35559 Oh, all the people who recommended that series in audio were right. The narrator does Harry Dresden very well since it's in first POV too. To tell the truth, I took a long break after book #7 and was on the fence continuing. The audiobook helped me make a decision. :) To summarize, go for it, Rebecca!!

35559 That's ok, Karen. I was giggling when I read that - jumping the shark? I spent a pleasant time hop-reading wikipedia about the phrase.

I started Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1) by Veronica Rossi and about 15% in, I think. So far, so good. I haven't read many dystopias so it's good to read something different.

I had a lot of listening time this week so I made a lot of headway into Proven Guilty (The Dresden Files #8) by Jim Butcher . I think I have around an hour left. So I should be done by tomorrow or Sunday at the latest. And I'm doing a happy dance - this has been the first audiobook since Harry Potter series that has worked for me. YAY!!

35559 I just finished Stormwalker (Stormwalker, #1) by Allyson James earlier today - 25 July. Onto Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1) by Veronica Rossi .

It was not just "jumping the shark" (which btw, I had to google as I've never heard that expression before.) It was more like the series didn't really work for me but I kept trying because everybody else raved about it. If everybody's raving about it, then it should be good, right? So, lesson learnt. If a series doesn't work after 2 or 3 books, then it is time to move on.

Regarding the City of Bones, the plagiarism was just soo bad. And IIRC, there was a lot of slapping going on which irritated me too. But really, I can't believe how this series became so popular given the blatant copying.

35559 Hi Rebecca! Welcome to our team!!

Karen, I completely agree about City of Bones. I couldn't read it either. I had to DNF it. I also DNF'd 2 series. The Black Dagger Brotherhood is such a popular series but i made it only to 4 books. I DNF'd the 5th. The language, the names, the physical descriptions just turned me off the series. It is one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Another book I DNF'd was This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress, #5) by Jeaniene Frost . It was #5 in the Night Huntress Series but when I started it, I felt completely lost. Turns out there was 2 books set in that world but that is not part of the main series. It was not mentioned in the book page nor anywhere else. If it wasn't part of the main series then it shouldn't have affected the events in that series. If it does, then it's your responsibility to include that info. It made me so mad. That's the second series that I DNF'd.

That's what I thought. Too bad :(

I downloaded Under the Never Sky from the library. I so love instant gratification. Then I realized, I had already bought it. Either way, I'm definitely getting to it this week.

35559 Done, TC. I'm reading Stormwalker after which I'll read another S book. I'll also start a U book. Under the Never Sky looks good. Karen, how's it so far?

35559 I'm reading Paradise (Second Opportunities, #1) by Judith McNaught which will work for P, E so far. I think it should also work for S and N but I'll confirm.

The Dragonflight (Pern, #1) by Anne McCaffrey will also work for N (char N'tan) and S (char name S'lel). If you wish to use follow the GR book page, then we'll just rearrange. I still have Stormwalker (Stormwalker, #1) by Allyson James which will work for S & N. I can read another one, possibly 2 books depending on which letters are needed.

35559 I finished Dragonflight (Pern, #1) by Anne McCaffrey and Seduction by Amanda Quick yesterday 22 July.

I now have a question - when I search for dragonflight, the search page shows it as being #1 in Pern. But the book page shows that it is #1 in Dragonriders of Peru. In the book details it is shown as #1 in Pern series too. So can we still use it for P?

35559 I have to say that is Good Omens The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett . It was like everybody and their dog loved the book. I just found it more boring than funny. It was getting to winded up to sustain my interest. And this is the reason why I'm hesitant to give Discworld series a try.

35559 Hi Team! I didn't get any reading done over the weekend. My uncle visited but more importantly, I got a new phone (Nexus 5) so I'm the shiny new phone stage. Fiddling around, transferring stuff etc.

So far, these are the stuff I'm planning to read next:

P: Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey - Series name is Pern.
S/N: Stormwalker by Allyson James. S - Title; N - character Nash (I think. Will confirm name)
S: - Seduction by Amanda Quick.

35559 Ugh. I didn't manage to get any reading done today. I started Miss Wonderful but ended up putting it down as I wasn't in the mood for it.

I have my uncle visiting tomorrow so I don't think I can do much reading tomorrow too.

35559 I finished Surrender very early this morning. It works for I - character Isabelle or N - character Cleo Nettleship.

Great job., Team!!
Jul 17, 2014 08:26PM

35559 Okie, I have an O book and a N book. I'll let you know once I finish either of them.
Jul 17, 2014 05:47PM

35559 @TC - What letters are we missing for the fourth read-through? I can plan my next read based on that..
Jul 17, 2014 05:46PM

35559 @TC - I've never seen a Perry Mason show, if you can believe it. Though I have heard plenty. I should check it out once.

@Karen - Really, I can't pick out one single character. There's Hermoine - one of arguably better portrayal of a female character in a YA fantasy. She's kick-ass but not in the physically strong method but in her intelligent, rational way. I loved how JKR made her the most intelligent student in her year. Period. Or Phedre and Joscelin from the Kushiel's Dart. They're one of the strongest character pair that I've read. Even after all the trials, their strength of character and loyalty and their love is just amazing. Lastly (only in the list), is Ganesh and Vasanth from Tamil Author Sujatha - they're such a fun pair and they made me read more books in my mother tongue.

35559 I love that card, Karen. It's so familiar. Also familiar is, "Let me just finish this chapter". My family, especially Hubs hears that a loooot.

35559 This week has been proving to be excellent. I finished another book - Mrs. Drew Plays Her Hand by Carla Kelly. I really liked it. Very refreshing to read a HR that is not set in London, balls etc. It's fully set in the country. The hero is a such a beta hero that I loved it. I loved the way the Fletcher fell for Roxie and her kids. And when there was a cause for serious misunderstanding, both the characters handled it very well. Highly recommend for HR lovers.

The book works only for C (title) or F (character Felicity, Fletcher).

I may get to another book - I usually don't get much reading done over the weekend.
Jul 16, 2014 04:24PM

35559 Done, TC. I knew I was missing something. I'm now reading Trust Me now. It can work for T(title) and I (character Ian). I should finish it by today.

I'll come back later. I'm a lot sleepy. Baby decided to get up at 3 and play. Fun!

35559 This challenge has been good for me. (Or this week) I finished another book - Family Man by Jayne Ann Krentz. Typical JAK book so an escapist + comfort read kind of book at one go. It can work F(title). Also, there's a character Nate who plays a significant role in the book. If we can use the character, then it'll work for N also.
