When I was in 7th Grade, I had a teacher (in a parochial school) who would read out loud to us from this book during our quiet time right after lunch. Ugh!!

Whew, and another quarter has just about been completed. I'm proud of myself. I read about 1,000 more pages than during the Spring Challenge, and scored almost 300 more points than in the Spring. It probably helped that I switched jobs in September and I'm now only working 40 hours a week instead of the 55-60 I was averaging during the Spring. Come to think of it, if I had 15 - 20 hours a week added back to my leisure time this quarter I probably should have scored even higher.

Ah well, there's always next quarter. But I'm giving myself a pass during the Winter Challenge to read less in order to more fully participate in all the festivities.

I'm sending out a big "Thanks" to everyone who particpated in this quarter's challenge. I think it was a good one and I'm curious to see the books everyone reads in the upcoming months.

I don't know if we should disallow it just to help you stay on your stated path of only reading books from your bookshelf. Hmmmmm, nah!

I'm trying to clear out a bit of shelf space myself but I think I'd feel a bit confined if I couldn't even think about using books I didn't actually own.

This book is approved. It does encompass the years we were looking for.

Yep, Liz M is correct. I just made up a series in order to show howand where the Series points should be added in the Completed Task point tally.

While I haven't yet read this book, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes the Goodreads blurb says it's a collection of short stories.

Wiki also has more lists of the major events each year broken down by different categories like Literature, Science, Archeaology, etc.

The link below if for what happened in Literature in 1800. On the right sidebar on the page you can select different years. I found it to be pretty handy. You can do a more targeted search for your area of interest this way.

The Napoleonic Wars would fit. If a portion of the event took place during those years ('00-'10), then you can read a book about it. :-)

Hi Jayme:

This book doesn't qualify for Task 20.5. For Task 20.5, the book either needs to be about the Civil War, or set in the American South. From the book blurb it doesn't look like this book fits either one of requirements.
