7638 Seriously. It was way too long. I honestly stopped caring about the character WAY before the end. Not enjoyable, IMO.

7638 I loved Inside Out and The Force Awakens. I thought The Martian was good, but it was too far from the book, IMO.

I saw The Revenant last weekend and I did not enjoy that at all.

7638 I find when I set goals, they give me a reason to procrastinate.

My biggest hope for this year is to find balance. I tend to overdo in most areas - I do more at work than needed, I try to fix all the issues for my family members and really stress when I can't...

So, I need to find balance. And, I too have started using essential oils and doing more journalling to see if that helps.

7638 My favorite spots also depend on mood and where my kids are at...

End of the day is my bed. I have a bookcase in my bedroom devoted to books I haven't read. I also have my charging station for my Kindle, Nook and Phone.

If the kids are downstairs watching TV, then it's the right corner of my living room couch. If the kids aren't watching TV, then it's my library. Sometimes it's my library regardless. :) I love that room, but the noise from the family room can make it less enjoyable.
FTM: Non-fiction (27 new)

7638 I'm on the side that totally struggles with non-fiction. I read it much more slowly, which drives me bonkers. I need the narrative - the non-fiction I've enjoyed have been Tiny Beautiful Things Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar by Cheryl Strayed Wild From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed In Cold Blood by Truman Capote The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls Under the Banner of Heaven A Story of Violent Faith by Jon Krakauer

I can listen to these on audio much more easily than I can read them.
FTM: Classics (27 new)

7638 I have tried to enjoy Austen and can't - but I loved the movie adaptations with Keira Knightly.

I too read lots of classics as a kid, because my mom bought me books she had loved, so my earliest novels were Little Women, Little Men, Jo's Boys, the entire Anne of Green Gables series, The Secret Garden, The Swiss Family Robinson, Tom Sawyer....and of course Trixie Belden and Nancy Drew.

I think my main drive now to tackle classics is that it ties me to readers across generations. Even when I don't love the stories, I typically am so amazed at how constant we as people are. Mothers love their children. Passion can drive people to bad decisions. Gossip is eternal...whether the characters have the same tech as us, the human span of emotions, thoughts and feelings is so unchanging, and I think that makes me feel more connected. (I hope that makes some sense!)

7638 As far as the reluctant reader - my husband is my toughest subject. He LOVED Ready Player One and recommended it to others as well.

My daughter likes the IDEA of books but never seems to want to actually read them. Collect them, YES? Read..."

Gabe used to be that way too - he then discovered the I Funny series, which was a step up, but still had enough kid humor to entertain him.

7638 My Pandora station is usually set to musicians like Ingrid Michelson, Regina Spektor, Of Monsters and Men. Pink. I rarely attend concerts, but did get to see Billy Joel with Adonica last May, and will see Adele in July.

7638 Hello my Bee Friends -

On the 29th it'll be 3 months since Jason's death. Then last Sunday on the 11th a classmate of my daughter's was killed in a terrible snowmobile accident. That has made Jason's death and the grieving process sort of reset for my kids. It's been a difficult few months, and my reading life has changed but I'm hoping that as the time passes that there will be more moments for joy than for sad.

I find that as my emotions fluctuate, so does my reading taste. Some days I want a book that's going to be as bleak as I feel. Others I just want brain candy that will entertain me and offer the most distraction for my lack of energy.

One of the most difficult things I'm finding is that I have all of this desire to write, to create...but I don't have the ideas or attention span to do it. I'm trying to write down the snippets of ideas as they come, but it's been a very frustrating time.

Missing my booking with you all - ready to hop back in.
