35559 So, we have to officially claim two spots as finished before you can start reading for the bonus.

Tell the captains (here and maybe also in the TAPIRS READ BOOK thread so it's less likely to get loss) which two books you want to put in officially. These are probably your first two books. Be nice and pick the hardest category they fit in -- if your book is "Under 150 pages" and stars a character who "Works in a non-profit" put it down for the non-profit!

The first person who finishes two books (Sheila) picks a new background color. On the team spreadsheet, color in those spots the new color. We can't change those. The rest will stay orange, with options on the side so people finishing can move things around to fit in their new books.

How's that? Your first two books will be "locked in" and submitted to the official spreadsheet so you can start the bonuses. The other books will hang out flexibly on the team spreadsheet and get moved around by you and other people until we have them all done.

This will make it easier for slower finishers -- if your second book is in my 5th spot, throw out my fifth book even if it doesn't fit anywhere else and put in your work and then you get access to the bonuses!

Do you like this idea? Too complicated?

If you hate using the spreadsheet or are on mobile, just tell us here what you want and someone will put it in for you.

35559 So, I made a grid of all the tasks, and a table off to the side where you can put in where else your book would fit. So if you start reading something but you can't find an empty square that fits, you can move things around if you want.

So I grabbed "Starts with T" for my book, but if you have another book that starts with T and you can't find anywhere else to put it, you can move me from that square and into 3-1 "Handsome Man on Cover". Does that work?

35559 Should I make a new spreadsheet page? Or should I wait for someone with better skillz?

35559 Well, you finished it for the one after Labors. If you are reading for Labors, you have to stop right before the end so you complete it :-)

This is perfect for those of us who like to start a lot of things. I think I officially have about 25 books on my currently-reading list.

35559 We could have put Shiver in for shark because it got sharked last time!

35559 Darn, Shiver got bumped out! Was someone close to finishing Silver Borne? Luckily it's not part of our pattern, though.

I'm sad because I got a parking ticket at book club. It's my own fault -- I parked under the parking sign, and it said something something midnight, so I felt safe because I'd be gone long before midnight. Turned out you can't park between 6pm and midnight!

I'm used to places making sure you don't park overnight, or for long during business hours. I guess there the residents made sure they could park when they got home from work. Clever, but because I wasn't expecting it I didn't see it. Guess I learned a lesson about reading the fine print on parking signs! Thanks for letting me vent.

35559 I wish Sallie would chime in to say if she thinks her book is acceptable there. I didn't see any other covers so I'm assuming the one with the bandana scarf thing is what she had. So I don't know, Sheila -- sorry! I want to use her book so we can save yours as that seems efficient.

Miranda, good idea -- you can even switch them, because The Poisoned House has 56 Horror tags. I'm sorry I couldn't figure a way to fit THE GIVER into this board.

35559 Miranda, I tried sticking your THE POISONED HOUSE in the pumpkin square because Pumpkin=Halloween=spooky ghost story.

What do you think? Does it fit?

35559 So I'm worried about the Shield/Sword guy square, because I messed it up. Do we have a finished book in there? Carmen, was it yours? Does anything else fit in? I'm thinking a book with a White Knight character would work there.

35559 Snowfire is also written by a dead person!

That is an uh, amazing scarf.

35559 Erin ☕ *Proud Book Hoarder* wrote: "If you accidentally mess up in the spreadsheet, do you know about the "undo" button? You can press that to undo mistakes, even if you have to press it a few times to undo a few actions.

I tried that but I think I had accidentally tapped the square before I started coloring in Lucky 7 and then I just couldn't get it back. Or I did something else screwy. Because it undid to gibberish and then laughed at me.

35559 Other squares we could use the travel agent on:

NIGHT: Hot Holiday Nights -- 139 pp

2006: Lies of Locke Lamora -- 531 pp

35559 Speaking of the Travel Agent Books, they have the BLUE COVER copy of OUTLANDER, which happens to be 896 pages. Sheila, maybe we could slip that one in, and then have your scarf book in reserve.

35559 Or Pumpkins mean "keeping your wife safe" as in Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater. Any of the thrillers we've read about someone protecting their wife from harm?

The rest of the squares don't give much room for interpretation. The pepper square I was going to finish my book club book for could be a book with a lot of Chinese/American Indian characters, especially in a western (red & yellow) or about a snake (red & yellow kill a fellow). I'd much rather use a banked book because I hate to waste those!

35559 That works, although if we use Sallie's book she has no unused books left. That makes me feel tidy.

I messed up (what a surprise!) while stuffing people's books into squares, and I think I erased the reader of DEAD RADIANCE. Oops. Is it finished?

I was wondering if Miranda's The SAFEST LIES would fit there, as the guy seems to be operating as Knight in Armor and rescuing the girl all the time.

Did anyone's books take place in the fall? Pumpkins mean autumn. They also mean Halloween=scary= Sheila's MIDNIGHT FEAR. Maybe? (definitely inside BINGO timeframe)

35559 Several of the already read books work for books marked in progress. If we use the already read books for 2 word title and probably want, and Carmen is willing to hold the last chapter until Sunday, we'll have possibles for the next challenge without losing points now.
