36119 Task 20.7 Unification Season: Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. US -- Publ: 1972

+20 Task
+10 Combo (10.3 Fall B-Day 10/39/37, 20.2 Banned Books, Part B)

Grand Total = 725

I really enjoyed this book set in rural New Mexico just after WWII. I learned more about the Catholic religion than I expected. The author wonderfully captured the back-and-forth bantering that goes on between a group of pre-teen boys. Some scenes were comic, but some were tragic. I was pleasantly surprised!

The book needs to be set on a farm, not a ranch. This question was specifically asked and answered at the beginning of the challenge. (See the Help folder for this task for more info.) No points posted for this task. Please repost in a new message if you can find another task to apply this towards.

20.9 Scandinavian Noir

+ 5 Combo (10.9 Also published as The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest)
+10 Lost in Translation (Swedish)
+ 10 Jumbo (743 pages)

Task Total = 45 40

Adjusted Grand Total = 900 875

I know I'm stretching it a bit here, but I thought it was interesting that different publishers couldn't agree on where to put the apostrophe.

Good try on the Combo points, but I really don't feel like that this fits the spirit of the Task 10.9. No Combo points awarded.

I just sent a question off to Sam about the bonus points. Since you've already claimed the 100 bonus for the RtT tasks earlier, I think that only 100 more points should be added to your score for the Mega Finish. (Mega Finish = 200 points for all 30 tasks. I'm not sure if that 200 points is over and above of the RtT bonus, or if the RtT is intended to be included in the Mega Finish total.)

I'm only adding 100 points at this juncture until I get a ruling from Sam. If I've been scoring this wrong I'll go back and add 100 more points to Cheryl TX, and colleen's scores also.

The last two books shown here don't work for Task 20.7. Did you perhaps mean to use them for Task 20.8? Since they fit Task 20.8, that's where I'm going to add them in.

36119 Hi fellow travelers! I have a "Please Be Kind to the Scorekeeper" request. If we could use this folder just for posting your FINAL intinerary that will help me verify travel plans more easily as we get further into the challenge.

Please post your questions about books, authors, or routes on one of the more general Help type folders in this section. Then when you have it all sorted out, post your completed list of countries here.

Thanks! -Krista

(Off to get some points tallied for the Fall Challenge now. Boy do I REALLY want to sit down and figure out my itinerary though!)
36119 Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "which itenaries are by land and Sea and which are by Air?"

Hi Jayme: I've you're traveling by "Air" then you don't need to post an itinerary and you don't have to visit contiguous countries. But you do get fewer points for traveling this way.

Yes, I would prefer smaller posts as they are easier to manage. What I think would work best is if you posted just one message with a few books included in it to start with. Let me take a look at that message and get back to you with any comments or suggestions before you start posting your whole slug of books.

I usually only have a chance to update the score tallies on Saturday and/or Sunday. As with other folks who joined the challenge late, I will keep up with the current player's scores and work your messages in as time permits. There is a chance that I may not get all your points posted on the Readerboard before the challenge ends. (Depending on how many books you post -- and the volume of messages from other players.)

I'll note which if your messages I still need to tally when I update the scores in the Readerboard folder.

Welcome to the challenge!
