I loved your review of the book, Debi. It is interesting when you like what a book has to say, but not the book itself. I have read a few like that myself. Have you ever seen the Stanley Kubrick film? I don't think it had the redemptive ending either.

I am reading Cinder as my book this month. :)

8565 I am actually looking forward to seeing what this genre is all about. It is a really new one for me.

8565 I'll probably start with The Book of Life since I just finished with the first book in the series. Might as well start with the longest one, right?

The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy, #3) by Deborah Harkness - I loved this series.

The Wednesday Daughters by Meg Waite Clayton - like this title."

Thanks Lauren - I just finished A Discovery of Witches and loved it.

8565 Thanks for the recommendations, all. And as Bea said - we are ready to read!

I never seem to be able to finish Tien's games, lol. You are in good company. They are a lot of fun, though. She is so creative!

I may actually have to try the series that Dee and you were talking about if it has a different take on immortals. I am always looking for something different.

Did you try to read it and couldn't?

8565 My picks:

Dee

An Inconvenient Wife
Luck Be Delanie - Love this title
Love, Technically - And this title, too.

Lauren

What Remains of Heaven - a series I really want to start
Fireproof - I just started this series and am on book 3. I love them.
The Crossing Places - another series I want to start.

Bea

Never Let Me Go - This was a 5 star book for me.
Storm Front - My favorite series of all time. The first books are a bit average, but stick with it. They build on each other and it gets REALLY good.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - Beautiful book.

Fiarlee - sorry you are dropping out for this round. Hope it is a good reason. Sign ups for the next round will start on July 15th. Hope to see you then.

8565 Sorry for the confusion everyone. I was thinking I would give everyone until June 1 to sign up. I will go ahead and make the pairings tonight and they should be up in the morning.

8565 I am enjoying all of the suggestions from those who are more familiar with the genre. :)

8565 I will be really interested to see which books you all like the best.

8565 Interesting choice. I was doing a challenge that asked to read a book from a non-traditional genre and I couldn't come up with one. Well, now I have. I have gone through the first four pages of the list before I found any books that I have listed as wanting to read, and to page 5 before I found one that I have read.

I think I will try to go with either:

Quicksilver
Cinder
Or
Cryptonomicon

8565 A new one not on the list, but it just came out this month and it DEFINITELY fits the bill, all the way down to the Gothic mansion as the centerpiece.

House of Echoes by Brendan Duffy

Journalist Brendan Duffy's debut novel is deliciously creepy. Ben and Caroline move away from the city to a small village in Upstate New York with their two boys. The plan is to renovate an old mansion into a B&B. The book gripped me from the first page and is one of those great horror books where everything seems okay on the surface, but you just know something not quite right is lurking. Just what that was, I could not quite figure out until the last 50 pages or so. Very reminiscent of 'Salem's Lot to me or probably The Shining, but I have never read that one). Highly recommended.

8565 I finished Black Water Rising, and while I enjoyed the book in general and the historical perspective of the Black Liberation Movement from the early 70s, I found the main character quite annoying. In fact, I found both he and his wife quite annoying and wished other characters had a bigger part in the book.

Wow, Susan you are cranking along. Sorry you were disappointed in the book.
