Too funny, Marguerite! I guess Hawaii was more progressive back in the 60s. I started Kinder in 1967 and could already read. I was a huge disruption because I was so bored! We had like 36+ children per class, so the teacher sent me to the library a lot. Thank goodness the librarian liked me! By 6th grade I'd read through all we had at school. A friend's mom was head librarian at a nearby public library & we'd go there after school several times a week. Remember the card catalog?

I was a library monitor every year from 4th grade through high school. I always thought I'd become a librarian. Little did I know you need an actual degree for that! One of my big regrets in life. I still visit every week and they keep inviting me to become a volunteer. Shoulda, woulda, coulda...

I know, I know. I'm weird. I am also a bathroom reader. I leave books all over the place -- bathroom, bedroom, living room, my desk drawer at work, my purse. I read in lines, in the car (I don't drive.) I've always been able to keep the stories straight. My favorite place to read besides at the beach is in bed in the mornings. I am working my way through my local library -- at least through the fiction. I jump around, but eventually I'll get through them all.
Nanci wrote: "Hi there team Harpy Eagles! Guess I'm a little late to the party, but it's been great reading your intros and starting to get to know you. I'm your other co-captain and I'm excited for this challen..."OMG, Nanci! You worked in education for that long! Amazing! You know you're going straight to heaven. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, just one straight shot! I worked at a preschool for 10 years, 11 if you count my first year as substitute teacher. We had 3 yr olds to Kinder. Then I was an aide & switched to school secretary. Also did 4 yrs as 1st grade Sunday school teacher. I don't know what I was thinking!
Aloha, everyone! I'm Lauri from Hawaii and I'm on Team Harpy Eagles, too. My current reads are: Midnight Bayou, Living Reed: A Novel of Korea, The Darling Dahlias and the Cucumber Tree, Mrs. Jeffries Forges Ahead, Blood Rights and Killer in High Heels.
Looking back over the posts, I don't see my original check- in which I did hours ago. Bet my fat finger deleted it! So here goes again...Aloha! I'm Lauri from Hawaii! I'm 52, happily married for 26 years. I have 1 grown son who lives at home. I work at the State Hospital (yes, mental hospital) as an office assistant in the Medical Records Unit. I love my job! Where I live, I have beautiful mountain and bay views right outside my window. I thank God for this beauty every single day. I am a serial book starter. I always read between 5-12 books simultaneously. I don't know why this is. I can put a book aside for months and then go back and finish it without re-reading. I have to have more discipline for challenges like this one.
My idea of a perfect day is reading a book at the beach! We just got back from a long weekend stay-cation at the Sheraton on Waikiki Beach. I'm still on vacation for the rest of this week and I can't wait to WOBBLE!
I can't seem to master the link thing, but I've named my shelf nbrc-wobble-2016
Right now I'm reading Midnight Bayou, Living Reed: A Novel of Korea, Blood Rights, Mrs. Jeffries Forges Ahead, The Darling Dahlias and the Cucumber Tree and Killer in High Heels most actively. A whole bunch of others less actively... 'Killer' is the first book I'm attempting to read on my iPad.

Hi, Maritza! We ride again!

Wow, Rachel! I always wanted to be a librarian or at least work in a library. I'm very friendly with all my neighborhood librarians. The library is my happy place. Congratulations on finishing your sophomore year and welcome to the challenge! I've been on GoodReads for a few years, but only became active this year. I bet you'll love it!
I'm sort of addicted to Pinterest, too. Check me out if you get a chance otwlauri...

I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada. I lo..."Marguerite, I had a very similar experience growing up - I believe the book orders were Scholastic or Weekly Reader. My Mom would allow me to order anything I wanted, even though money was tight. Everytime we went to the drugstore, I got paperbacks and comics. She never once said no. She also didn't check my choices which probably led to a lot of age-inappropriate reading! I could read before I entered Kindergarten and have never once looked back!

Amanda, I am addicted to The Walking Dead! Sometimes I'll watch it 3x in one evening. My son (adult) & I always watch the marathons. My husband, on the other hand, thinks we're quite insane.
Marguerite wrote: "Hi Everyone!!!! My name is Marguerite and I live in south central Florida. I am happily married and we just moved here back in April so I am still unpacking. We moved here from Tampa Bay FL. I love..."Marguerite, I am so jealous of your at-home library! I never had anything that big set up. We moved from a 3 bdrm. house to a 2 bdrm. apartment about 3 years ago. I tried to sell all my books at our garage sale. When I laid them out, I had 4 big tables full of books with more boxes underneath. No one wanted them! I couldn't even give then away for free! I tried to give children's books out. It was one of the saddest days of my life. After we cleaned up the sale, we took all the books and donated them to Friens of the Library. I know that it was a good thing, but I cried and cried...

I work at the State Hospital (yes, mental hospital.) I'm an office assistant in the Medical Records Unit. I love my job! It can be crazy (bad pun intended) at times, but it's good to be busy. It's very beautiful where I live with majestic mountain and bay views. I thank God every day for the beauty right outside my window. My hobbies are reading, naturally, and I also love music, theatre and movies. I'm a serial book starter and always read at least 5-12 books simultaneously. I can leave a book for months and go right back to it. I don't purchase books (no room) and don't really do the e-reader thing. I go to the public library once a week and come away with shopping bags full,of books! I'm on vacation this week and really enjoying my time. We did a stay-cation this past weekend at the Sheraton on Waikiki Beach. It was awesome!
I don't seem to be able to do the link to the shelf, but I named it nbrc-wobble-2016

I had a cat at one time and I would ask (beg!) the pet store to put the parrots and cockatoo (both demon birds if you ask me) in their cages before I could even go in the store. ..."I'm not really scared of birds per se, I just don't like them. My dad used to keep homing pigeons and when one of them would hurt a wing or leg, he'd make me hold it while he doctored it. It was just so icky to feel that fragile body in your hands with its heart beating 285. I'd cry & cry -- he'd just tell me to stop and hold it steady.
My dislike started to make sense when Jurassic Park explained that birds are descended from reptiles!
Jess wrote: "Okay I haven't read a book yet, sorry to be the one who holds us up! I've got a really busy week again this week but I'll try my hardest to get it done by the end of the week :) to be honest I have..."Not to worry Jess! You have a lot on your plate right now. We know you're on a tight deadline. Just try to relax...
