As I am reading the novel, I can tell you that the world is very different -- transformed -- but our Amish narrator is fundamentally the same throughout. Which sounds like it is a "no" for this task. I'll keep looking for a book, then, and maybe get inspired by what other RWSer's read :)

Would When the English Fall qualify? It's a fictional diary of an Amish farmer. The diary begins before non-Amish civilization collapses and continues through the collapse and describes what happens afterwards. So .... "passing through some event" would be the collapse of civilization. And the diary begins before the collapse! Thanks!

That "features" an actual famous person -- are cameos included? I'm reading No Time Like the Past and Sandro Botticelli is present for half a chapter. There may be other cameos of famous people in later chapters.
