7638 We're supposed to get another blizzard, Ive really got my fingers crossed for it to materialize into something. We did a quick trip to see my sister and her family on crummy roads Friday then home Saturday. But hopefully I'll have a productive day of reading and doing the laundry. (and hoping for a snow day tomorrow!!!!!)

7638 It doesn't stay down. It's quite a ride though.

7638 I recorded Bag of Bones, and I hated it. I watched the first hour and had to stop. LAME. :(

7638 I just finished The Bingo Palace by Louise Erdrich. The writing is beautiful, but there is not much plot at all. Mostly observing various members of the Chippewa tribe on a reservation in ND. It's more of a 3.5 star for me, but the writing is gorgeous, so it got nudged up to 4.

7638 I'm so glad you posted. I just got a couple library books for my nook hd and they won't open. I hadn't had time to mess with it. This will help.

7638 A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is on sale for $2.99. it was one of our Bee books and it was a great read.

7638 I read this one based on a "what to read next" site after being blown away by Cutting for Stone. This one was great and exposed me to history I didn't know existed.

7638 Today is the 27th anniversary of the Challenger explosion. Anyone else have vivid memories? I was in 2nd grade and home sick with pneumonia. I thought it had to be some mistake. Anyone else work vivid memories?

I'm interested to hear what you think of the new Moning book. I was totally sucked in to the Fever series. I was pretty much worthless while I read all those books. I was so glad I started the series after it was all published.

Oh no!!!! What a job. :( So sorry you're having drama.

7638 I finished up with this one a few days ago. There are some really strong, poignant parts and then several "this really is a first novel" parts. I will be interested to see what the rest of you think.
7638 I have to see this one. I have issues with movies, I'm rarely in the mood to watch one. If I have a block of time available of usually rather read. :)

7638 So, did any of us stick with this one? I think this may be one of the few stinkers we've ever chosen...

7638 Amy, it was SOOOOOOOOO good. I want everyone to read it. I was actually totally put off by the cover - isn't that nuts? One would think that a sweet happy cover like that would be inviting, but I thought it looked just too fluffy. I grabbed it as my storm read last weekend and I just hated putting it down. I've already sent a couple Amazon gift cards with instructions to download the book immediately.

7638 I finished Beach Music last night - WHAT AN AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL WONDERFUL BOOK!!!!! Thanks a million to Marly for this gift via the Holiday Exchange, and thanks to Amy for recommending it. Incredible sweeping drama that spanned 3 generations and a group of childhood friends whose lives became utterly intertwined. I hated going to work this week because putting it down was awful. LOVED IT.

This morning I started The Art of Racing in the Rain which had some of the same themes, oddly enough. I had no idea when I started reading it that it would dovetail so nicely with Beach Music, but I read that one in a couple hours. The writing was very simple, but the story was fabulous and moving.

I've now picked up The Bingo Palace which I've been meaning to read for years. I read Love Medicine while in college, but I have had a little harder time popping back into this one.

I tried In the Woods and wasn't able to get into it. I've heard such rave reviews, so I kept it and figure I'll try again. How long did it take to hook you?

7638 Tovenaarsglas (De Donkere Toren, #4) by Stephen King (Wizard & Glass - but this was the cover!) was the first book Mike ever bought me, so it's got a special place in my heart. :)

I loved The Drawing of the Three (The Dark Tower, #2) by Stephen King . That still might be my favorite of them.

I'm looking at my shelves and trying to remember who has some of my books - I'm missing about half the series, and I know I own the whole thing!

7638 As I just finished The Stand, I'll participate but not read again. I'll join in if you guys do the Dark Tower later. It's been several years since I read the first books in that series.

7638 I'm frustrated with it too...I don't like struggling through the language. It's not fun to read. I will try a bit longer as I do like the other book dive read by him.
