I felt like I recognised a greater proportion of the nominees this year, but still had not read very many. I think I voted in 2-3 categories.

No Good Deed gave me the opportunity to read and learn about the Central African Republic, and it was a good story too.

Anyone who enjoys a few murderous thrills with their Christmas cheer should consider Peace by AA Garry Disher, #2 in the Hirsch series. I loved it and gave it 4.5★

I can’t find much about it, but Sarah Bailey has a new Gemma Woodstock (#4) called Body of Lies coming out in March 2024. Also keen for that one!

Motherland by Paula Ramón is well worth a read if you've ever wondered how Venezuela got into its current situation.

Black Butterflies covers the first 10 months of the siege of Sarajevo. It's a very accessible story, whether you've read nothing or a lot about this period.
