721 I wasn't over the moon about the audiobook narration of AA Fiona McIntosh's The Orphans, but it was fine. The actual story was great.

721 Ghost Girl, Banana is the debut novel of British screenwriter Wiz Wharton. In my opinion it's a successful transition to long-form writing that retains some of the features that make (good) screenwriting so compelling. I really enjoyed it.

721 There is what looks to be a great crime-writing panel discussion coming up in Hawthorn on 11 September. Organised by Boroondara Library Service.

721 AA Gabriel Bergmoser's latest novel (a standalone), The Caretaker, was a good read but failed to reach the heights of his adult fiction debut, for me.

721 Roman Dial took me off to the jungles of Costa Rica in The Adventurer's Son. Slow to start, but with a strong middle and heartbreaking end, I'm glad I read this book.

Don’t you think that the name ‘cycad’ just sounds like something indestructible? 😆

721 Thanks to Suz for the recent review, prompting me to get hold of The No-Show by Beth O'Leary. I thought it was great, too.

721 Reading that article made me think of the Fakes & Frauds series they’ve been doing on The Book Show podcast (ABC). I mean, it’s shocking and disappointing, but it’s not the first time this has happened. I think it’s great that Hachette has taken such swift action, even if they brought it upon themselves.

721 I loved Lady Tan's Circle of Women - such a richly detailed depiction of Ming-era China, and a great story of an admirable, real-life woman.
