It's really a bit of a pain to try to do this scorekeeping from my laptop since I don't have a 10-key number pad attached to it. I'm going to give myself a break during the holidays -- and wait to update the scores until my new PC is installed.
I am still reviewing this folder everyday. If I have questions/comments about anything I'll post them as soon as they arise.
Thanks for your understanding about the current situation! -Krista

Hi Cheryl: I don't think that Lois Lowry is Danish. I looked her up in Goodreads and Wikipedia and both listed her as American. I can't count Number the Stars for a European stop.
I sure like your Chartered plane and Cosmos idea though! :-)

A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin

Task Total - 20
Grand Total - 45"
+5 Series points. If you want to update your original post and add these points that would be fine. I haven't tallied that post yet.

I'll bring my work laptop home tonight and start working on updating the scores. Never fear, I'll get them caught up ASAP,

I have enough books to read to get on the board soon enough.

LOL -- if you're anything like me, you're never lacking enough books to read. Thanks for your understanding!

Thanks."
Hi Tobey:
As long as the WHOLE series isn't included in the "book" entry you're okay. (See entry #1, and 4 for examples of series entries.)
A Wrinkle in Time is fine. It's shown as a single book in entry #31 on the list. You don't have to read the the whole series to claim points for this book/task combo.

I would think so, but I'll let Cheryl be the final decision maker for this. (Unless of course you're reading an anthology that has tons of author's listed. That doesn't seem to fit the spirit of the task. But as I said, Cheryl should be the one with the final say.)

It was worth a try. ..."
Yes, and it *almost* worked. I had to ponder on it for a bit before coming up with the logic behind my decision. :-)

Hi Jayme: I'm sorry I didn't get back to you with an answer to the question you posed in the Help folder. I sorting out how to respond.
This book doesn't fit the spirit of the task. I'm really looking for a book where a main character is is sent forward or back in time to experience and/or cope with their world in a different time era.
Simply travelling to another world where time moves more quickly doesn't qualify. When they return from Narnia, only a single day has passed in their 'normal' world. Correct?
Sorry, I can't approve this book for the Time Travel task. -Krista

Hi Jayme:
Not in and of itself. It would only count if the time on the other world is ahead or behind the current time set in the book. Simply travelling to another world doesn't qualify the book as time travel. The travel needs to be into the future or the past.

I just read the short blurb on it and thought it was cute. Was it not as funny as the others?
Oh and Thanks for doing all that tallying for us. I salute you!

Well these aren't children's stories, that's for sure. I listened to this in Audio format. That's the way I LOVE to experience David Sedaris' books. The animals are often used allegorically to point out the stupidity of human prejudices an views. Some of them are funny, but some of them are pretty violent and depressing. There is a lot of cursing. I wasn't that bothered by it, but want to point it out if you are. Ultimately the stories didn't captivate me, or make my laugh the way his earlier stories did. I may just have to go back and listen to Holidays on Ice again just to get back in the right David Sedaris frame of mind.
I think my all-time favorite collection of essays from him is When You Are Engulfed in Flames
Thanks for the kind words about the point tallying!

Hi Liz:
Yes, please remove the Combo points for Task 10.6 (No "L") There can't be an "L" to be found for this task. That does include subtitles.
I haven't posted these points yet so if you just want to edit your message and remove the points, that would be great. Thanks!

Glad I could help.

Task 10.1 - Turkey Coma: (Short Stories or Essays) Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary by David Sedaris
+10 Task Points
Total Task = 10
Grand Total = 10

If a single book in a series is listed as one of the Top 50 books (not the whole series) AND you read it this challenge, then yes -- you can claim points for this book.
A Game of Thrones and Eragon are both fine because they are listed individually and they are in the Top 50.

Hi Jayme:
1) The Last Battle is not one of the Top 50 books on this list. I just double checked the list, and I again didn't see it there. If I've missed it please let me know. For this task you can only use the first 50 books on the list.
2) Since only the full "Chronicles of Narnia" series appears as one of the top 50 books. You would need to read books 1-7 DURING THIS CHALLENGE in order to claim points for any of those books for this task.
If you read some of the earlier "Narnia" books before Dec 1st, then you can't claim points for the Narnia series using this task this challenge.

I am reading Obama Zombies: How the Liberal Machine Brainwashed My Generation- for task 20.10 and wanted to use combo points with 20.7 ..."
Hi Liz:
For this task lets follow the same standard we were using last quarter. When claiming points (Task or Combo) for Task 20.7, each century can only be used once for Task points, and once for Combo points.
The way you outlined claiming the points for your two books is fine. But that's it for this century after that. :-)

I read "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" by C.S. Lewis which was on the 50 best epic fantasy series as part of the Chronicles of Narnia.

Hi Jayme: Sorry, but I can't count the points for this book for this task.
Task 20.5 has this warning posted at the end of the description, "(Note: Some of the Top 50 are entire series...don't pick those unless you plan on reading the entire series.)"
This book is not listed separately on the Goodreads list. It is part of the Chronicles of Narnia Series. All seven books in the series have to be read in order to claim points for this task using that Goodreads entry.
Perhaps there's another task it would fit?
