of these similar reading group challenges? I like the teamwork when it's not too strict or particular/specific topics or with minimum reads like 10 books a month :). I know some people can do it - not me!
Jan 18, 2022 07:16PM

88432 Maybe both the tracking sheet and the completion post then - since I'll have to refer back to the sheet anyways to reference what it works for. I hate to duplicate efforts though. I'll just go with the majority rule.
Jan 17, 2022 12:59PM

88432 @Annalisa - maybe! It's so hard to keep track of who teammates are sometimes in these challenges - I'll for sure remember you now! ;)

I read Lincoln and the Bardo. It would be way too confusing on audio IMO. There are a lot of characters, which you somewhat get to know in the print book as you can flip back. Someone warned me, so I knew not even to try and listen. I'm getting better with my audiobooks - I'm choosing more carefully and trying to keep the audio the "easier" ones.

88432 Cute story but the writing was kind of juvenile. It's gotten a lot of hype though and overall positive reviews.
