8565 I have always wanted to read Daughter of the Forest, so I might see if I can get my hands on that one. Other than that, I have a copy of Stardust that I have been wanting to read, too. Plus I have a book of Victorian Fairy Tales to read (Victorian Fairy Tales: The Revolt of the Fairies and Elves)

8565 Thanks to Susan, our shelf picker for September, the shelf this month is Fairy Tales

What books from the list will you read?

What is your favorite Fairy Tale of all time? Is there a new retelling of it on the list? Do you prefer the newer versions of the fairy tales, or would you rather stick with the old tried and true versions?

I have yet to read any Murakami. I'm guessing I should start with 1Q84?

Yep - if you chose to read 2 books, both of them can certainly be from the same person. :)

I think you are right, there are a lot of Aussie books on your list, which I haven't been seeing lately. Cam used to be my Aussie book recommender...As I said, a lot of them looked really interesting.

ACK!! I hate when that happens with a book. I had that happen just a few months ago. I looked everywhere for the book, and I have it listed on here as a book I own, but could not find it anywhere. I ended up having to wait and get it from the library. I don't lend books out very much, though, as I have had a lot of trouble getting them back.

Fairlee - thanks for the recommendations. Just a couple of items on your posts:

1. You posted two sets of recommendations for me (Lyn), which should I use?

2. Tien is going to read 2 books, so you need to recommend 3 for her, not just two.

3. Amanda's list is now posted, so you can pick for her. She gets 3 books, too.

4. We still do not have a list to pick for you from. Did you want us to just pick from your to read shelf?

8565 Here are mine for the ones who have their shelves listed:

Charity:

The Old Man and the Sea - I would love to see what you think of this story. I have a really hard time with Hemmingway and am always looking for others views on his work.
The Secret Life of Bees - I really enjoyed this book.

Tien: (Most of the books on your list I have never heard of, but there are a lot that look fascinating)

The Street of a Thousand Blossoms - Gail Tsukiyama is one of my favorite authors. I need to read this book, too. I've owned it forever.
The Lost Symbol - I have loved ALL of Dan Brown's books.
The Invention of Wings - I loved The Secret Life of Bees, and am dying to read this one.

Amanda:
The Secret Garden - One of my top books of all time.
The Portrait of a Lady - I read a lot of classics in high school and this one I really liked.
Brave New World - There are a few books that I think everyone should read at least once in their life to give them perspective and this is one of them.

Fairlee:
Deadly Currents - I thought this book was thoroughly enjoyable.
Three to Get Deadly - These books are so much fun
Naked in Death - I know quite a few people who love this series
Whose Body? - These books are classics.
