Team, if you are interested in participating in the Battle Arena week, please say so here. That way we can get input from people who want to read in that week and then respond quickly for the planning without waiting for people who don't want to commit to starting and finishing their books in that one week.

Ars Historica OR
Arsenic in the Azaleas
And they would like to know what we would prefer. Remember, it doesn't have to be a single word. So titles that start with I CAn, I CAme, I CAll, etc. would work for that first one. Or for EAS, a word like EASt or EASy would work. Or even LEASe.

so we need to read a book that has ARS in the title?"
It has to start with ARS (or you can add more of the ending letters if needed. EARS, YEARS, EYEA..."
It could even be EAR (or YEAR) and then the second word starts with an S.

so we need to read a book that has ARS in the title?"
It has to start with ARS (or you can add more of the ending letters if needed. EARS, YEARS, EYEARS, ETC). Articles can be ignored.

Each book is worth 5 points. And the winning team gets an additional 5 points. Winning is the team who reads the most of their books. If both teams read all 10, the winner is the team with the LEAST amount of overlap.

At least I think so….."
It's In Five Years.

District 2 & The Capitol and our book title is In Five Years. Essentially what is going to happen is we need to find a book that overlaps that title by at least 3 letters (it can be any 3 consecutive, so fiv, year, ars etc. ...). "
Chiming in from The Capitol here. I'm almost positive the rules specify the final 3 (or more) letters of the book title!
Sorry. I was snooping because we just can't wait to get started!
ETA: Just confirmed in the Captain's Group that it is the LAST letters of the book.

The way I envision it is this: District 2 goes first this time. So they'll pick a book that overlaps with In Five Years. They'll add it to their spreadsheet, and our spreadsheet will automatically grab that info. Hopefully they will also post here as a courtesy. Once we have been told of that book, we'll all search our books for something that can overlap with whatever their title is. If multiple of us find a book, we'll go with which ever book has a combination of the lowest overlap and the worst ending letters. Then we'll add it to our spreadsheet and they'll pick again. We'll continue this until we have all 10 books on each side selected.
The key here is that the books have to be started and finished in Week 2 of the round. So we need people to commit to that. And not over-commit. Once you have a book in the Battle, think carefully about if you can do a second one. Because it would really suck if someone can't finish a book and no one else can get a copy of that book.
Does that make sense? I can see it my head, but I'm not sure I'm communicating it well.

In order to succeed in the Arena you will need to battle with your competing District Tributes.
You have been matched with an opposition and will fight them twice (once in round 2 and once in round 3), switching who strikes first.
We've been matched with District 2
The fight will consist of parrying book titles back and forth, by matching the end of your opposing team's title with the start of your own. You can use or ignore articles at the start of the title. There must be an overlap of at least three letters.
The less overlap the better in terms of winning!
Planning
To start the fight each pair will be spun a title by the Arena Masters. The first team must find a book with a title that overlaps by at least three letters, and declare their planned strike to their opposition team, who must then plan their riposte. Each team will plan out a maximum of 10 strikes each this way.
Note: planning must be completed within the first week, and you must NOT start reading any book until the second, fight, week.
Fighting
Once the fight phase starts each team simply reads their planned books!
There's no requirement to read them in the correct order, but if at the end of the week you have missed a planned strike then you will lose the battle, regardless of how many of the rest of the books you complete.

Points and Winning
5 bonus points for each completed strike
The winning team in each pair will get a further 5 bonus points
The winning team will be either:
- the team to make the last completed strike, if not all 20 books (across both teams) are read; or
- the team with the SMALLEST number of overlap letters in their strikes, if all 20 books are read; or
- if there is a tie for number of overlap letters, a coin toss will be made by a neutral mod to decide the winner.

Timings
The first week in each of Round 2 and 3 shall be for planning your fight
The second week in each of Round 2 and 3 shall be for fighting your fight
In Round 2 Districts 1 - 7 will strike first
In Round 3 Districts 8 - The Capitol will strike first

To the best of my knowledge, we don't have any extra South America books. If we do, that hasn't been mentioned.

These books have been added to the Supply Drop page of your team spreadsheet! Links and all the proper stuff is on the spreadsheet. :)

I deleted the BOMs, but Clover Girls isn't on the spreadsheet.

I won't touch any else's books! MelanieJoy just mentioned previously that she was considering DNF'ing those 2.
