Let me just say that it's very beautiful here. First and foremost, we are surrounded by natural beauty. People come here on vacation and decide they want to live here. Then they just move without doing research, can't make a living here and get stuck. Some cities on the mainland offer their homeless people a one-way plane ticket to wherever they want to go. Guess where they choose? Then you have the very rich people from the continental U.S. and internationally who can afford homes here. They buy them and drive up the prices. My boring ol' neighborhood is now being bought out by outsiders! The median price for a single family home in Hawaii is $800,000. This is for a simple old 2 or 3 bedroom with no improvements! A gallon of milk is $6, cereal $5-$8... Just to give you an idea. I pay $1650 per month to rent a very basic 2 bdrm apt. Our old rental house which was a rundown shack was $1800. They wanted to raise the rent to $2000 so we had to move! Ok, I'm climbing down from my soapbox now. Sorry for my little rant, but now you know...

HA! So funny, Margaret! There are always ultra-competitive people in every group and others -- not so much. I can go either way. I already have 108 books borrowed from the library in preparation. I'm sure at least one will fit this challenge! Really like the idea of the adult beverage... Can it be slushy? :)

I'm with you, Cecily! I read through the instructions 3x, but I just cant imagine it. I'm going to have to see it. Actually it will probably be best if someone just tells me what to read till we get going. HA!

HA! Roots is indeed a book! I read it in intermediate school because I wanted to! I was always a little weird, even back then. You should try it. You'll need to devote a chunk of time and a lot of emotion. Did you get a chance to watch the new mini series? In my option, the original was better, but this was pretty awesome.

I read Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America a few years back for my face-to-face book club. I was amazed. Things are tough here in Hawaii. Lots of homelessness and folks living in their cars, in tents, etc. In this book lots of people get by by living long term in cheap motels. We don't have any cheap motels! I've identified our problem!

Hi Erika! I read A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail a while back for my face-to-face book club. I really enjoyed it. I've never hiked in my life, but Mr. Bryson made me feel like I was right there! That's why I like books!

I am totally stoked! I read through the Battleship Rules, but I really can't imagine it yet. I had a devil of a time with UNO when I first started. At least I've actually played Battleship in real life. I was clueless with UNO!

Oh no, Maritza! I had a pinched nerve in my neck a couple months or so ago and it was horrible! I couldn't even feed or dress myself. Please be careful. The silliest things can set it off. My Dr. Figured I slept funny and that started it all. Every time I have an ache or pain, I get scared again...

Shanna, I can't explain why that book stood out amongst all Isabel Allende's others, but I just loved it! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Me too, Megan! Would you believe I have 108 books out from the library? I have 20+ books in various stages of completion. I really want to complete the pre-WOBBLE challenge, too. I think it's doable except for the 'choose 1 book from someone else's favorites list.' Unless I luck out and find a book already in my possession, I'll need to find it at the library tomorrow and finish by the 17th!

35559 Sadly, I have no college textbooks to add. But I started keeping track of all my books in 2008 so I went back in time and added them all on to GR so now I have them all in one place. I am still old school and long them in a notebook...
